I am currently here in Australia and we just put up our Christmas tree yesterday. Someone (Australian) came this morning to fix our window and was amazed to see the Christmas tree. 😂 We love to bring our tradition wherever we are so that somehow, we will not miss how it feels like to be home. 😊

The monsoon switch happens mostly in september. The monsoon that brings cold winds from the north going south west.
Hence the 'christmas breeze' starts in september

Well basically its because the spirit of christmas means a lot to us. Christmas Means love, giving, and family get together. You guys know there are lots of filipinos are working far from their family. And being able able to be with thier family in christmas. We wanted this atmosphere to last long. Thats why starting sept. We started to play christmass music its kinda gives us a lot of positive vibes and excitement. This is just my opinion maybe other filipino have diffirent opinions about what i say.

I think the best challenge for you guys and the most interesting to see is you attend a Simbang Gabi or Night Mass (it’s actually dawn). Even not really going inside the Catholic Church and hear the full 1 hour mass, but to just experience to wake up very early in the morning, prepare, and go to church area when the mass starts which is usually 4:30 AM to about 5:00AM. Depends on the church schedules, just check them out. Even more challenging is to complete the 9(?) consecutive Simbang Gabi which starts on December 16. Have fun if you do this. Merry Christmas.

Additional information/facts and deeper reasons why Filipinos' Christmas time starts in September. It is due to our Religious Solemnities and Feasts: September is the Birth Month of The Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8). I live in Cebu so Ill give you a Cebuano perspective. Cebu (Visayas, Philippines), most Religious people/families and communities celebrate Christmas from September to February (Feb.2 Feast of Presentation of known as Candelaria). The reason why most Cebuanos celebrate this long , its because in January we still have our Feast for Sto.Nino more known as Sinulog Festival.
Filipinos love Feasts but more so why we are very Festive its because of our devotion and Love for God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Angels and Saints.
Hope this adds to everyone's knowledge.
    Have a great day!

Merry X-mas! That's actually very true. spread of Christianity in the islands owe its success partly to our old pagan past, the acceptance of the new faith did not have much resistance because it was introduced in a more similar way to how our old faith was, like praying to saints could be like praying to "anitos" and so every town or city now has their own Saint they pray to and celebrate fiestas for. the coming of Amihan or the north wind is such an important event for us too, while it used to signal the end of the typhoon season, it now tells us Christmas is coming and that's the cold wind we feel this season. The sad thing is climate change, we used to feel Amihan by September but you can barely feel her now, not until November.

  • @xpeditepm
    @xpeditepm 4 роки тому

Filipino Christmas gradually picks up starting Sept, and ends way after New Year's day. Depending on which province you are from, it could be until Epiphany(1st Sunday of the year), Feast of the Black Nazarene (Jan 9), or Feast of the Santo Niño (3rd Sunday of the Jan; Sinulog if you're in Cebu). So, it is practically 5 months.

Aside from Jose Marie Chan's "christmas in our hearts", people here also sing and play the ABS-CBN Christmas station ID's from 2009-2019 a lot. Like A LOT. (2009's "star ng pasko" being the most popular/recognizable) You'll hear those songs playing everywhere. Children also sing them while carolling. It's like an annual thing for abs-cbn. Maybe you can react to all the station ID's starting with the one from 2009. 😁

I never bought into what the commercial establishments started around 30 years ago. It is a "capitalist marketing" strategy as sellers would want to pull in buyers into malls or stores by selling Christmas stocks early and having an excuse to play Christmas songs. August to September is somewhat a "dead month" for sellers. Ask anybody who are aged 50 plus. Ask the Church. But the culture caught on because "it feels good." The "Christmas in our Hearts" song by JM Chan was released in 1990.

  • @jingaustria

Maybe Christmas starting in September is true for others. For our family, decorations starts after November 1 (or 2). It’s like we need to get past All Saints/Souls Day first before going full blast with Christmas decorations. Businesses I think were the ones who pushed selling Christmas merch and items as early as September (just to go with the theme of -ber months).

I remember older people telling us that christmas is near when we feel this north wind blowing. In provinces, it is much colder, trees are swaying. Sad news is due to climate change, this cold north wind is not as much as colder when i was a kid. But still, it is colder compared to summer. Honestly speaking, i am expecting a lot this year, because of the pandemic, most of the workers in ncr will be working from home in their provinces, therefore the air will be colder due to reduction of air pollution caused by cars and vehicles. Hope you will experience the cold breeze this coming Christmas ☺️

I don't think most Filipinos do this because of the tradition/history. Maybe this is true for some people in some provinces & others could have othet interpretation. But for me what I know is that Filipinos just want to do this because of the joy ang happiness that Christmas brings. The Christmas lights. Decors. Christmas tree. Fake snow. Santa Claus & the reindeer. Cild breeze. Christmas carols, the presents, exchanging of gifts, Christmas party, the food. The Christmas ambience/atmosphere etc. And most importantly as a Christian nation is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We just want to experience the jolliest season as long as it gets. Who doesn't want that? 😊

As a kid I always found it weird that Christmas season begins in September, however I did like the opportunities to carol for Christmas money. I hope that practice is still around. It was a great deal of fun as a kid in Baguio singing house to house with friends with our guitars and bandurrias and making some money back in the 80's. Of course once in a while there would be the cheap skates and for that we would bust out that classic quick jingle; "Thank you, thank you, ang babarat ninyo thank you".

In angeles city, every christmas season, there are food stalls near the old museum in front of the big old church and open early in the morning until late evening for simbang gabi. Doesn't get any more christmas-y than that. not sure how it will go during the pandemic though.

In the context of "REBORN", Babies who are conceived in December are born in September of the following year. There's not a fact to back it up but it's cool to think about it whether it's just a mere coincidence or there are truths behind it. hahaha

This must be a new thing. I left the country 40 years ago and no one put up Christmas trees in November and no one celebrated Halloween. It is all a marketing trick.

I left back in 1990 and it started becoming a thing in Baguio I think around 89 or 88 it was the year after People Power, that I remember parols being hung up around the neighborhood that early. Made a killing caroling for months and thought having 500 pesos made me rich. I was around ten at the time.
