Cool rig, I think 1/18 scale is the sweet spot for mini crawlers/ trail trucks. 1/24 too small and underpowered . 1/18 you can run indoors when weather is bad but still take outside if you want. And yes I think there’s room for more , gives the customer more options and keeps other manufacturers on their toes . Great review Matt, look forward to the upgrades video 👍
Gotta give redcat props, if the aftermarket isn’t gonna support them, then damnit they are supporting themselves. Unfortunate gen 9 doesn’t have more aftermarket support Redcat is RC for the common man lol
SOMEBODY NEEDS TO JUST DO A MINI BUILDERS KIT!!!!!! Plenty of stuff out there to build with redcat! You would be the first and I would gladly buy one!!!!!!
Very very anxious to see your upgrade video. I will be checking my local hobby store for inventory on this little rig. If they’ve got them I’m getting one!!
The price point is the biggest feature. For $100 you get alot plus an LCGish flat rail chassis with some shock mounting. Redcat did great on this one. Cant wait for the next two drops this month.
That’s awesome! $100 how can you complain! Fender flair’s are goofy but that’s easy fix. Cool they came out with tons of upgrades. Awesome vid as always!,👍🏼
I dont think I'll buy it. But that's more to do with my vision and small scale don't work well together. Haha. That aside. Redcat did a great job here Not so good electronics... easy fix. Almost grabbed this with the upgrades but, I opted for the FX118 instead. I was too hype about the brushless and FOC tech. Now if I introduce someone to crawling... I could get this one too ;)
I love Redcat and have a modded Gen 8. And this Ascent 18 is a great price form beginner's but it doesn't grab me enough, for me to to replace any of my FMS's or SCX 24's. 👍🏴
I’m excited for this truck. I think they had a micro crawler wayyyy back in the day (RedCat Sumo) and this is so much better for what is a somewhat saturated market. Can’t beat $100 for the price either. I’ll be adding one to my fleet!
Definitely pre-ordering one of these with a few brass pieces! From what I have seen I am very impressed and loves the mini kaiju looking body. Do you have any suggestions one thr route you would go if you were to go with a brushless system for it? Off subject but congrats on being the only youtuber that figured out the gyro one the Omni Terminator! People are sending them to your video to learn how to set it up! Love ya long time!
Wow, no kidding, huh? I just did a run with the gyro functioning, and it makes the Terminator so much easier to control. Highly recommend getting that version! As for a brushless system on the Ascent 18, I'd likely go Furitek.
@scalebuildersguild thanks for the reply! I am still kind of a new sub(not sure how I have missed your channel so long) so cool how you take so much time responding to most of your subs! Thanks man!
Red cat is the heel nipper the other companies need. They do awesome work, but they have to keep pushing because red cat is always right there and pushing themselves. I love that they're usually at a lower price point too. That said, I don't see the draw... The small scale stuff bounces like Walmart or radio shack toy RCs, they're mostly plastic so there's nothing to make the suspension work. 10th scale and larger is where I stick, however I'm into 12th scale chassis to make more realistic swb rigs...I'll probably put my Tamiya YJ hard body on a 12th scale chassis because it's very hard to find a 10th scale in anything near that wheelbase. Either way, I always click on a SBG video!
I am digging what Redcat is doing. Its fun to see what different reviewers say, as Greg didn't think it was underpowered... Maybe you have been hanging out with Josh too much. Lol.
Redcat nearly have all the pieces together but the engineering design is still unrefined. Like its big brother it rides very high for a crawler and those c hubs are just wild. For price and components though, well done. Another example of a cheap truck from them so you can try the hobby, and then buy another more refined brand if the bug bites.
I like these "smaller" "18th" scale rigs. I like the size of the SCX24's. Some of the 18th rigs are kinda big and if you've got a track built for 24th, those are a bit too big. This one looks like it would be at home on a 24th scale crawl course. $99 bucks is pretty cheap for you guys in the States. Interested to see if these catch on and the aftermarket guys jump in on it. Looks like there's not much room to lower it with those high shock towers. And I wonder if articulation is going to be limited with the pitched rails making the servo space tight.
@@scalebuildersguildVery good! Stealth Canadian! LOL! I assumed US due to you're price reference, but I guess it makes sense as your biggest audience is down there.

Will have to skip this one. You guys over there are so lucky with all the different choices, after market support and good prizes over there.
It's nice and inexpensive but... Redcat is very very hard to find on the European market and as I live in Europe, I will not be able to get it. Just like for the 1/10, I couldn't get one so I took an rc ecto element instead and for the 1/18 well, I'm going to stay with traxxas...
