This is so random but I know nothing about Armaan Malik and didn’t even know about Echo (I am under a rock behind a waterfall Eric I’m sorry 😖), but listening to how Armaan explained and talked with Eric about things, I actually realized so much stuff about multilingual Kpop idols (The main group I had the OMG THATS WHY moment without was NCT). Hearing him talk about the “switch in his brain” and which ones to turn on and off is exactly how I assumed it worked, but hearing it for him it dawned on me “Oh my god that EXACTLY what Ten (NCT/WAYV) has going on! Where Ten is Thai and speaks 5 languages fluently, but only grew up with two or three, then learns the rest and is still learning bits and pieces of other languages, where he has trouble speaking the right language and is (lovingly) referred to as a Chaotic Multilingual Mess, and he gets asked all the time about what language he thinks in, and what language he speaks to to certain members or people, where every person and grouping is a different language or combination of languages that can be understood, and his phones language is English, and he seems to default to speaking English, but his native language is Thai, and he just doesn’t know what language he thinks in because there’s just too much (There’s a wonderful video that perfectly shows this, where he was playing a game with NCT with punishments and his Mission was to say 5 different hard younger twisters in 5 languages and him just struggles and screaming “waiT WAIT WAIT NOOOOO!!!!” A lot. It’s also very short clip and also pretty funny) Also, Armaan talking about being classically trained helped “Open his voice” for pop music made me think about something with SHINee’s Leader Onew, where all Shawols were stunned when a video of him LEGIT OPERA SINGING came out, and an ACTUAL TRAINED CLASSICAL SINGER said he was the best non classically trained opera singer they had ever heard, but if that’s something he can do with little or no training, it explains why he’s been such an amazing and talented singer since day one with their debut song Replay. I’d unbiasedly say he’s one of the Best singers in the Kpop industry, and he still has a career over 13 years later, and hearing Armaan talking was like, wow, He (Armaan) is incredible and I have a whole new way of seeing Ten, Yangyang, Yuta and Winwin (NCT/WAYV) and Onew (and literally everyone in SHINee. Really great observation and as a multilingual myself, I can highly relate to what Ten and Armaan explained. As an Indian however, I'd like to clarify what he meant by "Classical music". I'm positive Armaan hasn't learnt Opera or Classical music in the way non-Indians know it. Classical music in India usually refers to Carnatic/Hindustani music which are 2 genres home to India(could be wrong about origins). Indian Classical Music consists different styles of vocalisation and such which is what Armaan was referring to.
Well discussed on the multilingual part. Me being able to speak 3 languages pretty fluently with actual natives, even I get confused when I have to simultaneously speak in two or all of the three languages, like when I have to translate stuff. It gets real hard.
