Beautiful song Alec! Thanks!
Thanks Axel!! :D
very fine song - waiting for your album
Thanks! :)
friend. these songs are becoming my favorites.
Thank you so much Daniel! :)
A new Alec Brits video! Today is a good day! :D
Thanks Ben! :D
Love your voice, such a great singer. Thanks for an excellent review.
Thank you Victor! :)
Dang, I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I thought it was a strange move by API to do a tube preamp, but this review has peaked my interest.
It’s a bit of a beast isn’t it? :) the folks at API clearly have some serious knowledge in the tube department. 👌🏽
I am not hear for the gear, rather your music. Wow !!! you are really talented.
Thank you so much for the kind words Jasper. :)
Alec - I'm so glad I found your channel. You are, without any doubt THE BEST dude ever in UA-camMusicTutorialWorld - fantastic advice, no ego, a few bits of quirky video editing stuff... and now, I find out, THE MOST AMAZING musician / song-writer.... the song on this video, is GORGEOUS - beautiful chord changes, great playing, and vocals delivered with passion and grace. Can I buy it on CD please? (I don't do downloads!) - Kindest regards, Richard
Thanks so much for the extremely kind words! :) when and if cd’s become available, I’ll let you know!
Had no idea API were making a classic API pre with tubes. So rad! Sounds beautiful! Excellent vid as always, Alec
It’s good stuff!! :) thanks Bob!
Nice one! Great to see these hardware reviews! Thank you for your work 🙏
Thank you! :D
Great song and great mix!
Thanks Brian! :D
Nice work Alec
Thanks so much! :D
Sound great as always
Thanks Toy! :)
Beautiful song❤
Thanks so much Kevin! :)
Loving this song
Thank you so much. :)
Awesome review as allways! If its possible, can you make a video explaining how to mic and record a vertical piano, please?
Thanks!
Thank you Pedro!
Sure thing, that would be a great tutorial to film. :)
@@alecbrits cant wait to see it! Thanks Alex!
Another great review!! Presentation was stellar, I want to go out and buy one of these now.
It’s a wicked piece! :) if you do buy it, enjoy it!
Happy Sunday! Thanks for another heartfelt tearjerker. Hope you're healing up. Oh, right the API sounds pretty good.
Somehow not as "there" as some prior pieces, or something, I dunno.
Happy Sunday Mashaz! :)
Thanks for the kind words.
I really love the way it sounds, I think I prefer it over the Manley, due to the fact that it’s a little more forgiving on things with a hefty dynamic range. With a couple modifications to the output fader, it would get daily use here for sure. :)
Omg! I was searching something different really! But when you start sining ohh bro! FANTASTIC! SUBSCRIBED! i DO REALLY LIKE THE DARK SENSATION !
Hahaha! :) thank you!
Thanks for this demo, I was interested in this but, wont buy it now. You did a great job exposing the shortcomings of this unit. Am a long time API user/owner of many of their models. Hopefully they will address the issues in the near future.
Thanks for the feedback! :) it’s a great unit for sure, just needs a few tweaks for it to be spot on.
I fell in love with your song and your great talent , keep the fire burning + you won a new subscriber , wl Jerryl
Thank you so much Jerryl! :) new content coming soon.
01:47 Heck Yeah Bro, Sounds great man!!!👍🏾🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much!! :D
Love the tunes man. Nice review.
Thank you so much! :) will keep working on them!
Great Channel. *Subscribed*
Thanks Danny! :)
I bought the Api Select T-25. Now i can compare my vocal or bass to someone who uses a Teletronix La 2a, I know it’s not the same. It shows how satisfying it is to hear the T-25. Please check it out for review.
I’ll see what I can do James. Congrats on your purchase. :)
I'm surprised these aren't selling more they seem really really good
I’m a big fan. :)
Since, in the similar price range and Tubes, could you review Tegeler Audio's gear? VTRC Recording Channel/Pultec Clone PEQ-1/Schwertzkraftmachine Compressor, thanks Alec, yours are some of the best reviews on gear in YT. Thank you for your time and efforts in making them and to Studiocare for supplying the gear!
Thanks for the kind words Sai. :)
Unfortunately, I cannot currently review Tegeler gear, but I’d love to in the future.
YOU ARE THE BEST BRO
Thank you so much! :D
Another incredible review Alec! Your Shelford video pushed me over the top on purchasing it btw! I'm curious though after using it for almost 2 weeks if I wouldn't prefer the API Channel strip instead though. They just seem to sound more to my flavor. Have you had the opportunity to use the API Channel Strip with the 512, 527, and the 550A? I'm tossing the trade in my head lol.
Thanks Jeremy! :) I have not used the full strip, but I love the API pre’s and the 550a EQ. If you have the chance to get one in to demo, I would highly recommend it. It’s hard to know what each persons preferences are, but I would feel like the two channels would compliment each other well. :)
some john mayer vibes here ! good job
Thank you!! :D
Awesome as always cheers!
Thanks Lain! :)
Nice tune 👍🏾
🎶
Thank you so much! :D
I'm just here for the tunes.
Thanks Hermiel, I’ll keep working on it! :)
dope video fam who did the beat at the end of the video hard❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Thank you! :) that was me! I really enjoying making beats and loops.
@@alecbrits do you got a beat site definitely would like to use that joint
Good Job
Thanks Zio! :)
Manley Force Vs API Select T12? Thoughts?
Very good question, and one that I have been thinking about a lot. The API would be the better fit for me personally. The Tone of the Manley is every bit as good, but the API is more forgiving on wide dynamic sources. When something goes near clipping on the Manley, the unit does not saturate in a smooth fashion, I think that is because the output circuitry on the manky is not transformer/tube balanced, but rather electronically balanced. The API breaks up really smoothly and allows for really dynamic performance without having to reach for the gains constantly during a take. :) those or my personal thoughts on it though, I’m sure there will be a lot of people who would say something different.
@@alecbrits Interesting explanation! To be honest, i compared both of them through your videos and really liked how the API sounds. It holds the sounds really well and helps them stand out in a musical way. The Manley sounds great too, but not really as versatile as the API unit. Thanks for the demos! Keep them coming.
Holy smokes idk if it was mostly the mic and why it sounded so clean and smooth but dam 🔥 would you recommend this pre for hip hop is it transformer based thanks great quality 🔥
It’s a great mic pre for sure. I would recommend trying it out and seeing if it fits with what you are looking for in your workflow. It has transformers on the input and a couple tubes per channel. Great open and forgiving tone.
Great song as always mate! Is your 414EB a brass capsule or nilon one? No HPF engaged on the mic itself?
Thanks! :) it is a brass capsule one indeed!
The mic was flat, the HPF was on the mic pre itself. It’s a good sounding HPF for sure. 👌🏽
@@alecbrits Ok thanks for the infos!
Impressive how "finished" it sounds with no EQ. You must spend a good amount of time choosing mics.
It’s a great sounding unit! :) the right mics really do help to get the unit to really sing and make a song feel more cohesive.
I'm very surprised this is still the only real review on this unit after 8 months, huge bummer that the output doesn't attenuate enough to drive it hard, probably going to have to pass on it because of this
Yeah, it’s a small thing that would have been awesome if it was included. :)
I keep coming back for the song. Is it on any platform?
Thanks so much Sam. :) it’s not out on any platforms yet. Working on releasing material from Q2 of this year.
hi alec, name of that beautiful snare? it sounds so warm and mellow
Hey Sailor Saturn! :) it’s a Craviotto Birch 14x6.5. I added the wood hoops from another snare I have.
If I ran a dave smith prophet rev 2 into this t12 would you run into the front di or into the line in on the back? What would you set the impedance to?
I’d likely run it into the front DI inputs. I’m not too sure if the DI inputs affect the impedance.
Would there be a preference between the Manley Force 4 and the API T12?
That’s a really tough choice. If you don’t have a lot of rack space, maybe the Manley. If you want to be able to drive the unit harder and have the option to get a more saturated tone, then the API wins. The additional HPF frequencies on the API are great too.
@@alecbrits Thank you for the prompt reply. Are both preamps 2U rack space each?
@@douglasrorrer7697 they are both 2u
@@douglasrorrer7697 they are both 2u. :)
What shaker and tambourine are those?
Mostly found of travels around Europe. :) toy sections are the best place to find stuff.
How does it compare with SPL Gold Mike?
I’ve not used the Gold Mike before. :)
@@alecbrits btw bro you are a true professional, pleasure to subscribe you
@@Iwillownyouandbehappy thank you!! :)
Gold mic is a bit more versatile, the Mk2 version. These are TL audio design's that API acquired and modified when they went out of business. If you find one on Reverb or elsewhere it will be the same sound roughly as this API offering. They may have improved the noise and THD the API however I have not evaluated the two.
Mic pre are waste of money just get decent mic
To each their own! :)
Ahh,, got to have led litten valves, like a cheap ebay integrated, or headphone "hifi" amp,, 😅.
German brand SPL, have a couple of 19" single channel mic pre,s where you can overdrive the valves to heaven, if wanted. Cool units. 😎
Cheers and thanks Alex. I realy luv this one. 🍻🥰👍👍
( The 8channel NEVE are my fav so far . Incredible good sounding in this end. ❤️)))😋(((❤️ )
Thanks for the kind words Irene! :) I made the arrangement a little more sparse just for you!
@@alecbrits Awww,, your too cute Alec 🥰.
It sounded soo much "better" without tons of arrangements stacked on top of each other. 👍😎👍
Thanks mate and have the best of weeks. Im as always looking forward to the next one. Take care. ❤️
