- NOTE!!! Updates for 5.1+
1) 1:25 - To load same level with the chairs, go to File-Open Level, and choose All/Content/StarterContent/Maps/Minimal_Default.
2) 28:28 - You'll "rt-click, CINEMATICS, level sequence" instead of "animation, level sequence"
If you want to make a short film in UE5, but not sure where to start... then this tutorial is for you! We'll start a new project, learn the interface, grab some free characters and assets, "animate" them, toss in some cameras, and output a short film - it's that easy!
When you are done, post your short on UA-cam and add a link in the comments! C'mon, it's just for fun, the sillier the better.... can't expect too much for 60 minutes, we'll keep the bar low :)

I watched tons of UE tutorials and I want to say that you are a hidden gem. Your teaching skills are on top. Your approach, your pacing, your foresight on what to say, your humor, your voice. I want to study further with you. I hope you are planning on making a paid course, because I want to buy one
Wow, thanks a bunch for the feedback, always great to hear that! I don't have plans for any paid courses, but I will keep rolling out free ones here on YT when I get the chance. Keep your eyes on the channel :)
I watched tons of videos as well, but this one is so well made that I really wouldn't have problem with paying for such a course. Great comment, hope he will make more videos like this!! will defo keep an eye on this channel.
Yeah most tutorials on youtube are awful. This guy is a diamond in a mountain of shit.
Thanks for pinning this comment :)
You forgot to say, “…and also, I love you.”💕 🤣😆 Yes-me too! When I looked at his main YT page, I immediately started looking for a _’Purchase’_ button because I totally wanted to sign up for the course! 😃

Thank you so much!
Definitely NOT clickbait. This taught me how to give my own tutorials.
#1 Pump the breaks and get a person to just interact with the interface. Teaching guitar helped me learn this.
Yup, gotta do some drives around the block before hitting the freeway 😀
OMG, man, this is exactly the tutorial I've been wishing to find for months. This is pure gold!!
So glad to hear it, thanks!!
You’re an excellent teacher! The pace of the video was on point.
damn, just did this video step by step. started at 9pm... just finished now at 11:30, about to view the render. thank you! and to anyone on the fence, try it out, this is probably the best unreal engine tutorial for filmmakers. literal hidden gem!!
Glad you liked it, thanks for positive feedback!
Can't thank you enough for this incredible, easy-to-follow, and relaxing intro!
This was so easy to understand and actually had my total attention. I feel like I've learned so much in so little lol. Would love to see more tutorials, guide us into what is needed to learn next! Thank you so much! Feels good to want to create again.
That's great! Yeah, jump right in there and start making stuff, it's fun!
Might be the most useful beginner video I've see yet. Thx
It is a perfect tutorial. Simple, Easy that doesn't overwhelm the beginners but rather makes them excited. Great work
Dude thank you for demystifying so much in a concise and digestible manner. Im so pumped to make some goofy stuff

You sir, are a champion. Clear, concise and to the point.

This is by far the best tutorial on YT for beginners. I've been getting frustrated watching tons of others, moving their mouse's too fast, skipping steps or just being unclear. Excellent job!
Thanks!! Glad it was helpful!
This was really helpful and incredibly easy to follow. Thank you for putting this together and sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
You’re a great teacher!!!! Much more than I expected.. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all these.. am super grateful
Wow, thank you!
You sir... are an absolute saint. Bro I've been searching for a tutorial like yours for a long time. PLEASE keep doing these. I've learned more from you than most Unreal Tutorials I've watched on UA-cam. You make things more digestible and easier to understand, makes learning Unreal Engine less daunting. Thank you! You are now my Go-To Channel for learning Unreal Engine.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll try to get more up soon, this helps the motivation for sure 😀
Great knowledge and being able to share it understandably is an art that you mastered!
Everything I wanted to know in an hour! This was great.
I also appreciate the fact that you don't assume that a beginner always knows were to click.
Thanks Mario for the great feedback!
Thank You for this it's a great help to have the animations and multiple cameras explained and what is happening when stuff is done out of order. Very Nice! I have this as a reference now.
Glad it was helpful!
Fabulous Tut!!! Really like the way you are always on track 👍
Thanks!!
best tutorial I've every watched for UE. Thank you!
Thank you - very well put together!
This is the best UE starter tutorial I've seen for newbies like myself! Thanks so much!
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for this comprehensive tutorial. It's fantastic!
Dude, THANK YOU so much for this! I have wanted to do machinima for years, and never found a good/easy program and - most importantly - CONCISE tutorial. THANK YOU. Bless you!
Glad I could help!
Amazing instruction. The best one I've ever seen for UE5.
Wow, thanks!
Oh boy that was fun! Such a straight forward tutorial - excellent 👍
Great to hear!!
Best tutorial out there, yours should be right on top at the search.
Thanks Jenya, it's making its way up the list :)
FYI: idk if there's already a comment, but here's this:
This is my first time, and it took me half a minute to realize that at 56:20, you need a Post Process Volume in order to do the Exposure settings. Volumes are in the Place Actors window on the right side of the tabs. Then you can start messing with the Post Process stuff.
I say this because when he said to search for post process, it didn't pop up, so I dug around a little bit.
There is a postprocess volume in the assetsville town demonstration already, but you bring up a good point - for building a level from scratch, or other random projects you may find, they may not have one in there by default, it needs to be added.
I watched 100s of hours of unity tutorials over the years, yours is the first unreal tutorial i watched and it was more well spoken, concise and intelligently broken down than any and all of those youtubers/teachers combined. Very well done.
Awww, thanks!!!
This guy's desktop 😂😂😂😂
This was really great! I've been wanting to try out Unreal for film making for a while now. Your video was very well done and looking forward to watching more of them from you. Clear and to the point. An excellent jumping off point. THANK YOU!!!
Thanks, looking to continue with more content when I can!
Seriously, I learned more in the hour here than I have trying to gut it through the "zero to hero" type courses... you're an excellent instructor. I have my first short film and most importantly, I had fun making it. Amazing tutorial, thank you!
That’s great!!!
This is what I thought sims "The Movies" was going to be all those years ago. Im excited to dig into Unreal and your tutorial really helped. Thanks dude. Subbed.
That’s great!!
Brilliant tutorial! Great structuring and lots of details that are easy to follow. Thanks! :)
You're very welcome!
You are an amazing teacher. Thank you for making this, really great stuff!
You're very welcome!
You are so clear and proper in explanation. Thank you very much!
You’re welcome!
Finally someone to start clearly explain few, but crucial details about starting with Cinematics and Sequencer . Creating one shot, two shots, putting them together and WHEN and HOW the camera is switching from one to another etc. VERY useful video !
THANKS JC !
You're quite welcome! Yeah, level sequences can be tough for new folks so I try to keep it simple in the beginning - plenty of complexity to be added later, ha!
@@3dJC Please do ! 💪 If may I suggest ... If it's possible do your magic explanation for this 😁 : please teach us some more character interaction in the level, for example the character to do something, like being hit by a car or something ( I believe that could be done with the EVENTS option ? ) . Thanks again mate, waiting for your next Tut ! ✌️
Thank you so much. The best Unreal video i ever saw !! subscribed
Welcome!
Thanks a lot for this video. This is the most comprehensive thing I found until now and gave me all the information that I needed to start fiddling with this incredible tool.
That’s great!! Have fun fiddling!
So cool. You’ve made this less intimidating. Great teaching 👍. Thanks.
Brilliant, and so well delivered, thank you mate, just what I was hoping to find, I'm now able to leave the tutorial rabbit hole.

Glad to have you on board!!
Best tutorial on this topic by far (and I've watched dozens!) thanks
Great to hear!
By far the most useful tutorial I have found so far. After watching many good videos where content creators cover every single detail (great for learning), your video moves at a quick pace. I love it. I learned a lot in little time. Thank you. I subscribed.
Great to hear!
As someone totally new to Unreal this was very helpful. Thanks.
Perfect!!! Great to hear!
This was extremely helpful as an introduction. Thank you very much.

Brilliantly explained!!
this is pure gold! ...awesome in every aspect as others already said! thx a lot!
Thanks Libor, always love to hear it again and again haha!!
Excellent lesson, thanks. At the moment I'm hoping to make a video sequence ('cinematic') rather than a game, and this is EXACTLY the info. I need to see right now.
Excellent!
Congratulations from Brazil! This is the best video for learning about how to make a film in UE.
Wow, thanks, I mean, obrigado!!
Brushed off "fighting with your lighting" like it was nothing at all. Great vid.
Ha ha, yeah, you're right - I'm not so artsy that way... "Place lights, done"
great tutorial, simple to follow, no fluff. good stuff. look forward to more tutorials
More to come in 2023 for sure!
Man your videos are so adictive. It's 3 in the morning, my eyes are red but still want to see more. With this only video you cleared away questions I have had for ages.
Here is a suggestion for future videos: how can I export assets and animation from Blender to Unreal? I know there are plenty of videos and tutorials out there, but you add that special 'teaching' approach where everything becomes easily understandable.
Keep it up doing more of this!
Thanks for the compliments! Actually, I'm teaching Blender next term so I should be able to work on a Blender -> UE video soon, thanks for the idea!! Now get some sleep :)
You, sir, are a born teacher.
Thanks!!
@@3dJC I've been using Blender a long time, and teaching it, a bit.. I'm having my first real look at UE, which is, of course, overwhelming. I'd hate to make you self conscious. But you focus really well, filter out the salient features really well. You seem to have planned really well. While you acknowledge that you're skipping detail, (you have to,) you lighten the subject, and reassure really well. I've no hesitation in subscribing, and I hope your teaching skill rewards you really well, one day, if not already.
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!!!!
best tutorial!! thanks!!

It was so cool and easy to learn, thank you so much !
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Finally someone put it all together properly!
You’re welcome!!
This is a brilliantly great sequencer tutorial.
Thanks! I'm a big fan of explaining sequencer to folks as it can be easily confusing if taught poorly...
Thank you mate. Ok took me more than 1 hour to work for first time this tutorial today. But from zero skills, to adding a character, animation, cameras and exporting the clip time flew today. As finishing this message, going to make a new sequence to tweak the whole scene for training purposes. Again thank you.
Fantastic!
Wow. Fantastic. I have a really ambitious project of making a scene of me singing my music and this inspired me to at least try. Thanks so much.
Go for it!
Thanks for this tutorial. You got a new subscriber. You just opened my mind to endless possibilities.
Awesome! Thank you!

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man love you video❤, enjoyed every bit of it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The only other dude who did this type of tutorial took 5 hours and wasn't nearly as thorough. Most of that time was him dicking around getting assets. Thanks for being to the point and prioritizing our time!
Thanks! I’m a big fan of efficiency 😀
can't help to give you two thumb up👍👍. Very practical and easy to follow .
Love to hear that - thanks!!
very nice sir, really helpful thanks.
