    PG’s Chris Kies hangs with The Wild Feathers’ Ricky Young, Taylor Burns, Daniel Donato, and Joel King before their sold-out Ryman gig to chat about beat-up Gibson acoustics, road-worn hollowbodies, dreamy Telecasters, and rugged pawnshop basses.
    Lead singer/guitarist Ricky Young dabbles in the electric world, but for the sold-out show at the church of country music he went strictly acoustic. Seen above is his “A-Team”-a 2000s Gibson Custom Shop Southern Jumbo. He’s only had it about two years, but claims to have logged over 200 gigs with it so far.
    Guitarist Taylor Burns believes playing onstage is like going into battle, so his most trusted ally is his stock 2007 Gibson Custom Nashville 1963 Historic Block ES-335 reissue. He does own a vintage ’60s 335, but he feels this one plays better and stays in tune longer.
    Guitar-slinging assassin Daniel Donato joined the band this year as lead guitarist and only needed this Fender Custom Shop ’63 Telecaster to rock the Ryman. He’s swapped in a Glendale Guitars bridge plate because it allows him to emulate Don Rich by picking closer to the saddles for more dynamic playing and tones. Another upgrade he opted for was implementing Emerson saddles because they’re indestructible and help intonation issues. And he also dropped in a pair of Seymour Duncan pickups-a BG1400 neck pickup and an Antiquity I bridge model. Donato uses Ernie Ball Cobalt .010-.046 strings.

    It's cool that we get to see all their rig but it would be cooler if we could hear it as they explain.

      The Ryman doesn't allow sound because of their tight pre-show limitations (only reserved for band's soundcheck after 4:30 pm because they allow tours of the venue until that point). Sorry, but trust us, we try to get every band to plug in.

    Nice rundown, PG! I have a request: I saw a Guitar Center Session on Direct TV with Dwight Yoakum. His lead guitar player had an absolutely smokin' tone.

    Those projector amps sound good but cost way more than they need to... but if you can afford it, go for it. Love that Princeton for sure. Daniel is THE player in this band. Killer tone and playing. Super nice guy also.

    Do original frets on a custom shop Tele warrant a "wow" ?
    Apparently so.

    • @premierguitar
      @premierguitar  8 років тому +3

      Daniel used to play over a multiple shows a night (on top of any other touring) at Robert's on Broadway so we're guessing Chris was surprised for as much stage time that Tele has seen that those frets are still holding up. Please excuse is excessive excitement-he's a fret man.

    I listened to this band for their music. Taylor can take his obscenity and deep thought political commentary and stick it. I could care less what he thinks about our President. Any more of that and I'll be listening to somebody else.

    I watched about dozen of your videos and really like what you guys are doing and sound great together HOWEVER, You could have left the NOT so funny Trump message off the back of your guitar and kept your thought to yourself as I am a Trump supporter and NOT a fan of yours after right NOW. Good Riddance !!

      sensitive? look where politics got the Dixie Chicks! Actually I don't go to movies either because 75% of the Actors are liberal morons! Plus I have some relatives I could care less about because of their Hillary relationship.
      Another person I can not stand is Springsteen! He had some good music but his liberalism is more than I can handle.These people would do much better if they would learn to keep politics separate from their carers. I wish them well if they continue down the same path although it seems that just one of them is outspoken about Trump.

    Chris Kies does a great job with these, always asks good questions but i gave it a thumbs down because of the political message. People can have opinions, i am not a huge fan of Trump so don't start in on me here. Using vulgar language in reference to our President is just dumb. Did we do this with Obama? No. And i don't agree with many politicians on anything. Lets talk about the love of music and guitars and gear and take politics out. No one cares what i think or you think about it. It has little or no bearing on my life. Sorry....just so tired of all the negative crap. Not cool.
