Hey, if you're in need of an education on the subject of God and The Bible, watch the 5-part series that the History Channel made called "The Bible". It is a wonderful series with very high production values. And you get to see The Bible actually acted out as well as narrated in certain parts where it is necessary. It REALLY does not shy away from showing the brutal parts either.

      Acting as there is a God, being good or bad depending upon which Hod. Aztecs murdered 20K people in one day, as I understand it, to please their god. So, if we are speaking about Jesus, IMO, a civilization would be a better one to live in if all act in accordance with His moral teaching. That said, He wasn't here to improve morals for the sake of society. But Paul called it;
“‭If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what good is it to me? If the dead are not raised, LET’S EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.”
      (1Corinthians 15:32, NASB20)
There is no point in denying your hedonistic pleasures if it is not in service to God.
That's hard to imagine a Christian saying, and Paul was a stellar example, to use humanistic terms, of what a Christian should be. When he denies the utilitarian aspect of good works, he doesn't do it lightly. Rather, he is making it clear that sacrifice is of no avail unless done as a loving service to Christ. So, good behavior certainly makes for better living conditions, in my opinion, but long term, they gain the human little. It may ease your conscience, but this life is short, and only serving Jesus has long term positive implications for humans. Good deeds done for reasons other than service to Jesus, are done under bad motives. That means that while they are not as bad as acting badly, it has a relatively small mitigating effect on God's wrath, and THAT should set one to trembling. The OT has over 200 fulfilled prophecies in it and zero misses. No person, book, nor anything else has such an amazing track record. The evidences for God are myriad, so no one of any intellect can say they had no way of knowing. Only those who put on the innocents of Jesus will escape unimaginable wrath for cosmic treason. Yet only those whom God foreknew are able to do so. In strictly humanistic terms, this seems unfair. Theologically speaking, none deserve mercy, so that any are saved is amazing. The point though is this, only belief in the true Christ can remedy the pain of failure. Failure to life up to the standard you inherently know that you are not living up to. That is because only salvation can bring you peace. Only then can you know that you'll ever improve, and when you do stumble, it was forgiven before you did it. Some will lie to themselves and continue in sin with a false sense of security, but believers become ever more keenly aware of their self deception and reject it. Most will likely never reach a point where they become a glowing example, but they will be far better than they would have been without salvation in this life, and are promised to be made perfect in the next one.

I was a pagan (so cool, obviously) and found all those practices to be so empty - pouring out my best intentions to receive silence in return. Turning to Jesus was massively different; after years of wishing/actively trying for spiritual connection, Jesus hit me like a lightning strike.
My prayers and wishes were suddenly answered, my life became increasingly positive and peaceful.
It’s a true change, and I heard people speak like this before I knew the power of the Holy Spirit and thought it was brainwashing! He’s so real, and so easy to experience for yourself! You just have to be willing. Jesus loves you more than you could ever know. ❤

Knowledge and belief are two separate things.
    - Theism is the belief in a god
    - Atheism is the rejection of that belief

I am an atheist. I have not substituted some other thing as a religion in my life. I don't have hedonistic values. I just simply don't believe in God. I think the problem is that we have a world full of people who have no discipline, no empathy for fellow humans, and a lot of selfish people. Christianity provides some antidotes or guardrails if you will. But I don't think a decent evolved person requires the threat of damnation to behave themselves and comport themselves in a manner that is beneficial to both themselves and others. I suppose most Christians would say you can't have morals if you don't believe in God, But I would argue that you absolutely can. I believe Christianity just holds basic human truths as far as how you should behave that were universal whether you believing God or not. It's just easier if you don't believe in hell to act like an asshole.

Why would you need Christianity to give you as an individual morality when Christianity already gave your culture morality? I believe in God. But I also know most who don't owe their own morality to a God they've decided to discard. The Bible will help anyone no matter what they believe in. My issue is that atheists rarely admit this and instead say people would've "figured it out." No. They are not "basic human truths" or there would never be commandments. Moses would have simply said, go be human.

I seem to be in the same place as Douglas Murray. All my beliefs and morals clearly come from Christianity. I went to Christian schools. But I've never believed in God. I've always had trouble accepting the more... supernatural(?) facets of religion, but lately I've been listening a lot to Jake, Andrew Wilson, Michael Knowles to name a few, and always come out agreeing with the majority of what they say. And I think the evidence is there for all to see what a Godless society has done to our culture. I still don't know how to reconcile those two beliefs. I can't see myself being a true believer, but I recognise what not believing and practicing Christianity does. Hmmf...

Yes he has. I agree with Richard on most of his views. Just because christianity may have brought some good cultural and societal things in countries with this faith, it's still not evidence god exists and I imagine it's even harder for a evolutionay biologist to have blind faith when it's so contradictory to your lifes work. There could have been a total different religion centries ago that still produced beautiful works of art, brought communities together(especially without technology) it just happens christianity was one nearest to our times and of it's time really. Things have changed a lot in the world with technology. There's always some negatives that come with the positives in any religion, even if the new age religions are worse. There has always being dark triad personalities attached to any religions and christianity is not different. There been a lot of priests and nuns throughout the years that have done very bad things. ireland is a prime example. I don't think it's just a matter of people losing christianity.. the epidemic of narcissism in modern civilization and modern society has come about for a whole host of reasons that have nothing to do with if you are christian or not. Also a lot of homosexuals stopped being christians because they felt aspects of it was at odds with their sexuality, not because of people like Richard Dawkins. I know many good conservative athiests, some of them featured in this video. Ricky Gervais is one of the most down to earth genuine guys on tv in my opinion and brought up in a good family.

I was with you (not agreeing but following) until the end. "As an atheist, you have to believe that life just poofed into existence out of nothing." No bro. First, you have to explain "nothing". Nobody has made that claim and you know it. Or... should know it. I won't lecture you about evolution but re-think your statement. Further, the claim that things aren't "poofing" into existence all the time is ignorant. #1, we have evidence that things "poof" into existence here on Earth. Evolution. #2, given the amount of the galaxy that we have explored, don't you think it's a bit premature to just declare that life isn't "poofing" into existence all over? How are you allowed to declare that life hasn't evolved in other places when you haven't even explored .00001% of the other places? What will happen if/when we find life somewhere else? You'll resort to just claiming god did that too? Still.. with no evidence? Then, you'll have to explain the whole "image of god" thing too.

Atheists couldn't convince me that God doesn't exist. Had many discussions, and none of them were convincing.
Even with science, they can not be convincing. I have a degree in biology/ chemistry. The whole theory of the big bang is based on coincidence. If just 1 molecule was more or less (doesn't matter which one), the whole world would be different.
When I work with chemicals, there's a specific amount of whatever chemical/component etc. to get what you want. So I was in control. There's no discussion of the result being based on coincidence. Why can't atheists even see or admit that, yes the big bang could have happened BUT with a source of great knowledge (God) that controlled it all to get this result of the world.
I much rather believe that than believing we are all here based on coincidence.
I have never seen science as the opposite of God. I have always seen science as explaining how God created all these things/beings in the world. It's so complicated that we still don't understand it for a 100%.

Start by studying the life and death of Jesus from a historical perspective, and how flimsy all the theories are that attempt to explain his resurrection, how he appeared to hundreds of people, many of which willingly allowed themselves to be martyred in horrific ways because they were so convinced that he was God incarnate. The most popular explanation among non-Christian historians is, seriously, they were experiencing mass hallucinations/delusions. Assuming Jesus existed and was who he said he was, and indeed, died and was resurrected... well, I personally can't really find better evidence than that.
Beyond that, many are persuaded by apologetics and arguments that appeal to reason. These are easy to find online and on UA-cam.

You're arguing semantics regarding the definition of atheism. Regardless of that, the points that Ricky was making were 100% logical and explained brilliantly. I, by no means, denounce religion. It's simply a belief system that originated from the beginning of time where the human race was trying to find answers for everything that was occurring around them, much of which would be considered easily understood today. It was happening all over the world and the core reason why there are so many different gods and beliefs was due to geography. I'm not saying there is NOT a god, but we simply don't know and the current beliefs today stem from man-made stories that may have been "logical" back then, but would be silly today. One of Ricky's best points during that interview was about what would happen if all the beliefs were thrown out and humans had to start over...the stories, beliefs, religions...would all be different.
