Starting Your New Sketchbook

Today's Draw Tip is such a habit for me, that I would almost forget to share it with you.
When I start a new sketchbook, I always put my contact details on the first page. It's a habit, or maybe even more of a ritual.
I encourage you to do this too.
In case you lose your sketchbook somehow, then at least the person who finds it knows how to contact you, and will hopefully help getting the sketchbook back to you. I know a few sketchers who have gotten their sketchbooks back this way after accidentally leaving it on public transport. And there are a lot more sketchers who never retrieved their misplaced sketchbooks, because they hadn't put their contact details in it.
Not so long ago, I left a case of beautiful colored pencils on the train and never got them back, so since then I also keep a business card with my details in my pencil cases.
Another benefit of filling your first page with your name and contact details, is that you can dive right into the new sketchbook without overthinking. It’s an opportunity for you and your sketchbook to get acquainted. You’ll find out how your materials behave on its paper and you can get used to the format and size.

I add a little inducement to the front pages of my sketchbooks. Along with my contact details I add that if my sketchbook is returned to me, I will give the finder a sketchbook of their own.

I particularly like the way you explain exactly how I do my sketches when you say
"Drawing shape next to shape, spiralling my way outwards on the page. Little by little, from that centre point things come together and eventually unite to form a whole image".

Hi Koosje, thanks for these great tips! Could you please do a quick flip trough your book in one of your future videos? Also, is the book sent from the UK? I always have unpleasent tax surprises when I receive things from UK since the Brexit.
From the link, it'll be printed and shipped when you order it from some British book place. Says it'll take 2-6 weeks for it to show up on Amazon. Right now the only way to get it is from the link . *Not currently in any bookstore.* EDIT:. It ships FROM Peterborough, UK. From subsequent comment

I also think that the actual book store makes the delivery fron UK, but sometimes it happens that the store delivers also from elsewhere even if they have the word British in their name.
I ordered mine from the Great British Book shop Peterborough UK.
Thanks for addressing this bothersome issue!! Gggrrrr. I read somewhere else that someone said it would be 9.50 euro postage UK to Germany (honestly, that's just nuts) so they are holding on for other suppliers to be available. I think I might wait and see too, so I'm going to have to be patient. PS I just looked at the order site... I would be charged £10.36 extra to ship to Italy where I am. 😧

Can't wait to get a copy of the book! A question - is there any way to get a signed card to affix in the front of the book? I know you cannot sign them, as they're print-on-demand, but a signature in the book would make it even MORE special! Just a thought for your many Koosje-groupies! Thanks!
