Loving the attention to detail with king dices' deck when he talks about family. When he talks about his mother, it's the Queen of hearts, who is a very emotional card. She often lets things get the better of her, but at the same time, is very attached to people, and does her best to protect them, so her dying of non-mob causes makes sense. About his father? King of diamonds. Very materialistic, very jealous, and very quick to anger. I wouldn't be surprised if the person that sold him out did so because they had a falling out (ie, dad dice refused to give money/help the guy out), and they quickly traded him over for material possessions (money).

Mugman in this au? He has genuine arrogance. He actually has made himself believe that he deserves to know everything, to hold every bit of knowledge there is. He believes that he can conquer mortality, that it's something that should be promised to him at this point because of all the suffering he has dealt with. Mugman was given the spade because of his fear of the unknown, of unpredictability. He wants to be in control, to know exactly when and how everything will happen. That's what sets him and Cuphead apart. Mugman is getting so caught up in his fantasy of regaining all of the power him and his brother lost that he's forgetting that the reason he shouldn't attempt to gain immortality is because of the people that came before him. They aren't lessons to be learned from in the sense that you should just try a different method of obtaining everlasting life, they're a warning. A message to all who dare to try and rise beyond what they were predestined to be in terms of mortality. A message saying that it cannot and should not be done, something will inevitably go wrong. Cuphead also shows more maturity when talking about what he would say to Elder Kettle if they were to ever meet again. Cuphead just wants to apologize for the hassle he caused, for all of the stress and worry, wants to show the one who raised him how far he's come and how he's changed. Mugman on the other hand, sure he would be ecstatic to see his guardian again, but he mainly wants answers. He wants to ask the questions he didn't get the chance to ask in order to move himself further along in his goal of regaining his lost abilities, abilities he got from the aforementioned guardian. Cuphead, as childish and reckless as he is, shows far more maturity than his brother.
(i know im super late hope you don't mind) I agree with that but, I noticed that for as much emotional maturity cuphead might have, he seems to have a tendency to avoid negative emotion all together. When asked about elder kettle, he tried to not answer or became defensive. maybe its not emotional maturity but that he's shoving them away and hiding them under a mask of flamboyance and loudness. also noted, when he said he has nightmares, he said he goes to apartment roof and smokes which I see as him trying to avoid thinking about the nightmare and dealing with it (could also be taken as self h@rming behaviors as a means of emotional regulation which I do). Another thing is cuphead is also probably dealing with a lot of guilt about 1) causing hassle to elder kettle and 2) gambling his and mugs souls away. he really doesn't want to think about that as he's said in previous episodes which can lead down a really dark path. So Cuphead can drink demonic alcohol and live, while Mugman is trying to find how to be immortal like a mad man. are you sure they aren't already immortal souls but just have a mortal body?
Maybe that's why they are descendants of the Calix Animi. There souls chose the bodies of powerful beings, which may explain why Mugman is having this quest for power and immortality
38:06 Dice is looking at Devil’s soul when he says I love you (you can see his eye is green)....implying that Dice has been manipulated into thinking people cared about him in the past and the insecurities born from that have carried over into his relationship with Devil....
Ooo good observation! It’s my theory that even though they put on this façade of it being strictly a professional relationship; however, I think that they do genuinely love each other but there’s some kind of trust issues going on
The way mugman gasped at devil saying that they celebrate pride month and then when devil starts saying they celebrate the rest of the 7 deadly sins his expressions drop
Love the fact that at 12:13, to invoke Lilith, there's her sigil and symbols attached to her (night/stars) that are used. Little details that really make you understand the effort that was put into this
I’ve noticed a few things about the character development that really caught my eye (this spoils some stuff so finish the video first bc the voice acting is A++): Cuphead and Mugman have kind of ‘switched’ their way of thinking about things. Mugman has become more selfish about knowledge about immortality (as seen at the end) he’s kind of lost his ethics and morals, he no longer cares and is in a blind pursuit of answers, and kind of losing faith or care for his brother. Cups on the other hand has put the past behind him, yes he’s still brash and arrogant, but he’s reflected on his actions (the question about what they’d say to elder kettle) and regrets many of his choices. He also genuinely cares about his brother (worrying for him in his nightmares before the break in scene) and he doesn’t care about his immortality, yes he might miss the bullet fingers and powers, and yes he might want them back, but he doesn’t seem too troubled with losing them indefinitely. I feel like in a sense they’ve both kind of switched view points, mugs has become more arrogant and selfish while cups has become more morally stable and selfless. Also, I just want to note, NO ONE believes in cups (they all think he’s stupid and arrogant) but he’s changed a lot and had a lot of time to change as a person but even Mugman doesn’t give him the beneifit of the doubt anymore [edit] (after going over some of the comments I’ve received) it’s interesting to note that at 1:00:44 King Dice explains the meaning behind the other two cards (hearts and clubs) and that Dice has the hearts on his uniform and the Devil is shown with clubs during the explanation (his pitchfork also takes the shape of the clubs suit) and as we have seen of the behind the scenes characterization of the Devil he seems very much so similar to the traits of the club suit. He’s seen to be *very* knowledgeable about the inner workings of the universe and is very driven and curious; however, with Dice we haven’t seen much characterization associated with the hearts suit except, of course, for his relationship with the Devil (which I suspect is an actual relationship they just don’t like admitting it or some other reason) and the relationship he has with Mugman (a kind of tutor or mentor figure). We know that his family was very awful to him as a child but he really values his found family (the casino) as well. I found these points interesting because when we originally learned about spades and diamonds they very much correlated to Mugs and Cups personalities so now we know that clubs and hearts do the same with the Devil and Dice. I also want to note the fact that Cups and Mugs are very much opposites much like how Spades and Diamonds are kind of opposites, and we can draw the same conclusion with Devil and Dice. Anyways if you have any theories feel free to chat with me in the comments!
Alexis Dai I don’t think the series is leading up to that. It seems like the immortal alcohol thing is a joke but I’m not sure. As of right now my theory is that they’re kind of half immortal? It’s said they have ancestors who were (I think chalice is one of them) but I think what it’s going to be is that they have immortality but it’s been dulled down in a sense. So they’re not all powerful/invulnerable like the devil but they have been able to be resurrected so that’s an interesting point of contention. So really, no, I don’t think they’re immortal (sorry if I confused you more if I need to clarify something I can)
Bippity boppity Thank you! And I was as well! I’m all up for character development and sometimes the most interesting characters to analyze are characters that go from good to bad it’s very interesting!
I LOVE this comic. It takes such simple character and world concepts from canon and blows them out of the water. I am so into the character exploration they’re doing with mugman
Was that really the end? Dang. And to the voices that made this dub, you really did an above and beyond job. Like, dang. You weren’t just reading, you were ACTING. Great job.
Y’know how Mugman wants to be immortal and wants to know the truth and he also thinks he should be the only one to know... well y’know how cuphead drank the demon alcohol and he was fine I think that cuphead is gonna be the “truth” that mugman is looking for
I have a theory. Maybe Mugman has just been lying to himself about his moral compass and his ability to really get past things, through this research and finding out the truth. Because 1. Spades, along with being smart/rational, they are good liers, maybe even to themselves. 2. He never really seemed to move on from something’s (hinting at the fight with the devil or elder kettles death), he either kept it hidden until another time or suppressed it down. 3. A lot of this sort of thinking about being immortal, having regrets and having different sorts of feelings happened while drunk, and there’s a saying that’s like “Drunken actions are sober thoughts.” (This is a point because he’s always been like this while drunk, but having another reason to bring out those feelings like “the truth”, could act as an motive) (Hope this makes sense)
11:14 lust month: febuary. pride month: june. greed month: december. gluttons month: november. wrath month: october envy: september when school staarts is the best i can come up with theres probably a better envy month
30:54 Just realized because of this, that Lucofer must truly be insecure, if it's an emotion he could feel. The perfect angel, who was dropped harder than anyone ever has or will be.
Chips backstory reminds me so much of that one scene from the movie Rango, where this Chameleon, made up a random backstory dubbing himself Rango and lies to the whole town about who he is, when really he was a pet for a family who accidentally made his cage fall off the car in the middle of the desert.
1:26:51 the blue shapes around Mugman look too much like wings to be a coincidence, and I am exited what is to come of his goal to “become greater” than his mortality Edit: Mugman is kinda scary sometimes when he gets really into things...
This is something I suspected since the 21 minute around it was where he and the devil Were arguing and the devil said he is more knowledgeable and smarter than mugs because he is Immortal and Mugs is not
Also, at 1:27:37 You can see the blue shapes form to create a crown above Mugman’s head. This might represent his pride, greed and list to become immortal. He has worked himself to the bone trying to figure out how to accomplish his goal, but hasn’t come close. Mugman is definitely going crazy and his greed is getting the best of him. His actions remind me of a king who wants to become more powerful, and is drowning in his own pride, lust and greed. The crown represents that. A lustful king, driven to getting more powerful.
that part at 43:05 is the thing i relate to most. I remember just going into my great grandmothers room and while her bed used to fit both of us, i would just lay on her floor. It wasn't comfortable like a bed, but it was comforting to be there. I remember when i got older i used to lay in bed besides her and talk for an hour or so as we were getting up in the morning, waiting for her machines to finish their nightly routines. Then head to the living and make a small breakfast. Then spend the day just relaxing in the living room, me on my laptop while watching shows on the tv on a couch while she had her lounge chair and sat there with her tablet and some ice tea. I still make that ice tea to this day.
Wow that is so coooooooooooooooooooool Whenever I had a nightmare... It was probably about that creepy doll I had... SO CREEPY... I sorta like creepy now though... I'm not scared anymore!!! I will still smack her across the room... Just to show her who's BOSS!!!
You know you've been on UA-cam to long when you hear Kind Dice's theme song and expect "hello everyone and welcome back to EmKay" before the trumpet starts.
I'm just gonna take this comment to appreciate the effort of the author in the making of this *amazing* comic. I haven't really seen that many well made fan comics, it's impressive!
i accidentally said “hell yeah!” infront of my dad when i got the notification. but it was worth 1 hour, 28 minutes and, 33 seconds! Edit: For the people asking for his reaction he basically just gave me a death stare and gave me a really long lecture on how I get excited over the most stupid stuff.
Something similar happened to me First thing My dad complains about me and my sister not putting our dishes in the dishwasher But the thing is he doesn't either, and I actually do Second thing He once complained about me being a bit loud while playing videogames and I told him I'm at least quieter than him while watching our hockey team play. He got pretty angry but at least he never complained about that again
I really appreciate this comic(even if I’m late beyond reason) and it’s cool to see how mugman throughout it is getting more and more into his work while also getting progressively more selfish.
He and a bunch of the other characters are sharing the same VA in these dubs so maybe he got tired, maybe the change in the voice’s tone was intentional, or the VA’s own voice is also changing.
Dude, I fucking love Phear! He has my favorite backstory and I like that he isn't super arrogant or annoying. He just kinda does his thing, sitting in a corner and counting his sins.
Personally I don't think that MugMan is going crazy I just think that he was drunk, because in part 1 CupHead said that MugMan can be very sad and emotional when he's drunk.
31:07 OMFGGG NOW I REALLY SHIP THEM IN THIS SERIES!!! DICE IS SITTING ON DEVILS LAP AND HOLDING HANDS!? DEFFO FLIRTING TOO!? OMGGGG I KNEW THEY BOTH WERE GAY. AND I LOVE IT!!!!
38:05 dice used his green eye ability when devil said " I love you". does this mean that he did not believe that the devil was telling the truth about the way he feels🧐😱
This is the GREATEST comic I have EVER SEEN! The storytelling is amazing and now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for new pages!!! I hope Shavs posts another one of these videos for the next ones!
I genuinely would pay money to see someone continue this story with Mugman finally reaching a breaking point and pushing everyone away, even Cuphead, to get the answers he thinks he needs so badly, especially in search of an escape from mortality and death
i'm re-watching this now for like, the 6th time, and I keep watching Devils and Mugmans debate over morals and stuff, and I still wonder how long this took to put together. Like this is the part that sticks out to me every time! (this is still one of my favorite comic dubs, the voices match really well w/ the characters :)
I love how the cards on the floor when D was having that flashback had blood on spades, as the first half of this comic dub states that spades mean death, illness and loss, epik detal
Okay can I just say that Mugs and Devil debating is really cute? Though that debate will lead to Mugs probably getting in WAY over his head. Edit: Marking my spot as 22:14 so I can continue this later.
Now i got the image of Mugman accidentally falling into Quadratus as they were speaking to each other, and/or out of frustration and spite, Mugman drinks Quadratus and something weird happens, like Mugman gets visions about the Calix Animi or Quadratus’ memories about Quadratus’ interactions with Chalice and others who were like her.
In Michael's question: (Yes, I was waiting this question so long!!!) Devil: EVERYBODY SHUT UP! ...He is nobody... . . . . . . . . Me: *my ears bleeding* Yeah, I am pretty sure he's nobody!
When Cuphead screams "HEY MUGS!" on top of the- *finding words* Statue, I got vibes of C!Tommy (Cuphead) and C!Tubbo. (Mugman) also why at 35:00 he says it so normally. also idk which part it is but when Dice is calming Devil down bc they're all agreeing he's a crybaby it reminded me of Ranboo and Tubbo.
I love the fact that this comic takes a lot of things from the games that just what kind of game elements are just background details and actually expands on them

Maybe that's why they are descendants of the Calix Animi. There souls chose the bodies of powerful beings, which may explain why Mugman is having this quest for power and immortality

But its still a good ship UwU

Ooo good observation! It’s my theory that even though they put on this façade of it being strictly a professional relationship; however, I think that they do genuinely love each other but there’s some kind of trust issues going on

I like how at the end, Mugman seems to have a full on villain monologue.
Yooo yeah! Mugman being a little sus, but I like it.
The debate between Mugs and Devil made me laugh so hard, especially when Devil pulled Dice into it
The way mugman gasped at devil saying that they celebrate pride month and then when devil starts saying they celebrate the rest of the 7 deadly sins his expressions drop

Love the fact that at 12:13, to invoke Lilith, there's her sigil and symbols attached to her (night/stars) that are used. Little details that really make you understand the effort that was put into this
I’ve noticed a few things about the character development that really caught my eye (this spoils some stuff so finish the video first bc the voice acting is A++):
Cuphead and Mugman have kind of ‘switched’ their way of thinking about things. Anyways if you have any theories feel free to chat with me in the comments!
is cups actually immortal because i’m confused now. i know he drank the immortal alcohol without dying but i wasn’t sure if he was mortal or immortal
Yeah I like your analysis. I was shocked at the character development Mugman went through!
So really, no, I don’t think they’re immortal (sorry if I confused you more if I need to clarify something I can)
Melody Song_Draws thank you so much
Bippity boppity Thank you!
We are similar to you❤
Was that really the end? Dang.
And to the voices that made this dub, you really did an above and beyond job. Like, dang. You weren’t just reading, you were ACTING. Great job.
Y’know how Mugman wants to be immortal and wants to know the truth and he also thinks he should be the only one to know... well y’know how cuphead drank the demon alcohol and he was fine I think that cuphead is gonna be the “truth” that mugman is looking for
OMG that’s so true!!!
Dom_ Dom MIND BLOWN 🤯🤯🤯🤯
You might be on to something here-
It’s just cuz that would be a great plot twist that would make sense
Dom_ Dom ya that’s true
I have a theory. Maybe Mugman has just been lying to himself about his moral compass and his ability to really get past things, through this research and finding out the truth. Because 1. Spades, along with being smart/rational, they are good liers, maybe even to themselves. 2. He never really seemed to move on from something’s (hinting at the fight with the devil or elder kettles death), he either kept it hidden until another time or suppressed it down. 3. A lot of this sort of thinking about being immortal, having regrets and having different sorts of feelings happened while drunk, and there’s a saying that’s like “Drunken actions are sober thoughts.” (This is a point because he’s always been like this while drunk, but having another reason to bring out those feelings like “the truth”, could act as an motive)
(Hope this makes sense)

1:26:51 the blue shapes around Mugman look too much like wings to be a coincidence, and I am exited what is to come of his goal to “become greater” than his mortality
Edit: Mugman is kinda scary sometimes when he gets really into things...
This is something I suspected since the 21 minute around it was where he and the devil Were arguing and the devil said he is more knowledgeable and smarter than mugs because he is Immortal and Mugs is not
Also, at 1:27:37
You can see the blue shapes form to create a crown above Mugman’s head.
