      @@beepthesheep867 Agreed on many of the above. After seeing this video we are getting the e2008 as well. Specs, range and other details are good but at the end of the day I love driving this car. I also love to see it in my driveway. And the best part is when I take it for a wash, it looks like a supercar when it's freshly washed imo 😊. I work from home the last 2+ years and driving around is my getaway. I live near Reading and love to drive on the B roads around here. We did Whinfell forest last month and it was fine. The four of us and a full boot. We had to stop several times to charge but it was fun. I have thought of getting a bigger car such as the Ioniq 5 or the EV6 but they are very expensive and don't really need all that space. Teslas are a sensible choice but the build quality is shocking. They look very bland as well. Driving an EV is so much better than the petrol version so what I say is go for what you like.

      @@beepthesheep867 That’s quite a comment - almost a whole review! Do agree it’s really a second car - we have a family estate as well and there’s no way the e208 is useable for a family, but as a commuter/second car it’s pretty much perfect when you take running costs into account. Would love a large EV to replace our estate but as a decent one is £50K ish (or £60K for a Tesla) that’s not going to happen anytime soon!

    Excellent review. We have had ours for 18 months and covered 16,000 miles now. We love it. We test drive it back to back with the MINI and the E-208 is easily the better all round model. We love the cabin,3D cockpit and the fun drive! Wish it was a bit more efficient especially in the winter. This class of car is where it’s at. Just need better range then no need for these stupidly big and heavy SUV EVs. (MINI E is FWD although it uses the RED BMW i3 running gear. Too much torque steer! Honda E is RWD though..)

    Had mine for 2 years and absolutely love it. Nobody that has driven it has had a problem seeing the dials over the steering wheel so I really don't get that at all. You mention that the battery has changed, it hasn't, its still exactly the same. Had an e-corsa as a courtesy car when mine was being serviced and it felt like chalk and cheese. Dull inside and out and the steering wheel felt like it belonged on a bus!

    hello, its 2024 now and i bought an e 208 used with 20tkm 2 month ago. we are quite pleased with this car and charge it with the solar panels on our roof. being a retired car mechanic my only complaint is that there is still no repair manual avaiable for the e version. i have to do some learning here, it is plenty different from the guzzlers i repaired all the years. we also own a citroen ami , just for the cuteness and, while that is on a far lower level of engeneering, i enjoy the ease of maintaining it very much. greetings from portugal

Good point about the Ora Cat, it's a smart looking car but the boot is tiny and it's an unknown brand, if they started at £20k for the base small battery version, they would be on to something, but £30k is just far too much

The menus on the infotainment have some funky quirks, like inconsistent A/C menu but apart from that there's nothing really wrong with it for commuting and the odd long journey. I have been admiring this car for some time, it even comes in some fun colours (not many car manufacturers do that these days). Though the new version basically nails what I need, I doubt the price will be something I can afford. The GT version, with added 3phase charger and panoramic roof, with a £5k deposit, 8k annual mileage and over 48 months (about the limit of what you'd want to do on a PCP scheme) puts the monthly's at £474 and that is before, insurance, maintenance and charging...for a supermini; ouch.

      @Beep the Sheep my maths isn't wrong, I assure you.
      To start, my current car a CT200h costs me (amortised over three years) ~£70pcm covering insurance and servicing, home maintenance extends to filling the washer bottle and adjusting the tyre pressures every so often. Fuel, depends on what I am doing, this month it will be £100 or so, but usually it's about £50, it was way six months ago. I don't have a monthly payment. When I did it was only £180pcm.
      The three phase charger was on the car not at home, at home I'd have a regular wall box for quick charging. The 3phase adds £500 to the price of the car, to me it's a sensible addition as some public chargers (non rapid chargers) have it. It doesn't really affect the affordability of the car.

    • @AviatingWithMel
      @AviatingWithMel 2 роки тому

      @@beepthesheep867 Its not that I hardly use it, it simply appears to run on thin air, the CT is basically a Prius in a posh frock. I have never had less than 50mpg out of it.
      And being a Lexus the chances of a major breakdown are slim.
      Even before Covid and I was commuting I was only putting £12 - £25 a week in it, or £18 - £37 in todays prices. Working from home means no commute, so I have a couple of short journeys per week (supermarket type trips) and depending on the weather and what I am doing otherwise one or two 70 mile round trips to the airfield on a weekend and then a couple of long road trips (I could do them by air if the weather was guaranteed but it never is).
      I really do want an electric car, but I would have to make too many sacrifices elsewhere in my life to make it happen for a newer one. A used 2nd Gen leaf (40kwh) would do me fine for 90% of my journeys, (though I'd still have to find £8-10k on top of mine as a trade in) so I have been looking at that more recently, but that 168 miles is a bit low for the road trip, given that most of that journey is at motorway speeds I'd be stopping to charge quite a few times I'd imagine and in cold weather (say we get an early Easter), it might very well mean having to rent an ICE car.

    • @IanMcc1000
      @IanMcc1000 2 роки тому

      @@AviatingWithMel I wouldn't bother adding 3 phase, unless you have a lack of DC charging in your area. Most public AC chargers will probably give you well under 22kwh even if they are capable.

    Had mine 6 month, lovely to drive and range is really good. I am 6ft and yes the top of the steering wheel is exactly in line with the center of the dash display and cant move wheel lower or it be hitting my knees. The display can be be put in a format that moves the speedo to the upper right so can at least see that bit of information. would really been a good idea to have heads-up display as an option.
    All in all very happy with the car, however what would have put me off ever buying one, if I had known, is the app is appalling. Its rather important to me to monitor and manage the charging when not at the vehicle. However the app struggles to even connect. Currently although driven the car almost every day it still showing last connection 15 days ago. Also maintenance records not showing and location of the vehicle on the map never correct or up to date.

    What I don't like about these many reviewers is that they simply get the top of the range model and review that. In fact, I drive an Allure e208 with the optional 10" screen and although the grille has the same colour tones as the car, the lion is a single colour. Not all models are the same and it seems that either in the UK everyone gets the GT or GT Line or Premium or else these reviewers are simply doing marketing for the manufacturer.

    Also a thought about motorway driving reducing range for electric cars. The weight may be too great to have a proper gearbox between the electric motor and the wheels, but what about an overdrive? A very small and relatively light addition that could be engaged while on the motorway and that will extend the range quite a bit. With modern materials, it should weigh about 20lb or 9Kg and could make the motor work 10%, 20%, 30% less at motorway speeds.

    The e208 is a decent looking car, but the manufacturers keep at the silly prices. Looking on the Peugeot site at the PCP, they want a whopping £8,712 deposit and then £279 for a four year, 6k miles/year deal. This is for the cheapest Active Premium model with no options. For the basic petrol 1.2 Puretech 75 S&S, the deal is £4,114 deposit and then £209 for a four year, 6k miles/year deal.
    So the big issue remains that manufacturers are loading up the cars with chintzy bling and then asking top dollar for it. I bet the lower spec e208 didn't sell as it was cheaped out spec wise and was offered at not much less than the Active Premium. Lets be honest, if they did a proper job, they could be offering a basic e208 at £25k, which at five thousand more than the petrol makes a great deal of rational sense. Ten thousand more as it is at the moment with cheap bling added, I don't think so.

      I have to agree with this even though I have one on order. The only reason I can afford one is it’s a company scheme and basically I am leasing it for 3 years at a substantially lower monthly payment than I would elsewhere and everything is included (even tyres). @@Electroheads If not buttons then at least a single logical layout. The thing about buttons that makes them easy isn’t their tactile feel, but rather the universal ease of use. You may not remember cars of the 1980s or 90s that I learned to drive on (or Volvos of the 2000s), but having many oddly laid out buttons is just as complicated. What’s packing is basic UX. Simplification of use is as important as definition.
      Large screens should be for large touch areas, not more tiny touch areas. The trick for our brains is “choices”. The fewer the options we have have, the easier. So… an option of two or three large touch buttons should be standard. Burying controls is fine as long as it stays within that structure.
      Unfortunately, car critics have always complained that low use functions were being buried within layers of screens, so companies now put 20 touch buttons on screens, which is actually worse. Finally, why not mirror the infotainment screens in the digital readouts and shy not use paddles or steering wheel buttons to select?

That's around 290 to 310 miles depending on the driving conditions. Diesel fuel is needed due to the large loads and distances trucks drive. And for heavy equipment and farms equipment.
