    I have owned a '88 Fiero Formula since the summer after I graduated ('96). 206,000 miles later the car still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. So fun!

    •  Місяць тому +1

      They only made the Formulas in '88, so you got a fairly rare Fiero. Hold on to that puppy. I think any 88 Fiero would be worth holding on to, to be honest.

    My dad had one of these in '89. Red with black wheels. Looked great! When I'd drive it on the weekends I'd tell all the girls it was a Porsche . . . and they believed me. I've always thought about buying one as a grown up. Probably missed the boat on that though.

    I’ve owned my 1987 Fiero 4 cylinder automatic for 35 years now. It looks even better now than when I purchased it. The car wasn’t meant to be a fast race car….I knew that when purchasing it from the dealership. What captured my heart was it’s look. This was a head turner back then and even more so today. It stands out as unique among everything on the road currently. This is a car to enjoy…moving along slowly or even just parked. It’s Art on wheels.

    Thank you for this great video, finally a intelligent review! I have a stock 87 GT. Just one thing I want to say: the fact that it only has 140 hp, but can put such a massive smile on your face is a testament to the car being one hell of a awesome sports car. I have owned my share of fast high HP sports cars, and still nothing is as big of a blast to drive as my 87 GT.

    Yeah, I do have one. It's a late run red, '86 GT with all the '87 up grades, like the wheels and Getrag 5-spd transmission, etc. It was in pristine stock shape, that I've only improved over the last 13+ years. I did a 3.4 swap, which made it so I could keep up and/or pass other traffic safely. Drove it that way for four years and did a 3800sc swap, which turned it into what I call my quasi super car, and it lives up to it. So, it was fun to drive when I bought it, a whole lot more fun with the 3.4, but now it's a blast to drive with 300+hp behind me, and very fast. I love my '86 Fiero GT more than ever. It's a rolling car show to the public and they love it too. Almost forgot, all the interior has been renewed and upgraded. I paid $3500 for it and put in $2500 more in upgrades. And for an investment of $6000, looks better and will out run most cars that cost four times that amount. I'd say, yes...it's a great investment.

    Pontiac had big plans with the 2nd gen Fiero. And the GM brass was afraid of that because they didn't wanted their golden boy the Corvette, which was double the price, embarrassed.
    On top of that Pontiac made the "mistake" to tun a V8 mule on the Corvette's test track and beat the Vette's record. Which sealed the Fiero's fate.

    • @Aleiza_49
      @Aleiza_49 2 місяці тому +1

      Even after the V8 mule, Pontiac also were also developing their own 4 valve turbo 3.9 V6 in collaboration with Porsche which also was placed in a running mule....236hp, and just like the V8 mule, it made the Vette of the time look like a joke. Once they caught wind of it, GM brass ordered Pontiac to cease the project.

    The 88 was also the first and only with electric power steering, so I’m not sure why this car doesn’t have it. Also the five speed didn’t come out until the 87 model. 😮 Yes, I do have one, an 86.5 with only 41K original mile and rear 5 speed for it’s time. I guess they ran out of 4 speeds when the built mine. 😊

Someone with a Fiero parked next to me and damn it it wasn't an inch or two lower (how did they do that?). Anyhow, I am delighted to say that I drove my 914 for 10 years as a daily driver and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. There were only two glitches the 914 had in my opinion and I cured them easily and had quite the reliable car. Needless to say the rust would eventually take over :(

    WRONG!
    Corvette people were whining about the threat of Fiero's second generation. They pressured GM to cut the Fiero program. So, GM had their bean counters to come up with some BS. Fiero did well in sales against MR2, in double and did better than Corvette's sales as well for ALL FIVE YEARS. You hear me??? ALL FIVE years. Even with marketing being cut for '88, Fiero did better. So, it wasn't MR2 or CRX, but corvette that ended the Fiero program. PERIOD!!!

    • @Aleiza_49
      @Aleiza_49 2 місяці тому

      GM top brass hated the original idea of Pontiac's vision for the Fiero as an actual thoroughbred sports car from the very start, they always protect the Vette...only it can be GM's sports car...even though Chevy was supposed to be the budget division and Pontiac at the time was intended to be the PERFORMANCE division of GM.
      GM threw everything in the way they possibly could to stop Pontiac's desire for the Fiero to be their revival as an actual performance branch. TBH, the consistent nerfing of the Fiero was the beginning of the death of Pontiac, imo.

    • @mr.2cents.846

      @@mr.2cents.846 YUP!!!! Pontiac also had one or two mules with a DOHC 2.9 turbo V6 (the Porsche Killer) they'd developed that was also superior to the Vette of the time. That power plant was intended to be the Fiero's (236 HP btw), but once upper GM found out about it they ordered Pontiac to cease development and destroy the engines.

      I have noticed a common characteristic of most of the FIERO owners meet, and it is not humility nor modesty. The reason the Pontiac competed with the Ford is it was just under a superior league which belonged to the competition between the CRX and MR 2. Great car though!
