Awesome video. Got 1 spare of these clocks with this problem and had to pay £380 for a replacement clocks as these are getting like hens teeth. Gonna give that a go so my van shows the correct millage and get the original back in.
Only thing I'm struggling with is how does the clock, fuel and temp, millage clocks come out.

Wow that's a lot of money. But they are getting rarer and rarer I suppose. Definitely worth giving it a go mate. The caps cost pennies, and it's a straightforward job. I have posted on a previous vid how to remove clock faces. But it's just a case of gentle pressure under the needles and they will slide of the pins. Then the clocks will be free to remove mate. Let me know how you get on 🤙🤙 and thanks so much for supporting the channel, we really appreciate it

I switched out the capacitor, plugged the cluster back in and all the dials were back to normal except for the fuel gauge. Turns out I had pushed that one down a bit too far so there was too much friction against the clock surface. Backed it off and all is well. Thanks for this great video!

@@valhallavw It was fine for a couple of drives, and then the van sat for a few weeks. Today the dials are going crazy again, could something else be causing the capacitor to go bad, or was my soldering job inadequate?

@@HaroldThePumpkin hello mate sorry for the delay in replying. That's a tricky one. I've had no problems since mine was done. Touch wood lol. I would try again, maybe dodgy capacitor or soldering not quite right. Give board a good clean. Did you use flux solder ?

Hi mate. Sorry for the late reply. Vw have a habit of putting whatever they like in the dash assembly lol. Well they do when it comes to mine. Mine was in a changeover year so I have allsorts of random parts on mine. Once you get the back off you will be able to see. The capacitors are relatively cheap to buy. And in either case you will be needing a soldering iron and some fluxed solder. 🤙🤙
