Great work you your boy are doing. You don't always need to replace, or machine, something since it was taken apart. I have a 2001 Sliverado 2500 HD 6.0L equipped. That engine hydrolocked, bent a rod. I replaced that one rod with a used one. Reused the bearings, pistons, rings. It did get a diggle ball quickie. Three yrs 30 thousand miles later still doing work, and not using oil!

I ran that motor 2 more years until I wrecked the truck. The keyboard warriors will swear up down that it won’t run a month but it did and it ran fine.

Once again excellent bodgy work, yes it can and will work. I haven't had to go big on a rebuild of this magnitude but did have to literally THROW a cylinder head on a van 2 days before Christmas just so I could get to a far flung job. My mechanic was horrified but honestly I am a little bit proud of the fact that a bodge job lasted another 8 months. Truck certainly wasn't worth a rebuilt head let alone whole motor, and it wasn't the cost but the fact shops were closed for a few days and parts probably not available till silly season ended. Certainly no harm in temporarily permanent repairs

Living on the farms and working on old farm trucks, cars, and tractors you really get to see how creative the old timers got. I don't see it as "oh they did it the wrong way!! They had to do it like this!!! They should've used the proper stuff!!" I see it as inspiration, think outside the box more, if a strip of tractor belting held together with hog rings works as a V belt then how can it possibly be the wrong way to do it?

You are exactly correct on doing what it takes to get her on the road when funds are tight or nonexistent. Many times I swapped out parts from other engines to get one going so I had something to drive. Luckily for me my dad had a lot of spare parts. mini boneyard. Even did the forbidden used cam swap with with used lifters from numerous engines. The mystery 5 gallon bucket full of pushrods and lifters! My Dad was just a rings and bearings rebuilder.. and my bearings didn't last long at all due to excessivly worn crank, and only removed the bore ridge at the time and i don't even recall honing it so blow by was IMPRESSIVE lol. if i knew what i know now, i'd have probably gone to wreckers and pulled some heads off for a second hand short motor.. but might have been cheap to grind the crank and bore the block at that time also. live and learn, just like you are teaching JD and your followers. In a pinch, my Dad would put an engine together out of whatever he had on hand and run it. I'd go to school smelling like kerosene from cleaning parts. Brains and creativity beats Money every time. I like blade hones better though. That might just be because that's what Dad always used so that's what I use. He's getting greasy. The rest will come in time. It'll run.

I'm a Ford guy but I like ALL of the older American makes. Have owned a couple Chevy trucks, a '67 long bed and a '71 short bed step side, a '79 Buick Regal and a '74 Plymouth Satellite. I took my drivers license test in a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass S. In fact I've been looking around for another but holee cow the prices have gotten out of hand! But I digress... Love your channel and your humor. Your boy is awesome. You're bringing him up right. Take care.--Bruce

JC Whitney!!! Loved that catalog! This reminds me of working on a 62 300H with my dad great memories of rebuilding that wedge with him twice! We totally hosed torque specs and the engine came undone. Everything but the paint was done! Happy to watch you and your boy build this cool A$$ car budget style!
I pray you and your son can do more cool projects together. Thank you for your content!

not only are your videos full of excellent advice (or, as you usually put it, the right way to do things wrong), but they are entertaining as well even when not trying to (I didn't expect the valve springs musical number, it really cracked me up) ;-) muy bueno ... JD is at an excellent car guy school with you

Its pretty bad when a child(JD at the time) knows more about engines than MOST mechanics. Great job man, keep learning and maybe, MAYBE 1 day u will be smarter than ur dad.

JD and Dalton are doing the heavy lifting with that motor, but Jess has a vested interest too. She is responsible for all those clean clothes you guys bring out and cover in oil and grease.👍

I love 💕 it when the Pole Barn Boss treats his son like a real employee that's on the job. Especially when he inserts the comment, "we're going to lose the shop". This is so entertaining and funny 🤣. Anyway, thanks for the video 📸.

You have a GREAT attitude towards the notion these last 2 generations have that think everything needs to be perfect while at the same time going broke (or putting yourself in terminal debt) making it that way. Same way in the bike biz.....just sand it down, spray some Krylon on it and go for it....

What size is it it's a part to his rundown rod that is what I call it when the engine is not in super good shape usually Ford doesn't do anything that is any good unless they stole it from another company

Ford innovated a lot of things and had some superior attributes. Fe engines are dogs, but they hold up. And you can get massive cubes out of them with very little extra work. I don't like Ford's as a rule, but you have to be objective about it, otherwise you just sound stupid

    • @ericborgen7311
      @ericborgen7311 2 роки тому +1

They do have some good engine's but they love to say how great they are and have gotten big head's and that is not a good thing because you need to actually go over your stuff that you create and see if you need to improve on it and Ford doesn't do that that is the biggest problem

You said "That's some good Ford engineering there." (edit: about the fan not the bell housing haha) Please don't make me spit out my coffee like that again, haha (I'm just playing but I'm a GM guy as if that really matters, but at least Chevy doesn't put a 3rd bolt on everything that you need to buy a special tool for to get off - or destroy one of my old tools to do)

You're giving that young man the best education money can't buy Dalton. You really don't need to explain yourself to the keyboard warriors out here. I'll be a dollar to a whatever that saying is that anybody who bitches at you about teaching JD the wrong way has never touched a crankshaft in their life no less know what a 040 over bore is or an undersized bearing for a connecting rod journal. So yeah

Its awesome that you are teaching your son to work on cars. He is going to love having a vehicle that he helped build.
I grew up working around demolition cars with my dad and uncle. My first car was a 69 camaro which I helped build and paint. My dad and uncle have both passed but I will never forget the experience. Great job dad!

Ford did the same thing with the Cologne V6’s 2.6 and the 2.8. Granted not the pushrods but the valve covers bolt to the intake
