That was a power move from both of you. Kudos, this is how you do things!
Agree, and +1 in the respect column for Rob especially. I gotta give him credit for starting a guitar company. A rough start, but that’s not all that uncommon, you’re trying to get raw materials and other hardware from the most fair distributors…. Going to have some bumps in the road.
mostly from rob's side tho
Hi Kelan, Dan here. Thanks for coming by the booth and doing the vid. Hope you had a great NAMM 🤘
that was an excellent presentation Dan, it looks like the Chapman guitars are evolving in a good way.
@@octopaul Was about to say that, looks like Rob is turning around but thought it was just me
He's a good sport, we can't take him that. It's nice that people you criticised respect you. It means they know you are fair and do well researched content
Except Rob didn't take it well. Rob responded like a child at the time. He's since grown up a lot. Which we can all be thankful for.
@@Keshro Yeah, he took it really poorly initially which in so many ways backfired and just brought even more heat on him. If he responded well or just didnt respons at all It would have gone a lot better for him.
Thankfully though the response from the community seems to have been a bucket of cold water and chappers seems to be taking a more mature approach now, which is good to see.
KDH may be a critic but he’s not biased or a moron, well researched always and tries both sides for understanding
I feel it’s all show with chappers though, he appears to be a good sport
@@BorisBidjanSaberi11 Exactly. Some of us spend money we don't really have in an effort to achieve a certain sound, either live or recorded. There's lots of variables involved and for decades before the internet and then GooTube, we were, and still are in large part, subject to the whims of fads and alleged "industry standards". Having anyone with the balls to call out a grift in spite of the impending backlash, is as welcome attribute.
Two things: 1. Well done Rob Chapman for welcoming KDH to his stand in this way. 2. Well done Chapman Guitars for such a cool looking range of guitars. And this is from someone who has never really taken to Rob's personality or liked Chapman guitars. I am impressed!
You're easily impressed then. What was Rob going to do? Yell and say sod off, while being videoed?
Yeah, have to agree with that.
Wow that was not as awkward as I expected turns out Rob is a good sport.
@@deaddoll1361 Sometimes "well done" simply entails acting like a normal decent blokes, which isn't a given these days.
@@deaddoll1361 can’t please everyone.
I appreciate them being good sports and you showcasing their upcoming products. Classy on both sides and I can certainly appreciate that.
We need a Chapman redemption arc. I don’t believe he is a bad guy, just made some bad decisions
"KDH, help me take this mask off. Just for once, let me look on you... with my own eyes"
I agree with you. Unfortunately, he just doesn't know how to, not act like a goose when he's on camera.
Rob killed a man. There's no coming back from that
@@castleanthrax1833 I mean I think after years of putting something of a character on for the audience, I guess it does become habit to a point?
wrong. bad guy.
Rob is at his core just a dude who loves guitar, I'm sure on some level he appreciates your critique because it keeps him on his toes
Rob is at his core just a -dude who loves guitar- used car salesman. I'm sure on some level he -appreciates your critique because it keeps him on his toes- wishes you didn't exist.
@@ChrisP3000x thats it
@Gary Coates, I laughed out loud at your comment. Surely you don't believe that?
He’s a bad narcissist
Also means he knows what to improve.
I used to watch Rob via Anderton’s and his own channel like many people. Then he started doing some things that were questionable and damaging, not only to his fans and customers, but was to himself and those around him. I didn’t totally stop watching like so many people who were mad, though, even when KDH showed us all the proof we needed. As an extremely fair reporter, it was KDH’s duty to inform - and he even tried to reach out to Rob for comment to give him a chance to respond and explain and undeservedly got some shit flung back at him just for doing his job. KDH would have done the same type of reporting no matter who it was, as a fair reporter. But anyway, I kept watching Rob’s channel because I was quietly rooting for Rob to overcome his worst enemy- himself.
Rob sorta dropped off sometime around the pandemic. He rarely posted anything for a long time. When he popped back onto UA-cam regularly over a year ago, it was like he was a totally new person - still silly, fun old Rob who had matured a great deal and was just looking for a fresh start.
I’ve been watching every video since his regular posts resumed. He has a beautiful family and life in Malta. He was going on business trips like visiting Seymour Duncan in the US. He started performing again with his latest band. Above all, Rob seems to have somehow managed to bring Chapman into a really good place (along with his business partners) despite the unfortunate circumstances that have been reported with their factories and guitar builders. Everyone thought Chapman Guitars would flop after Rabea left - but NAMM has proven that they’re in the best place they’re ever been. They have new signature models with some legit bands and guitar players, refreshed lines, and brand new models. They have an amazing team and have been upstanding professionals in everything they’ve done recently.
We don’t know what may have been going on in Rob’s life and behind the scenes to lead him to make some crappy choices and behave in a less than fitting manner, but he was never a bad person - we all go through some stuff that sometimes makes us do irrational things, and once we go all in, it’s hard to come back on top. I don’t say going through personal and professional crap is an excuse for his behavior, but it might explain. KDH had to report the facts because that’s what he does here on UA-cam, and maybe it gave Rob pause for thought when things weren’t going so well for him and helped him quietly turn things around for himself and his company. When I heard KDH was also going to NAMM, I knew both would shake hands and play nice . . . I had no doubt of it, in fact.
I’m speculating some of the above, but that’s my take based on what I’ve seen. I hope the guitar community will give Rob and Chapman Guitars another chance. I hope that Rob and KDH will turn this into something positive. Maybe Rob can formally apologize to some of the people he hurt online and in real life in his past - he doesn’t owe us explanations, but apologies go a long way. Maybe these two knuckleheads can even work together on some UA-cam projects or have their bands do a few shows together. I would love that, actually.
💯
I agree with what I think you're hinting at. During some of the andertons videos you're talking about, there was some very noticeable signs, giant red flags if you've ever spent time around someone with that issue and jt was clearly impacting his work and life. I do wonder if that's why Andertons split off from him. But it seems like he's got on top of it and is enjoying life. All power to him.
@@robinr22 I “think” he went to Malta because his wife’s family is from there. Like I said, I’m purely speculating a lot of this from my vantage point. I wasn’t likely closely following him specifically until I found the Anderton’s channel in early 2020. I would imagine that his behavior may have affect his personal and professional relationships - or maybe not. Like I said, he owes us no explanations for whatever he went through. All I know is that I’m glad he seems to be in a much better place these days. It’s wonderful that he got past whatever happened, and hopefully he will continue on a good path and always do the right thing as best as possible from here on out. I have faith that he can do really great things! 👍🏻
Agreed. If you live long enough, you’ll find that there are periods of your own life that you aren’t proud of. I certainly have had those moments (periods of several years) where I wasn’t the person I would have liked to have been. Good on Chapman for taking it on the chin and trying to bounce back.
Met chapman once at a service station on the M6. Before i knew it id given him my wallet, car, phone and keys to my bedside and felt good about it. Im destitute now but his qirky madcap guitarprenure persona made it all worthwhile.
Chapman is now working with Guitarmory/Cerberus guitars. I’m friends with the owner and he is one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. His customer service is second to none. So, when they announced that they’re working with Chapman, I assumed things have improved for Chapman.
KDHs previous Chapman video regarded Chapman was shopping for a new builder and factory, guess it happened eh
I wonder how long that relationship will last.
He’s not just working with them he’s a co-owner
Guitarmory????? I love their pickups!!
@@Erisblackstone same. They have incredible products and service!
Kudos to the sales rep he had been very proactive to show KDH all models
Was never a particular fan of Rob... but this gets my respect. Well done to both for completing the story.
Massive respect to KDH for consistently putting out content with big UA-camr levels of quality as a relatively small UA-camr.
Ehh.. there just petty drama videos. I mean for fuck sake one is literally about fake guitar strings like cmon.
I met him Rob about 8 years ago at a workshop he did with Rabea. It was a lot of fun and he spent a long time building up the confidence of one or two younger guys that had been through rough patches. I know he got a bit lost in his own ego for a while but he's still done a lot of good. I hope his period of reflection is/was genuine and he prospers as a result and I think he'll be better off for the KDH criticism, in the long run.
“Lost in his own ego” is exactly right.
I feel like Rob is a genuine nice guy who at times just tends to make bad decisions in the worst time possible. He doesn't seem like he's mean, I feel like he just acts before he thinks. Wow, sounds a lot like me😅
Yeah, people with Chapman surname seem to have this issue. I've met a man with Chapman surname, who kinda looked like Rob, and projects similar aura as him. Like coming in strong and acting like he's the top man. 😂
I honestly think the same. So many people are painting him as a monster just to get some drama out there :/
You brought the right microphone with you on your travels, the sound is good unlike other NAMM videos I've seen on UA-cam. And Chapman is a weirdo, that'll never change, but you have to give him credit for being able to keep his composure in front of everyone. He deserves that recognition
Do you know what model he's using by any chance?
Zoom H5
@@KDH Here you go
Being honest, their new stuff actually has a few models I'd buy. Hope to see them right this ship.
That superlight Les Paul with the thin body might actually get my money over Gibson at this point.
You do very fair and honest critiques so for anyone to get mad at you for them would only make them look like a jerk. It’s good that Rob can take it in stride.
KDH meets Chappers, what a time to be alive. We live in a simulation, that‘s a fact now.
Cool of Rob…he’s just a guy trying to make a living like the rest of us. I really like that purple chapman guitar. Chapman has some really cool stuff coming out. I love the Steel Panther one and the Danish Pete one.
KDH needs a Chapman signature guitar. That’s the next evolution of this, lol. It would be awesome.
Batman meets Joker, colorized. 😂😂😂
Goku meets Vegeta, colorized
Good to see you two getting along. Guitar is the glue that holds us together.
If Chapman and KDH can make peace then maybe there's hope for Russia and Ukraine. Just maybe.
Nah that ship has sailed.
@@XiyuYang More like, that bomb has dropped.
@@darksu6947😂😂😂 damnnnnnnn
@@darksu6947 Yo say sike right now because nobody wants that bomb to drop
You mean Russian and the western perpetrators of the war?
I'm surprised that nothing happened to you at the booth. And Chapman's message at the end was very inspirational.
Very cool that you two can keep it professional and friendly. Keep up the good work KDH 🤘🏻
Definitely like that they're expanding their line... I like some of their prototypes from what was shown... Curious how the India products will be vs the Indonesian builds...
🔥🎸🔥
Finally made the merch happen
This might be the most ambitious crossover event of all time!
I met him a couple of months ago at the Birmingham Guitar Show. He’s a really sound guy and was more than happy to stand and chat for a while
My first experience with Chappers was at Brimingham. Greeted me like an old friend and chatted Guitars for 10 mins before I went back to the Grainger booth to do some demos
I'm not a big fan of in-fighting in the guitar community, we’re small enough as it is! Having said that I thought KDH’s videos on Rob and Chapman guitars were fair for the time. Good to see Rob doesn’t hold grudges and lets bygones be bygones, and is prepared to move on. Good stuff!
Man Rob was going so well and then he had to drop the weird flex about being followed by a lot of women. You were so close to interacting like a well adjusted human being!
This community has some of the funniest looking people I’ve ever seen 💀
Bro what do you expect? Handsome athletic men do not listen to abrasive guttural distorted music and headbang along to the tempo in a sweaty mosh pit
A more iconic duo than Mario and Luigi
Glad to see you guys talking. The world needs more of that.
Nice to see the character development which looks to have taken place with Rob and the Chapman lineup. I was thinking they'd go down the pan with Rob Scallon and Rabea leaving the sig lineup but it's nice to see both the brand and owner taking steps in the right direction. The Chris Robertson sig looks VERY tempting
I also met Rob at the show and rather than just a surface hello he spent time explaining how he is able to discriminate tones to such a high degree. You have got to love this guy. He makes our industry better.
Gotta respect the persistence. Looks like Rob is stepping up his game.
"were all about fraternity cause women dont watch me"
Jeeeeze I wonder why LOL
So when is the KDH signature chapman guitar coming out?
For it being his first interview, the first dude did very well. Knew his stuff !!
A selfie with Seymour Duncan and Larry DiMarzio at the same time would be the rarest photo ever taken.
Rob seems like a pretty cool Cat
It's good to see that we can move on to be better and just be friends with one another
See, now this is what i wanted to see! Music and Guitar brings people together! It's a very powerful force if used correctly with good intentions it connects eachother on deeper level. Cheers to You and Rob! Always keep on Rocking both of you 🤘🏽🎸💜
Highest on-screen sexual tension since Brokeback Mountain
Imagine off screen, Chapman yanking his hair back while he enters him roughly from behind with his little choad
Chicks would kill for that KDH hair. Forget the merch, do a Head & Shoulders ad instead 🤣
Good for both of you. Glad to see that Chapman guitars seems to have got itself together with some very interesting products that were well presented by good man Dan. I might even check one or two out.
Def good when you treat everyone with kindness/respect not alot of people do these days hopefully moving production will allow him to manufacture better instruments.
More than that, it shows a huge level of accountability when people you've fairly criticized are able to accept that criticism and better themselves.
@@Game4Lord after a bit of a “wobble” over it lol
Dig the person playing “Purple Haze” in the background. “Guitar shop Greatest Hits”…What a great idea for an album!
I liked this outcome, I'm a fan of Rob Chapman and like your insight into guitar stuff. So great to see you both talking and shaking hands.
We still want that boxing match though. You can put on a guitar UA-camr boxing event and get all of them in on it.
The Pete semi-hollow and the white guitar semi-hollow look lovely
I was there on Friday and I got to meet Rob. I’d been at the booth for a while, and he came up to me, shook my hand, and said “should’ve done this sooner how are you?”. I was thinking “maybe he’s not that bad,” but then he proceeded to interrupt the conversation I was having with someone else at the booth. I ended up asking about a pickup configuration, and I got this vibe that he just didn’t wanna answer any questions about it. He then interrupted the guy I was talking to like three times to make sex jokes, and I ended up just walking away
Edit: Rob responded to this comment apologizing, so if he sees this again, I wanna say thank you for being sincere and apologizing. I had a part about another bad experience with someone, but deleted it as I felt it was a bit dickish
Lol, good call.
lmao XD
Wats he doing at namm?
don't even know who the hell Corey Feldman is and don't care ... but for sure you can feel that this mr Chapman is not the "nice guy" he wants desperately everyone think he is ... nope ...
Dude, I’m sorry, to be honest, I was probably drunk - Thursday night was pretty insane, please accept my apologies if you felt I wasn’t listening 100% - it is difficult being surrounded by people all day, but I always try and give my attention when possible.
It's interesting seeing two men at completely opposite ends of the hair spectrum together
I know I'm 7 months or so late on this but good for you guys, so glad you buried the hatchet, really nice to see👍
Respect to both you of you!
It's a power move. If you can't fight against it, go with it and take ownership to defuse you a little. Shoulda stinkpalmed him.
They we're certainly very nice to KDH, good for everyone.
I joked that I couldn't wait to see you at the Chapman booth and here we are.
Loving the NAMM coverage, this has been one of my favorite channels since the beginning of the pandemic. Keep up the good work KDH!
I will say, I think Rob is a good guy who has made some mistakes. I remember when I was 16, I had just gotten into playing guitar, and I was obsessed with it. I wanted to start my own guitar company and I was a fan of the Anderton’s channel with Rob. I emailed him, telling him about my newfound passion and wanting to start a company. The man actually responded and told me what I would need to do to start a guitar company and wished me luck on my guitar journey. It was really cool for him to take the time to respond to some random fan. I’ve always kept that in mind every time I’ve heard bad about him, even though he has definitely made mistakes.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Love it! I like both of you guys, so this was nice to see. And great video on their lineup as well! I’d like to have a ghost fret. I’ve never owned a Chapman before.
Rob’s head is so big he looks at that whole thing like he came out on top lol. That’s the only reason he’s not upset.
I would have love a more interesting interview with Rob, where you can actually ask your concerns (like the UK model and such)
An stoppable force met an unmovable object.
Nobody's booth got firebombed, and nobody got their kneecaps drilled. It's a win/win for everyone!
It's taken Rob a good many years to realize that not all criticism of him is hate, he's still not fully there yet but tbh he has grown up a lot about the whole thing. Maybe he's been humbled enough times. Good to see this interaction now after the old shitstorms in the past.
I was happy to see you at NAMM. You were in conversation so didn’t want to intrude. Will buy some merch to keep you coming out!
Chapman Guitars are Killing It this year! Love those signatures: the Chris Robertson is Stunning! The Red Pete Honore is Sexy! The Steel Panther Super-S just Rawks! Great colors & options on some awesome instruments!
This is the sizest thing ever!
That was really cool. great job, great video!!
A friend bought a Chapman off of Reverb that is basically a Hot Rod Strat with Seymour Duncan pickups for a little over 500 USD and it’s a killer guitar that is loaded for the price. It’s versatile enough to be the only guitar that you ever need and it’s well built and sounds and feels like a guitar twice it’s price. It is a return to everything good that Chapman started out with and it would be my top recommendation over any guitar in the 500-700 range
Ill have to try a chapman one of these days now
Rob came across very well here I must say. For him, this was a great marketing opportunity, and they played it well. Hell I now want to buy a Chapman new range guitar. They look fantastic.
Most Awesome new Chapman Guitars' and Making Peace not War!God' there's Hope for the World Yet!✌️🎼🎸 Thank you!
I gotta say, I LOVE the looks of that first white guitar I think it is the Rich Robinson signature model.I'm a real traditionalist, a Les Paul/Strat/Tele diehard but mannnn, that white thing with all the gold and Gretsch type binding might make me fork out for my first Chapman, because it looks fan-freakin-tastic. Well done!
Is that a joe haley signature on your wall Mr K. I’m legitimately excited about indian guitars.
Thank you Steven Wilson's nephew.
Chapman is undoubtedly a bit of a d***head but I don't think he really deserved the demolition job KDH did on him. But fair play to both for being respectful in what could have been an awkward encounter.
Having met Rob a couple times, that man is always very genuine and kind.
I have a made in India Jackson, it's solidly built... good as any other budget import I've played anyway.
Have to give both KDH and Rob credit for this, at the end of the day they're both just dudes who love guitar
0:16
Either I’m hearing things, or I heard someone mention Chapman Stick!
Lol your face when he made that weird fraternity comment
Nice coverage about Chapman booth and a cheerful happy ending 😂😂
KDH, you're the man. And Rob, touché good sir. 👍
I saw rob chapman too but i was too shy to talk to him. He was glorious in person
14:12 what's the name of that guitarist? I've searched but don't know how to spell his name.
Didn’t see that coming . But what I like about their guitars is they take reverse headstock seriously and that’s what I like. Wish more companies offered more reverse models 🤟
KDH inherited all of Rob's hair
Wholesome.
Let me take this time to say, maybe I took it too hard on old Chapman. Businesses have set backs in the beginning, fair enough. Gotta give him credit for trying to get a company going on.
Very cool to see this. Fair play guys 👏
Now ask him for your own signature guitar 😁
Wow that was amazing, it gives Rob so much more credibility.
Damn I was expecting the throw down. That damn British charm
Based chapman
Well that's 15 minutes of my life I won't get back, just looking at CrapMan guitars... 🤷♂️
Look Andertons, he's been redeemed! Let's see Rob back on the show
