- Almost Instant Frugal Gifts in A Jar
If you have already watched the video then you will understand the concept of frugal gifts in jars. In the video I have used mixes to make the work go a little quicker and then added to them to pep them up.
Spiced Pancake Mix
I used 2 cups of pancake mix that only require water added
To that I added a small pinch of ginger, cloves and allspice and ¼ tsp of cinnamon.
The attached tag has the mixing instructions right off the box
Sugar Cookies
I used the mix straight from the package and copied the mixing instructions on to the attached card.
Hot Chocolate for a Family of 6
The hot chocolate came from a can and then I added ½ cup of chocolate chips and a cup of mini marshmallows to the jar with instructions on the tag for preparation.
Mint Chip Fudge Brownies
Fudge Brownies box mix and to that I added ½ cup of mint chips. I included all the directions of the box mix on the card.

I get myself all messed up every Christmas season, I never seem to notice that depression has snuck in, then I’m here a few days before Christmas feeling worse than ever because I don’t have any gifts. You just helped me SO MUCH, as well as your friends in the comment section regarding the Friendship/Russian Tea. I am putting my grocery order together now and I think you all just saved Christmas for me. So much love and gratitude from Fort Worth Texas.
Hello Valerie, Christmas can be just so stressful and I believe firmly that anything we can do to take some of that stress away we need to do. I'm pleased to hear that something I've shared may help you feel like you can manage the holiday better. Brightest blessings. Merry Christmas 🎄
I hope you enjoyed your Christmas & look forward to next Christmas as well!!!❤
First time watcher, but I knew I had to hit that Subscribe button when you called mason jars "our GOOD jars"! LOL Great ideas. I have an older sister who lives alone, on a fixed income, and can always use help with groceries. This gave me some ideas for her because they will feel more like a present and less like a handout.
Thank you for subscribing Joan, and these gifts are not just easy for us but also practical for the people who we gift them to. Best wishes, Colleen
You sound like a lovely thoughtful sister. She's a lucky lady to have you in her life
I to first time watcher, and her mindful measurement cracked me up....that's how I roll too!
Great thought for your family by the way!
❤️
New subscriber thanks for the wonderful gift ideas
Especially good for those secret santa gifts that are so difficult. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you for watching!
YOU ARE “EXTREMELY-CREATIVE”
👏👏👏👏👏♥️👏👏👏👏👏
BEAUTIFUL, THOUGHTFUL GIFTS.
THANK YOU 😊 FOR SHARING…
GOD BLESS YOU 🙏
Wow, thank you!
Could add some red+ green M&M’s to the top of the sugar cookie mix.
Great idea Judi!
You’re being frugal and ingenious and imaginative.
Hello Rita, I am trying to remember that not everyone is as fortunate as I am. Thanks for watching.
Great tips. You can also use your old cards if they are enough and trace around the jar lid to make a decorative insert for the lid.
Great idea, thanks for sharing!
What a good idea! Vheers!
Great idea Janet! Thank you!
@@oursilvermoments6028 Frugal might be the word you were looking for.
But really, we are both “cheat-skates” and “cheap-skates” 😂😂😂😂. You are a girl after my own heart. Thanks for the great ideas.
Awe, thanks for watching and for your sweet comments! Its good to know I'm not alone.
I use the pasta jars for gifting I also spray paint the lids gold or any color I want. 💖 You are thrifty, sparing, frugal, reusing and you are saving. Very good ideas in this post.
Thank you Olivia and spray painting the lids is a great idea as well. Cheers, Colleen
I would be delighted to receive any of these as a gift! And I am now inspired to try a few myself as gifts. Thank you from Texas!
Thank you for the kind comments 🥰
I would add a little bag of red/green sprinkles or m&m's since there is a little extra space in the jar. Would be a cute little add on.
Yes, that would be a perfect add-on. Thank you!
I like those big silver jingle bells 😁👍
Thank you, they came from the dollar store :)
in the 70s we used to make a gift mix for an orange spice tea using Tang, instant Lipton tea and probably more, does anyone remember this? Would love to add this to these fun mix in a jar ideas here.
I don't remember that but I'm guessing it was really good :)
Look up Spiced Tea mix w/tang. There are some recipes online
Oh wow I remember drinking that as a kid!
it's called russian tea and it is so good in the winter
Sounds really good. I haven't seen tang in a long time. I love that stuff.
Love these!! And they look like you are a mighty fine crafter to me!! 💞🙏🏼💞
Oh Connie you crack me up😂! I see myself reflected and we are so much alike! Bet you have a huge box of receipes collected over the years hanging around in the closet! Confess!
Oh Gwendolyn, its like we are twins....hahaha, I have boxes of slips of recipes. Most I've never made but they sounded good at the time I copied them. Best wishes, Colleen
What great ideas you have
Thank you, I hope they are useful to you!
Nothing wrong with giving the gift of your time and something you put together for a family member or friend. “Things” are so expensive today and maybe going back to the old school way of giving gifts with thought and time might just humble us back in to a mindset of giving thanks.
And times just seem to be getting tighter and tighter so we definitely need to be thinking of simple gifts from the heart. Blessings, Colleen
You know? This is a true moment of: "It's the thought that counts."
It doesn't matter how frugal or thrifty you are. It matters and what counts, is that someone means enough for you to create something special for them.
And let me just say? When someone remembers you, no matter what time of year? You just brought them incredible happiness.
Thank you for your video. I'm a subscriber
Hello, thank you for your thoughtful comments. I couldn't agree more I think that giving people that even a simple gift can mean the world to them and if I can do that for someone else then I it brings such happiness to me. Thanks for subscribing. Colleen
Thanks for sharing Colleen. I'm dating myself here..... I remember Mom and Dad talking about when they were children receiving an orange and a homemade gift (mitt, hat, scarf socks, or similar items) for Christmas was a big deal. The whole family would gather for a great Christmas dinner, then another gathering for a New Year's dinner a week later. Then, poof, into the crazy buy, buy, buy gifts. I don't think that I'm alone when I realized just how commercial Christmas had become. Christmas cards became a big deal. Pick up the phone and call them instead. Your gift ideas are excellent. You hit the nail on the head. 'You took the time to put together a gift that the recipient will enjoy.' .Merry Christmas Colleen M
Hello Marn, If your dating yourself then I am right with you! We used to be excited to get a pair of homemade mitts from Grandma Cuffling for Christmas. And My other grandma used to have us dig up the winter apples on Christmas eve day and then she put them in our stocking for Christmas morning and we couldn't have been more excited. Blessings and best wishes, Colleen
Great ideas! Try adding some powdered creamer to the cocoa mix - it bumps up the flavor!
Hi Mary, that would bump it up for sure. Great idea, thank you!
and a dash of cinnamon, to amp up the flavor!
Brilliant ideas! Thank you! Running to Lidl’s supermarket NOW. Today is their day on 10 for $10 which includes pancake mix! Wow, I can make a personalized gift for under $3. Thank you again for the ideas.
Your welcome, im glad to be able to inspire people. Cheers, Colleen
Wow Coleen what a great idea for teachers gifts under $5
Thank you, I am glad that you find this video useful. Best wishes, Colleen
Great idea and a pretty little gift ! In the sugar cookie jar I might have added a small ziplock bag with some colored sugar to decorate the cookies with ! I think every jar was a great treat !! Thank you for these !
Hello Bridget, thank you for watching and I think they make great little gifts. And there are so many more options once you start making them. Cheers, Colleen
Frugal !! I love it !!
Thank you for watching Laura! Colleen
Frugal, you are being frugal. I love learning new 'frugal' ways to make lovely gifts! If you spend your time, and imagination, on creating a gift for someone, I don't think it's cheating at all. :) Thank you for sharing these great ideas with us!
Thank you! I think its frugal too and I know I would be thrilled to receive a gift like these. Cheers, Colleen
I love making gift jars. Spiced tea mix, hot chocolate, instant coffee with creamer and various additions, I thought I had made them all. But…. That Spiced Pancake Mix is a new one on me and this will be my gifts to my neighbors this year. I have some tiny whisks to tie on and I’m set. Thank you so much from your neighbor in Washington State, Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas 🎄 Linda! Thank you for being part of the Silver Moments Community!
You and I would get along pretty good I do believe! I love making and giving but can't do all the things I used to, so short cuts make it just as good and let's people know you care! God bless and Merry CHRISTmas! Melissa from NC USA❤️🎄
I bet we would get along famously and I am glad to know this may have been helpful for you. Merry CHRISTmas to you as well ❤
Oh my goodness 😳. Such great gift ideas! Thanks for this wonderful tip!
You're welcome Pamela, thanks for continuing to watch this channel. Best wishes, Colleen
I like you because you are real and not all staged. Down to earth!
Using up from a craft stash is always frugal and helpful. Friends will appreciate the creativity.
Thank you Dawn! I hope it inspired others to use theirs as well!
You made it to 12,000 🎊 congratulations! 💐 Thank you for sharing 🙏🇺🇲
Yahoo! Tbats what I was trying for before Christmas and everyone here made it happen. Thank you so much!
I absolutely love these!! I think anyone would love to receive a gift like this!! I remember as a child many women making homemade gifts......so special!! You are so fun to watch!! You have a great personality! Love your sense of humor!
Thank you for your kind comments! I really appreciate you watching! Cheers, Colleen
I enjoyed this video!
Excellent, thank you!
Thank you for this video. I think you and I are in the same generation. I save all sorts of containers for just this reason! I have a renewed sense of inspiration. Also grateful that you're a fellow Canadian, so products are generally available Canada wide. Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Crystal!
I think these are incredibly thoughtful. Anyone would be pleased to receive these. Good job!
Thank you Tami!
I wish I could get away with doing something like this, my Daughter has got me a new king mattress, a blanket ladder and something as a surprise for Christmas so I don't think I would get away with it, one of my friends has just got me £100 bottle of perfume so no luck there, I wouldn't get away with it with any of my family and friends.... they would think I was pulling their leg.
Great ideas, thank you for sharing. Hi from Melbourne Australia
Thanks so much. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, your family and ALL viewers
I like that you’re “winging” it💕
Thanks Kathy 😊 💕
I love making these types of gifts and I also love receiving them too. I think whenever i can make an inexpensive gift and use items i already have gives me a wonderful feeling of accomplishing something special that I am able to share.
Couldn't agree with you more. Such a good feeling!
Great ideas ! The wires will pull out of the ribbon.
Thank you, someone else pointed that out as well and when I drag that box off goodies out next I will be doing that. Cheers, Colleen
Frugal,adorable,and thoughtful gifts.
Thanks for sharing. 😊
Your welcome! Thanks for watching!
Good idea taking the wire off! Will be copying some of these ideas! Cheers Colleen!...Guess who will be going to the sales and making a christmas bits and bobs box thanks to our lovely Colleen! 😊😊😊
Awe, thank you its wonderful when you can inspire someone else. 🥰
The wire pulls right out, as well, if you want the full width!
Thank you for the great ideas! Merry Christmas to you from North Carolina USA!!!
Thank you Joanne, I sure hope rhe ideas are helpful to you during this Christmas 🎄 season. Cheers, Colleen
Absolutely perfect recipes, I love your ideas, my gang(in their 30s now) are getting preserves and cookies in a jar, and they are happy about that. Thanks from Canada.
I love to give preserves in jars to my family and I bet I stand over them a little bit and say you know if you would like to have those jars refilled you have to return them. Because I want to get my jars back but I'm really happy to share the contents with them. Thanks of watching! Colleen
I like that pancake mix..♥️
Its really good and if you find the spices not strong enough you can double them up. ❤
I love all of these ideas, thank you so much for sharing! I especially love the idea of using the napkin on top of the jar. I definitely am holding onto my canning jars, but I have several pasta sauce jars that use a regular canning lid and ring. The hot cocoa and the sugar cookies have inspired me!
Excellent! I hoped they would inspire people to think outside the box. Best wishes, Colleen
I love these ideas. I call it smart.
Thank you Vicki I'm glad you think that these ideas are smart I do too! Take care, Colleen
I have just found your channel and I am loving your ideas and recipes. Thank you from North Yorkshire in England.

Very cute! Thrifty and frugal . 🎄🎁🎄 Merry Christmas ☃️
Merry Christmas 🎄 to you!
saw this video & had to subscribe. Love these ideas. I think the sugar cookies and hot chocolate ones would be a great idea for my grandkids. Think I'll add a couple Cinnamon sticks on the outside of the hot chocolate jar as well. Thanks for the frugal gift giving ideas.
You are most welcome, im happy that you find the ideas useful! Best wishes, Colleen
Good idea! Might have to copy that one!
@@witcherwoo8938 Just go pound shop hun.
@@irenemorley75 not much in pound shops these days in the UK

You are being creative with your digging around and using what you have!😁🎄⛄
Hello Donna, I was raised in the country and it wasn't always practical to go to town to pick up a small something so we had to be creative.
Fun ideas! Thank you!
Thank you Valorie!

🥰
Lovely! 👍
Really liked the decorating ideas
These are all great!! Who doesn't love yummy goodness for Christmas!!
Exactly!
I can’t count how many times my husband I will get a late night sweet tooth and wish we had something to pop in the oven. I have lots of friends that are empty nesters I think they will all appreciate these!
But wonderful gifts for single older people, but you’re giving up a jar which is hard to come by. The dollar store has beautiful cheap jars and bottles that would work. I would say we’re being prepared! Come to think of it, I’d be just as happy with the jar as I would the goodies inside! Happy Holidays! I really enjoy your practical ideas clear instruction and your human ness.
Hello Cindy, I know that they have been useful for me in the past and everytime I have given one they have been well received. There are lots of options at the dollar store for vessels to hold these mixes but I was trying to be frugal. Some of my favorite Christmas gifts are ones that the little kids have given me over the years. Made feom painted macaroni 🥰 thanks for your sweet comments. Cheers, Colleen
@@oursilvermoments6028 much better than paying so much for expensive gifts, Imean something's are just outrageous
I know what you mean. I still have tissue paper peonies in a colored rice covered salmon can my son made me for Mother’s Day 1975. I smile every time I see it.
Totally enjoyed your video and found it to be so inspiring. I've already made up a batch of the spiced pancake mix for a gift, using things that I already had at home. 🎄
That is excellent Jen! Best wishes, Colleen
how very thoughtful, creative, and generous. Merry Christmas
Happy holidays!
Great ideas, all of them. I knew you were in Canada when I saw the Compliments pancake mix 😉. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Karen ❤️
The most time-consuming part, is copying the recipe on to the gift tag. Some great ideas, thank you

Hello Dollie, thank you for watching!
That is a clever idea for a gift. If only I was willing to give up one of my canning jars. I'm sure I can find a jar somewhere. Merry Christmas.
Yes, definitely be looking for pasta jars or mayonnaise jars for these gifting ideas. Cheers, Colleen
"Let's be mindful" lol...love it! What a practical neat lady you are, such a fun personality!
Great ideas, yes even the fudge pack to brownies, it's about the heartfelt meaning which you obviously have! Thank you for inspiration! After seeing this my mind is clicking of how these could be done year round for fun unique gifts.
Oh ps ...
It looks like u put some clear plastic behind your mixer to keep splashes from going in your tile... brilliant!!!!
Hello Tammy, thank you for your kind comments and for joining US here on this channel I really appreciate you being here. I would like to take credit for the clear plastic behind my mixer to keep the splashes from getting on the tile but that's not the case my tiles have a high gloss finish on them but that would be a good idea otherwise thanks so much. Colleen
Good ideas. Like that very much .Thanks
I like to add a little cayenne pepper to my hot chocolate to make "Mexican hot chocolate" the little bit of heat is perfect touch of flavor.
I have never made it with cayenne pepper but I have seen recipes for it. I will have to give that a try. Thanks for watching.
Oh my goodness what a great teacher, bus driver gift
Hello Sharon, yes these make wonderful teacher bus driver gifts that I I think they'd be wonderful for anybody that you want to remember and that you don't have the budget to spend a lot of money on. And even if you did have a lot of money I think that people would still enjoy receiving these gifts because it is the little things and the thought that counts. Colleen
@@oursilvermoments6028 my reasoning was I have 2 grandsons 1st & 2nd grade and although they are special needs, they could pour ingredients in a funnel. And present their teacher & bus driver with something THEY made. And that's a big deal for them and even the special educators that work hard everyday with them. They are our families hero's. Enough of that I just wanted to let you know where my comment was coming from. Wow just thought how special to have them put a handprint on the jar. Have a very blessed holiday.
Hello Sharon, I too have 2 grandsons, twins who are autistic and yes this would be something one of them could do and they would feel so excited about that. Excellent! Merry Christmas 🎄

Great for last-minute gifts for school teachers, neighbours, co-workers, etc. I enjoyed this. Thanks for posting! Kristen in Ontario Canada.
Thank you Kristen, I think these are all great ideas.
I use Classico Pasta Sauce all the time. I save the jars which are 650 ml until I have at least a dozen. I then post them for free on Kijjii. There are even preserving lids that can be purchased for these actual mason jars by the individuals that take them. They can also be used for gifts like these.
They would be perfect for gifts like these. And what a great thing you do by posting them for free.
