Of course, the police were calm with the people attacking students. They both do it!
The UCLA campus is 423 acres and there are NO Gates that they can open or close. It is wide open and inviting. It's not like Columbia which has a number of gates that can be opened or closed. Reporters don't seem to know those facts.
UCLA is also a state college and not a private one like Columbia.

Why would schools pay? They are part of the community so the police are there for them as well.
Tax payers, which is the University as a business and individuals alike. Like any business that has unwanted occupants, they call the police and they do their job.
tax payers are paying 2T a year to keep the weapons industrial complex alive.
This is good business for the police...that's how they make money.

@@topendbailey6915 I've tried to call it by name or be more detailed in many posts. Those posts are quickly removed. Which kind of tells you that you are on the right path.
It's because the FRSO is involved again; particularly one of its larger member groups, the SDS, sometimes called the New SDS to distinguish it from the 1960-1969 movement. The SDS is who has been organizing this through social media, including Facebook; spreading the sale literature (for the tents and other paraphernalia), the instructions and game-plans, and so on.
The neo-Marixst umbrella group FRSO, which SDS is in (as well as other far-left groups including the Communist Party USA), *used to be* on FB, before they got dumped a few weeks ago. The only thing left there is me everywhere in their face all over the place. I lived in a Communist country, and with each passing year, since I've returned here, I hear ever more and more of the dog-whistles (that many of you are apparently oblivious to) of what I thought I left behind. Not on *my* land they don't. And my land is the world. Wherever FRSO groups go, agitation follows (including the core of the DEI programs that have infected campuses, entertainment industry and businesses). That's going to stop; when their course gets blocked by an unmovable Rock.
In fact, I just checked. They got all the notes, sales links, and organizational instructions and communications over on FB under two major SDS pages.

the Israeli side is showing their true colors even in the US now, violently attacking a peaceful encampment. That's a major escalation and likely to change the conversation, such as it is.

I think all sides are in the wrong. On the one hand, I don't support police brutalizing protesters at all and think the latter should be able to protest without fear of being brutalized and shut down. On the other hand, I think protesters shouldn't let their freedoms and rights go to their heads. You can be passionate about something and protest, but protesting doesn't give you all carte blanche to go outside of the boundaries of what is acceptable by escalating to violence over a disagreement, commandeering college campuses that are private property and even waltzing and desecrating campuses that are private property.
Protesting is a legal right however, As soon as you break the law, you are no longer a protester and become something else!!!
Yeah well the pro israel side don't have encampments sent up.. the pro israel size are now fighting back against the fact the Jewish students and faculty have had their rights to attend university stripped from them!
Well when you actually see the vidoes coming out of that area you cant help but be passionate. They treat those poeple worse than animals. They are hard to find and I cant post links cause youtube deletes em, but do some hardcore searching and watch what is really going on. Its beyond sick. It is pure horrifying.
Careful. Your critical thought will get you hated by both sides. You are right, in my opinion. But good luck getting people to see your righteousness. I find in most cases, if I give such a nuanced thought, no one likes me. And the state won’t like it either. But, good on you for stating the truth. Peacefully at that, too.
