    Again thank you always for your honest review.
    I like when you quote: “For Neve to come to the interface market tells you a lot on how the music industry is running”.
    But I wish before they even put their product out for the public, they should’ve check with honest reviewers like you, who are not just get the money and make you think that the product is heaven sound. That is why now i shot down some channels and watch someone like you who is being honest and tell me what i need to know, or if it’s good for my production or not.

    Hi Alec,
    I am a 88M owner and for the most part I fully agree with your assessment, thanks so much for putting all the effort into this video.
    I think it's worth mentioning that the power matrix of the 88M is able to provide everything the box needs to run efficiently and effectively.
    While this box may not be to everyone's taste or budget I do believe this is a remarkable value considering the extraordinary quality.
    I would like to have seen a spdif input option to connect my 8801's and I would have liked to have seen a USB recording port where we could track directly to a usb drive with a similar configuration to the brilliant Soundcraft Ui webpage over a closed wifi connection.
    I did use my iPad pro with the 88M but I used a bog stock power brick , not aware Neve has a recommended power hub we should be using.
    Lastly, I've attempted using the 88M as a mixing interface with surprisingly good results, I have not gotten it to fall over as yet but for medium size project mixing, this has thus far proven to have more than enough power to operate in this capacity as well, and sound absolutely spectacular.
    I appreciate the omissions you'd have preferred to see but I don't see any of those as a real concern and my own wants for this box are purely personal and based on my own experience.
    Stay safe and well mate

    Such a great channel with some of the best gear demos. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these reviews. Great song and production as always. I think this box really has a nice sound and vibe. I'm a big fan of when the preamp is paired and tuned with a converter all in one unit. It takes so much guesswork out of the recording chain. I think AMS NEVE has a nice combo here sonically.

    the MINIMUM gain is +21dB on Mic (range of +21 to +68dB) and +13dB minimum on instrument, meaning these inputs are likely to clip on many (maybe even most) sources.Potential issues that Mic input impedance is a tad on the low side at 1.5 kOhms, and a minimum gain of +21 dB would mean that mic input overload would occur at -3 dBu

    I always enjoy your videos and always learn a lot too. Just on my earbuds, this sounded warm and smooth, very un-harsh - I like this sound. Although without an A/B comparison for me to hear, it's hard to assess how your song sounds as a result of the one particular piece of gear you're reviewing at the moment. Each review is a different performance, different instruments, etc. So I rely on your personal assessment at the end, but you tend to be diplomatic rather than decisively negative about things...but that's cool. --- This is a great youtube channel. Great music performances, great information. It's clear you're passionate and talented and I'm sure your audience will keep growing and growing. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Keep em coming.

    • @alexbreyer6921
      @alexbreyer6921 2 роки тому +3

      I'm surprised with hinting at a comparison, as these are two vastly different products. SSL Six isn't even an interface! No converters to get your sound in or out of the box. I'm not knocking you for liking it. I'm sure people are doing good things with it. But it's limited to working with SSL's purposefully limited tools and routing options. The EQ and comp are not the features or the quality SSL built their reputation on. As it's an interface with connection options, you can use whatever analog gear you want with the 88m, plus it gives professional sound on the way in and out.

    • @johnnymandez
      @johnnymandez 2 роки тому +1

      I actually want to combine the Neve 88M with my SSL SIX, and get rid of my Apollo Twin.

    • @shotsi673
      @shotsi673 2 роки тому

      @@johnnymandez An interface and the Six are complimentary. The Neve would be a great addition to the analogue workflow but it doesn't have the I/O's to work optimally with a Six. So I suppose I was lamenting the fact that, for me, it's a lost opportunity. I could be wrong. As far as the Six is concerned the 2 preamps on it are stellar. And even though the G-series compressor is limited it works in a very musical way to glue a mix that, I would say, an interface alone doesn't. Now, if Neve 88Mv2 came out with the same I/O's as an Apogee Quartet ... 🤔
      BTW I'm not using the preamps of the Apogee just its AD/DA converters.

    Al Schmitt-blessed be his name-got fully-baked, mix-ready sounds at the mic and preamp*. The rest of us usually call those sounds _raw_ and need a little help getting to the finish line. 😉
    As much as I enjoy your songs at their gear-showcase level of completion, I'd like to hear your final mixes as well, either in the video or posted elsewhere.

      I’m quite keen to get some solid mix tutorials out soon! Would be fun to take this tune and knock it into shape. Really enjoyed the tone of each of the elements, so I think it would come together nicely.

      Al schmitt got loads of external preamps (you can easily check on gearspace or on many mix website) and was using them for important sources (especially voice). He was only using the real neve 88 (which is different from this one) for what was left. But for sure he could do with whatever he had, he was really godlike.

    I got the Steinberg by Yamaha just because it had the Neve Transformers, but the noise floor isn't low enough. I thought about getting this but the price range is about three times too much. I'll just go with the SSL, since both the noise and price are low.

    Hi Alec, really appreciated your review. I thought for certain my mind was made up for an Audient id44 mkii, but now I'm not so sure. These are entirely different beasts. Have you done a review on this particular Audient. I'm at bit of a loss here. I'm thinking the bottom line difference must lay in the audio, but hearing the difference in one review would be so advantageous. Thanks if something like this is ever possible. Good job in your review.

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  2 роки тому

      I have not tried the MKii yet. But it does offer a very extra features. I very familiar with the pre’s as I use them every day on my console. :) the Neve will have a more harmonically rich tone then the Audient, but the Audient has a lot more creature comforts than the Neve. So it depends on your workflow.

      "These are entirely different beasts." = spot on. Do you need a Swiss army knife"? If yes, iD44mkII is a great choice. If no, I'd buy the 88M.

    Great review! I think this would be an amazing addition to my setup. I currently use a Fireface 800 interface but would use this as an input / print device. I’m just wondering can you use the Neve 88m to route audio out of the computer, or is it just an input device? Thanks

    • @alecbrits

      It is just an input device in its standalone mode. I think you can send out of the ADAT though.

    Thanks for great review! I’m considering to get one, but only my concern is that I want to use 88M for Mixing and Mastering inserting other outboard. Can we use Insert SND to send sound from DAW to outboard and receive back to RTN from outboard? Or only way to do is to use main out to use as send and receive the return to pres or RTN and monitor through Headphones only?

      It’s not really possible to use this in that way really, unless you were sending signals out with one interface and then using this as a capture device.

  • @MartinFellerMusic
    @MartinFellerMusic 2 роки тому +1

    Have you measured the Jitter? Usually converters that do not have a dedicated power supply struggle with the stability of clocking as laptops and pc's have alot of parts that use power. Power will be inconsistent for the interface and cause clocking issues (jitter). So that would not make this device a reliable printing machine. However, that is always the trade off you make with a portable device like this

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Martin! Thanks for the added info. I have not measured the jitter on it, but I did prefer the tone of the AD/DA to my Apollo’s. :)

    Thanks for the thorough review. Which would you go with if you had to choose between the 88m or Babyface Pro for home recording? Predominantly using 1-2 microphones on acoustic instruments, vocals, amps, and some live drums. No synths, samples, midi, etc. Looking for vintage studio sounds (50s-70s). Or is there another good option to consider?

      no comparison man, the neve kills the babyface soundwise. used to have a babyface never liked the sound, its super sterile and thin i found in comparison, ppl always rave about the super drivers but very few speak about babyface sound, i even preferred my audient id22 compared to the babyface pro, ad converters going to the speakers are super important for me they werent good enough on the BBface

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому

      Thank you! :) I think that depends on your current recording chain really. If you are doing all the processing before the conversion stage, then it may be the right interface. If you are using the Apollo processing to achieve the sound you would like, then the Apollo is the right interface for the job. :)
