I just got my first longboard today and I decided to take my dog for a walk, so I took it with me to try it out. I thought since my dog is a very muscular pit bull he could pull me. He caught on right away! It was so much fun!
@@alextravis183 why is that? I've been wanting to try something fun to walk you dog with which 1 would be more fun longboard or skateboard? And which 1 would be better for a beginner?
@@darrienlight6124 he's saying that because you should know how to longboat or skateboard before you try and bring your dog with you for safety reasons. And I'd say a longboat personally, but it depends on what you're comfortable with
Well the more you walk your dog to scertain places they start remembering the way back home or to any other place you go all the time✨ thats what my dogs do 💜
Ive been doing this with my last 2 Jack Russells and they both just knew how to go. The first one passed away of old age a few years ago but super fit. The new rescue is just as good. I do kick and push with her because she is only 20 pounds. Also I put longboard wheels on my regular skateboard which helps. Its easier for me to manuever a shorter skateboard vs a longboard. We average 19 mph
It’s all about having an on/off command. To be able to tell her when to pull as well as when not to. To help with this I only use a harness while riding or in the car and I only use a regular slip lead on walks so she can feel the difference. She can tell it’s nice when she pulls on a ride and not so nice when she pulls on the walk simply due to the difference in how the lead is connected to her.
Been skateboarding mine for some years in Houston. Lasers work just got to have some leash control absorbing the pull with your arm,and be careful of letting them slip paws. Wait till your already going pretty good to turn it on. Mine go bezerk on a laser. Then moved to flashlight which they are tamer with but I can direct them easily through sidewalks streets little bit of traffic etc with the flashlight. I love night time throw some lights on the dogs concrete and sidewalks are clear and not too hot. I'd die in houston with those little wheels and my Masked Minions pulling me ...especially at night.
my lil pup opal tugs me all the time, I thought I might as well get a free lift from it! wish I had seen this video earlier today, we tried it for the first time and I think she's got the concept. she is not a sledding breed, she is a lab cattle dog mix, but she got us to around 12 miles dont worry though I gave her some breaks in between and helped her out here and there, especially around inclines. I can't expect one pup to pull my fat ass up a hill!
Awsome thx bro your underrated and deserve better so hopefully somebody sees this who has a lot of friends and share do you will become famous sorry I cannot share this with anybody I don’t really have friends
Hey man you can do some food desensitization with the board and sounds etc so the sound = Positive Been sk8ing with my boy for 8 years and worked with a lot of dogs skating. So much fun. Great Video
My dog is super timid/scared (he’s a 3yr old rescue who was abused but once he’s comfortable, he’s a complete goofball) of things, especially if they’re big and makes a lot of noise. Do you have any tips on getting him comfortable around the board first?
I'd recommend anyone who is walking their dog on pavement to invest into dog shoes. On hot days the pavement can start hurting their paw pads. Happened to my good boi and we walked only like 2 blocks
I recently got my longboard and I decided to take him out with it for my first time even riding a long board! He’s a very active german shepherd and I thought he would make me eat shit but he did very well :D. Only thing he had to get used to was not stopping so suddenly in front of me so he doesn’t get hit from behind but after at least 3 runs he knew that and always stayed off to the side
hey what's up? I just adopted a 5 month old Shepsky and I noticed you use the one tigris harness on Sky. Kemba is roughly the same size, I was wondering what size harness you bought for Sky so I can buy the same size for Kemba?
Is she a husky doberman mix? Looks just like my baby Aurora. She just pulled me on my longboard for her first time and was a natural! She responded to ”mush” like shed heard it her whole life!
For the health of your dog you should change the harness to a special pulling harness with extra low pulling point. When you use the standard harness for dog walking the dog gets a berry round back and very high pressures on back and hips. This becomes especially important as you’re standing very high on a board. Try it!! Your dog will thank you with a long lasting health and good performance !!!
im training my dog but the last time he jumped in front of me and i had to jump off my board and i pulled a groin muscle and i couldnt even walk for a few days. but we are about ready to try again.there is a big smooth parking lot near here im going to go in the middle of the night maybe he will do better.if he can fetch things from the bottom of the pool he can do this
I have a question: I would love to try this with our puppy but, for me just starting out as well I'm not use to going on rollerblades THAT fast, Is there a way to keep our puppy to do a trot/jog (I don't know what it's called for dogs) type of speed?
drive the dog like the guys on stage coaches, yell at them kiyaaa and woooee the same way you train them to walk with you im that kind of crazy you dont have to get carried away like i do ;) yeah crazy sums it up.
YES 100% my parents came outside to see me do this and he saw my parents and ran full throttle, I almost fell and couldn’t let go of my dog, so I jumped off the board and used my heels to stop him
I agree. Plus if they run around the other side of a light pole or mailbox you can release them so they dont get yanked. Its rare because I control the path since my dog is so light but Ive skateboard ran my friend's pitbull and the dog had so much torque that there is no shifting her path from where she wants to go. Very strong dog lol. Anyway yall stay safe out there. Ive avoided a lot of inattentive drivers and obstacles but the dogs happiness and excitement is worth it.
it will keep their nails trim.just like anything else even if they are willing dont let them get sore .you know what i mean.dont take an older dog on a ten mile hike and expect them to be ok
hi. i wanna ask a couple of questions more! how old is ur dog when filming this video? and how did you teach her to be kinda motivated to pull you continously!
Husky’s are bred to pull and working dogs love nothing more than completing the task they were bred for. It’s hard wired in their brains similar to the way you can teach positive association by giving treats when something happens except built in.
I taught my dog to do this a couple months ago, but what do you do if your dog goes too fast and you need to stop, we almost hit a big truck the other day because she was going too fast for us to stop and the only way to stop was to jump off and crash. what do I do? It's a lot harder for me to stop on a longboard but that's all I have.

Aaron Lolos What is the temp when you are running? Under 55f is best. I also find my dog pulls a lot more whenever we go to a trail we haven’t visited in a while. If you can have another dog ride with a friend or alongside your own that can help your dog feel more competitive and motivated as well.
