  • Got hit with a copyright, so we're back with modifications! Enjoy a little live music action from a gig in downtown San Diego with ‪@SammyListoe‬ . It's not perfect but nothing in life is. Recorded on my phone, rig includes my 1964 Vox AC30 Super Twin + 1964 Fender spring reverb unit and guitars are my Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul '54 Custom and Rivolta Baritone. 90% of the gain tones you hear is from the amp by itself.
To learn more about the amp, and it's journey since I've owned it check out the playlist here: • Vintage JMI Vox AC30

That's it! That's THE sound, right on. Great to see your painstaking amp journey paid off. Are you running it at 245v with a step up transformer or are you just running it at 115v with the normal wall voltage?

Thanks! I biased it for normal 120v, heaters were within tolerance so I'm comfortable running it without a variac.

Very energetic and good tone. You need more cameras 📷 or someone with a mobile. 😂

😆 It was years before I had any pictures of me gigging, let alone video lol. Had to resort to setting my phone up on stage like a loser 🤣

I don't know if you should be flattered or angry. UA-cam's copyright system is FUCKED.

      It's quite annoying.

I agree . . . I was trying to get some of the guitar fills from Lyin Eyes by the Eagles as someone "uploaded" an Eagles concert from last year and I almost had it figured out and it was taken down due to "copyright infringements" . . . it was up for over a month . . . f*ng Don Henley most likely took the axe to it . . . damn a$$hat needs the money . .. yeah right . . .

Out of curiosity, what makes your AC30 your favorite amp? I've got a modern handwired AC30 and unfortunately my ears just don't get the the sound of the VOX and Alnico's. Now a Marshall with Greenbacks is heaven to my ears.

The JMI AC30's sound nothing like the modern ones unfortunately. Myriad of reasons why, but they're not really comparable. This amp is pure rock, from the moment it's making any noise on the top boost channel. Instant gain, and it cleans up better than any amp I've ever heard. Few get it until they hear this amp in person 🙂

@@YeatzeeGuitar Interesting, thanks for the rundown. Dang, sad they can't make them like the old ones. I feel like I wasted a ton of cash on my modern one.. I'm really tempted to rebuild mine following Lyle's recommendations for upgrades, maybe that will help..

@@dyamariv3628even then, a lot of the sound comes from the original speakers with their pulsonic cones, which are impossible until now to replicate

For sure, big part of the sound.
