I thought i would get a stream recording with low editing, based on length of this video, but i got an extremely interesting, motivatonal and overall great video, that probably deserves a series/anime (since half of the video took place in japan) to be based on it! The best youtube video i have watched in, probably months!
Beautiful video. I started my competitive journey this year only because of the guidance of your videos. I’ve watched every single video and stream you’ve posted since the release of Scarlet and Violet. It’s been great going through this journey with you and I can’t wait to see how you perform this year
Great Message!! I pray that everyone watches through to the end and hears the meaningful message you delivered. Failing sucks, but I think that giving up may be the only thing that could really make someone a failure.
Wolfe, don't feel bad about this performance. You perform best in what should have happened - a non-national dex format where you can find a unique and innovative strategy that you're comfortable with and know inside and out. The Pokémon Company switching the format on you right before Worlds is cruel and unfair. You did the best you could under the overwhelmingly stacked and stressful conditions and we're all super proud of you for putting an inhumane amount of effort and passion into this. ❤
Is it dumb for TPC to do the format switching like that? Yes. Does Wolfe underperforming under these conditions indicate a weakness of his? Also probably yes. Does that mean Wolfe is a bad player? Absolutely not.
@@DaFlyingSeal tbh i think it is a good change, it is a way to get the best pokemon player out and not just the best damage calculator and best wiki reader to worlds, we already have the school system to do that, and yes if it affect everyone then it is fair and it prevent the chalk teams like wolfey mentioned

i super loved this video. walking through each step of the journey, from the individual tournaments to your preparation to how you felt going into them was super cool. i also loved learning about the meta and how it has shifted throughout the season. awesome stuff
ahh i’m so excited it’s finally here! i had always seen your videos float around in my recommended but i didn’t start watching until january when my dad was stuck in the er and i needed something to pass those 12 long, stressful hours. thank you for that. i used to avoid competitive because it seemed too technical and confusing to know where to start but you do a great job explaining your process in a way that makes the knowledge approachable, and you’re also just a great storyteller in general. i’m still never gonna be a competitive player but i can say your videos have brought me great comfort, entertainment, and a better appreciation and conscious effort for battling hope you have an incredible 2024 filled with much success and world champ difference ❤
As someone who is a competitive card player (not Pokémon) who has been struggling with his own ambitions this video, and your message of not giving up even when your hard work feels like it counts for nothing, was just the inspiration I needed moving into this new year where I’m hitting the grind harder than ever before. Thank you man, keep up the great work and I look forward to following your journey to this years worlds!
I still am so crestfallen at what happened in nationals. That is my favorite pokemon team of all time and having it win and getting you to day 2 would have been the best thing ever. You're always gonna be the champion to me Wolfey, you're the most creative fun player ever
I haven't played Pokemon in years, but your videos are fun to watch so thank you for that. Even someone who has no clue how deep the game is and what current Pokemons are available still can follow the events happening.
Losing to Shiliang Tang who you essentially became 2023 rivals with is very poetic. A storyline loss, hopefully you two meet up for many more thrilling games in future tourneys
Very inspiring stuff man, especially for someone like me who hasn't played competitive pokemon since the XY games and is just getting back into it. The line "I'm not the best if I win with the meta, I'm the best if I win with my favorites!" was awesome to me cause i think the way you play with opting to use pokemon you like & enjoy but are still capable enough to compete with the meta is honestly my favorite and I love it.
That end speech was absolutely beautiful. I won't lie when I say I cried a bit watching that ending. The human experience is all about trial and failure and learning to pick yourself back up. Knowing the odds are so stacked against you in anything you do is a part of what fuels people to be passionate and to continue to innovate and push forward. It's exciting and it's beautiful.
I'm just one person but i gotta say i personally enjoy these types of tournament rundowns where you focus on the bigger picture much more than the ones that turn into play by play commentary of what moves each player/pokemon used on every turn. They just become too repetitive and end up sounding like you're just reading moves and names off of a list. Videos like this however, still have the occassional breakdown of crucial battles but without getting too bogged down by details, leaving more room for the overarcing story of your experience and journey but also of the thought process behind the team and how/why it was build, which also allows you to cap off every tournament with a post mortem on the team you used and how it performed vs your expectations, what it did well and not so well and lastly what you learned from it. Which makes for a much more engaging viewing and listening experience in my own personal opinion at least. So if you can do more tournament breakdowns like this, i'd love to watch them.
Your type of content combining immense knowledge experience and connections with the community you are making content about alongside well edited starts to a video to get people to understand exactly what's going on followed by long gameplay segments with good commentary for a long term engaging video is just amazing.
Fantastic content. Never imagined I would watch a 2 hour doc on your 2023 journey but it was worth it. I've never been more satisfied from watching something I was unable to properly comprehend. Subbed.
Wolfe is one of the biggest influences that led me not only to competitive Pokémon but also to starting video editing for UA-cam and for fun. Thanks for all this amazing content. I hope to see even more as this new year begins. As saddening as it is that you didn’t win worlds, this journey looks like a lot of fun and definitely a journey I’d love to go through as well
This is one of the best produced videos I have watched in such a long amount of time. I found myself at the edge of my seat even if I knew the outcomes of a lot of the tournaments. The story told throughout was incredibly well-paced and scripted and I never felt there was a dull moment. I also feel that I learned a lot of what I missed of VGC throughout the year and I thoroughly enjoyed that. The ending was very motivational, heartfelt and wholesome. Rooting for you to become the world champ come Worlds 2024
I don't think a single comment I can make will properly put into words how much this video inspired and moved me. Not just for competitive Pokemon, but for everything I strive for. This might genuinely be my favorite Pokemon related video on the entire site. Thank you.
The difficulty I had trying to watch this video in a small timeframe was about as hard as catching a fish in a frozen lake with a bucket full of gummy worms. Worth it tho
You're team is getting better and better at making these types of videos. Do some research on how movies play out where the audience could or does know the ending but it's still a surprise anyway. That's the perfect structure for these
I have so much respect for Wolfey he went in the tournament trying his best lost and is still going back this year. He is a real life ash Ketchum also for those that didn’t know when he attempted the nuzlocke challenge for emerald he found a female feebas on the first try talk about insanely lucky!!!!
Hey Wolfe, you may not see this comment, but these videos have inspired me to give VGC a shot. I've only dabbled in singles as of now, but your creativity in teambuilding really made me want to give doubles a shot, not to mention your triumphs against unfair disadvantages this year with all the leaks. I know VGC is a HUGE time commitment, and being an engineering student won't help, but I still want to give it a shot because you've made it look so fun! So I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks!

i dont know why but I watched your journey to win the world championship two or three years in a row now, I don't even own a switch and haven't played Pokémon since I was a kid playing Pokémon Ruby on the Gameboy Advance. I guess I love your dedication and your story telling, I hope you win it sometime In the future, I'm looking forward to your next year adventure! Best of luck!
The speach at the end really hit home thank you for that and for all the lessons shared throughout the video you're awesome Wolfey excited for what next years holds!
Getting to the end of the video I felt so sad that you couldn't make it to Day 2 of the World Championships but that speech at the end is the true World Champ Difference, it's that mindset that makes watching and following your journey all the better!
I know very little of pokemon and it took me until halfway in this video to realize that you were only sending 4 of your 6 pokemon into battle each time haha. But I still watched the whole thing and im super impressed by the dedication, strategy and attention to detail that goes into this sport!
I’ll be honest seeing Wolfey’s underdog approach to team building is a joy to see. Almost every other channel I go to for feedback on Pokemon or strategies will typically write anything off that hasn’t been used competitively and even if it has been seen competitively it still gets written off if it didn’t see massive success. These videos are really inspiring and motivational for someone like myself who enjoys being the underdog and also believes in the art of experimentation and creating the advantage of the unknown
I love the sentiment in the outro. Falling short hurts *because* the goal is truly worth something. The number of times I've heard 'if it causes you pain, why do you keep doing it?' with regards to my own endeavours makes me sad sometimes, that others never find something that lights a fire in them that makes the disappointments worth it. Thank you for articulating this so well, best of luck next year, and I hope some day I can find something that calls to me again, like you have had with Pokémon all those years.
Yes, your Gholdengo intro is exactly why I love your longer breakdown videos! They are always worth watching every second as you throw in tons of memes and Easter eggs for long time players. Still watching and I can say, the wait for this video was 100% worth it!

This incredible video shows the hard work it takes to become to world champion. Many people aren't even aware of competitive pokemon, which saddens me after seeing the true hard work needed to become the world champion. This video was super informative and easy to follow. I watched this whole video straight and just couldn't stop! The ending of this video was super emotional, it was the perfect ending for a perfect video!
This is the PERFECT video for the end of the year. Not just a recap of Worlds, but of the entirety of competitive Scarlet & Violet. Fantastic storytelling all the way through.
Amazing video, and I don't even care about pokemon games; but it bring me a lot of memories form when I used to compete in different games at the highest lvl and though your experience I re-lived all the feelings from the crushing defeats to the glorious of the victories. Thanks
God damn Wolfey. I've been watching you for years now and seeing you grow as a content creator has been awesome. I started watching because you were a nerdy guy that really knew his stuff, now you're a nerdy guy who really knows his stuff that also produces professional-grade videos.
I think that the regulation plan should be communicated fairly early (like at the beginning of the season) so that people could prepare for world's. Training Pokémon eves is a drag and thus not many do it themselves. Outsourcing leads to people cheating because they were unaware of the illegal training. I think Pokémon vgc would be more beginner friendly if you know what to expect or don't need to bring your own Pokémon.

As someone who only uses my favorite Pokemon I love your unique and creative teams. Truly the world champ difference.
I wish you good luck for your next tournaments and everyone a happy new year ♥
Thank you!
woah
Love this
I only respect pokemon players who only use their favorites. Which is like no one
@@guesswho6941my favorite Pokémon is Zacian 🙂
I thought i would get a stream recording with low editing, based on length of this video, but i got an extremely interesting, motivatonal and overall great video, that probably deserves a series/anime (since half of the video took place in japan) to be based on it! The best youtube video i have watched in, probably months!
14:40 Wow that's incredible video making. The moment where you're like "This is literally the worst thing that could happen", that was SOO GOOD!
Beautiful video. I started my competitive journey this year only because of the guidance of your videos. I’ve watched every single video and stream you’ve posted since the release of Scarlet and Violet. It’s been great going through this journey with you and I can’t wait to see how you perform this year
Holy shit it's finally here

My dude, I watched all your tournament breakdowns and yet your style of narration stil got me in suspense and my heart pounding, just incredible.
Yeah same I totally agree!
12:10 that was genius. “I need… a hero!” And then “Battle Against a True Hero” from Undertale starts playing.
Perfection.
Great Message!! I pray that everyone watches through to the end and hears the meaningful message you delivered. Failing sucks, but I think that giving up may be the only thing that could really make someone a failure.
It’s so crazy how good wolf is at writing scripts. He managed to make a 90 min video and keep it entertaining and funny throughout the hole time.

Iron Mugulis has officially entered the wolfyverse! This is insane
The beast had transcended into another universe...
Can it be stopped?
Folks...
We're gaming
Absolutely not.
but the format switch also affected everyone?
@@BuxxoTrue, but considering the type of teams Wolfe likes to build and has specialty in it comes off as a real slap to the face.
@@BuxxoThank you, I like Wolfey but I think this is protagonist bias. Everyone faced the same problem. He still should be proud, but by no means was he cheated
Great video! Almost feels like the MCU with the video covering all the previous videos i already watched without knowing their context (and some new ones i watch as the video progresses).
The production quality on this is actually inspiring, I genuinely couldn’t look away for even a second
This really does sound like a storyline within Pokémon media
Wolfey, your content was been an absolute blast to watch this year, happy new years
I see why this video took so long. the effort put into this video is insane incredible editing throughout the video
Wolfeys inability to pronounce iron jugulis cracked me up so hard, amazing video
It's actually an intentional nod to another Pokemon UA-camr 😅
we all love orange julius
@@LongboardguyyIron Mugulis at the very least was a reference
i super loved this video. walking through each step of the journey, from the individual tournaments to your preparation to how you felt going into them was super cool. i also loved learning about the meta and how it has shifted throughout the season. awesome stuff
I am very new to competitive pokemon and your channel, but rarely have I ever been this invested in a video this long. Amazing job!
Wolfey entering Worlds with some fish is truly the world champ difference
ahh i’m so excited it’s finally here! i had always seen your videos float around in my recommended but i didn’t start watching until january when my dad was stuck in the er and i needed something to pass those 12 long, stressful hours. thank you for that. i used to avoid competitive because it seemed too technical and confusing to know where to start but you do a great job explaining your process in a way that makes the knowledge approachable, and you’re also just a great storyteller in general. i’m still never gonna be a competitive player but i can say your videos have brought me great comfort, entertainment, and a better appreciation and conscious effort for battling
hope you have an incredible 2024 filled with much success and world champ difference ❤
1. Great storytelling throughout the video!
2. The positive support for your opponents and friends was excellent. Very appreciated.
The last line is so epic and inspiring. I'm so proud of being your fan Wolfey. Best of luck for 2024.
Never ever have I seen this game
Watched the whole thing start to finish
Looking forward to your 2024 journey! Good luck!
2 hours of pure quality, I still can't believe how much your content has improved in the last year alone.
As saddening as it is that you didn’t win worlds, this journey looks like a lot of fun and definitely a journey I’d love to go through as well
The story telling is insane and the editor did a tremendous work.
I was at locals during worlds, I remember everyone going nuts over the DQs.
Hopefully it's better next year
This is one of the best produced videos I have watched in such a long amount of time.
I'm starting to think that VGC is driving Wolfey a bit crazy....
He was already there, VGC just gives that insanity a platform.
@@lyndsaybrown8471fr
Only Wolfey can make me sit and watch for 2 hours, its a real talent
;*
I watched the whole thing and I was like "I can't believe 2 hrs went by" I nearly clapped at the end too, amazing journey retelling.
Even when he doesn’t make day 2 of worlds he still manages to show us his world champ difference
To start you can even use rental teams, just to understand the format using a certified performing team. That saves also a lot of time
It's only a huge time investment for pro's. For regular people like us it's just a hobby you can put as much or as little time into as you want.
@@michielmanders9766eh depends if he's playing showdown or in game, and whether or not he's using genned mons. Team building is fun and easy until you're out of mochi or bottle caps.
I’m wishing you luck on your adventure friend :) Just just don’t forget they guy that wished you luck once you become a champion haha
@@turtle_7777 But it doesn't? You can fill in a rental code in game, takes a grand total of 20 seconds. Probably even recommended for new players.
The thumbnail makes it seem like im on a interview and wolfy is about to congratulate me for landing the job
Wolfey is Rika
I had to go back and look at the thumbnail after you said that. And your rite lol…. I hate interviews. Im fact when someone that is interviewing me asks “ what’s something about you that you think is a weakness?” I always say being interviewed haha
i dont know why but I watched your journey to win the world championship two or three years in a row now, I don't even own a switch and haven't played Pokémon since I was a kid playing Pokémon Ruby on the Gameboy Advance. I guess I love your dedication and your story telling, I hope you win it sometime In the future, I'm looking forward to your next year adventure!
Best of luck!
wow. this video was so well crafted. It's easy to tell you are so passionate about this craft. Congrats on 1 mil!
The speach at the end really hit home thank you for that and for all the lessons shared throughout the video you're awesome Wolfey excited for what next years holds!
Really humble of wolfy to play worse so other players had a chance. That's why he has the world champ difference
Getting to the end of the video I felt so sad that you couldn't make it to Day 2 of the World Championships but that speech at the end is the true World Champ Difference, it's that mindset that makes watching and following your journey all the better!
Love that moment at the end of the Orlando finals match.
"Handshake?" - "Nah." - "Nah." _Big ol' hug_
Thanks for sharing the journey, Wolfe! What an incredible ride, and I can't wait to see you try again this year. :) Whether you fail or succeed, you have my support.
The heart and the grit behing this one... Thank you Wolfe, from somebody having this dream that you've already felt coming true but keep chasing nevertheless (I'll have my debut in Sweden in May but seriously compete in 2024/25).
Long Live Beastcoast!
You really ARE the very best 💛
your story telling was so good in this video, unironically felt like a movie about competitive, one of if not your best video yet wolfie, cant wait for 2024!
Imagine losing to perish trap 2 times, both in the finals of a tournament and to the same person 😂
At least you know it's to a respectable opponent. The strategy is hard and getting to the finals is extremely hard.
Thanks for the words and looking forward to a rematch with you, Wolfey !!
Hello there and congratulations for making to Japan!
Did not expect to watch a 2 hour pokemon documentary when i loaded up youtube but god damn was it good. Congrats to everyone envolved. Liked, subscribed and commented for first time in a long time
What an amazing journey! I really enjoyed seeing the theory crafting/brainstorming behind the teams
Love the message at the end of not being afraid to fail
This incredible video shows the hard work it takes to become to world champion. Many people aren't even aware of competitive pokemon, which saddens me after seeing the true hard work needed to become the world champion. This video was super informative and easy to follow. I watched this whole video straight and just couldn't stop! The ending of this video was super emotional, it was the perfect ending for a perfect video!
Well narrated. You are a world champ of a person and UA-camr. Keep chasing your dreams king.
I think Pokémon vgc would be more beginner friendly if you know what to expect or don't need to bring your own Pokémon.
that’s the challenge finding time and doing the grind. It’s a process
Un no the challenge should be actually doing the battles not in making the teams.
@@savyon122 If wasting hours mindlessly grinding for stats can even be considered a "challenge", that must be one of the stupidest challenges of all time.
Damn Wolfey hitting us in the feels at the end 🥺 you are such an inspiration and I am inspired to strive harder for loftier goals going into 2024. Thank you for all your hard work and happy new year!!
I agree the ending of this video was the best!
as someone who's been trying for years and finally reached masterball rank this season the outro almost had me in tears. what incredible content! you can tell he told this story from the heart.
Congrats! I also reached master ball for the first time recently, it's a huge accomplishment. Not as great as winning the world championship I suppose, but good enough for me!
what platform is the ratings on?
I've been watching a lot of Wolfey's content and it really is giving me the inspiration to get into competitive battling.
I really like how he thinks so creatively about pokemon and team building.
I look to emulate that mindset and work ethic.
What a way to close out the video! Love the optimism and message you are pushing! Keep it up 👍🏼
