  • Hey guys! Welcome back! Ok this was Practice Session #2 of Advanced Slow Motorcycle Riding Skills. We had to do something during the week because everyone isn't off on the weekends. Again fun was had, but more importantly, lessons were learned and skills were heightened.
You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
    PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
    What does PRELOAD mean?
    PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

I've just found your channel and I love it! I've been riding 47 years and I've gone through several advanced courses but I love your instruction the best! I am a retired LEO and always wanted motors but my department refused to put a girl on a harley! So I bought my own! Keep up the great job!

Great training again Robert! One thing that might help some of your riders out is partially cover the rear brake to feather it instead of having their entire foot on the brake. I find the rear brake is easier to feather the less I cover especially during slow speed maneuvering. Another great exercise to incorporate would be a brake and escape exercise. Most riders probably aren't familiar with how their motors handle during emergency braking and that's definitely a tool that's needed operating a motor on the street. Keep up the good work brother!

Hi Robert, I’ve been taking in your videos, ramping up for my entrance into this community. I want to thank you for putting yourself on UA-cam to allow cats like me to gain the confidence. We need to put 1 foot in front of the other. The date of this comment is 4/22/24. I’m getting my first helmet 4/25/24 and then about a week or two later I’ll be doing the CHP motorcycle training course out here on the West Coast. Again, thank you sir for not only your service out there in New York what you did for a living but also your continued service to the biker community to this day. Thank you I’m gonna go back to your videos and I’m gonna watch them all in order. I don’t wanna miss a thing.! 😂

Thank you so much for taking the time to create content that you're passionate about and that can benefit the novice rider like me. I recently took and passed the MSF Basic Riders Course. Although I passed the evaluation and received my certificate and road test waiver, I struggled with the U-turn and figure 8 portion of the course. Had I watched your videos first, I believe that I could have used the techniques such as preload and using the rear break to master the parts of the course I'd struggled with.
My next step is to take the written portion at the DMV and get the Motorcycle endorsement on my license. Then it'll be bike shopping time.
Thanks again. And I'll continue watching your videos with anticipation of applying what I learn once I get a bike of my own.

I have always (the last year or so) held Jerry as the "Gold Standard" of slow maneuvers with a motorcycle. You're teaching the EXACT same things, same techniques, etc but with an added bonus --- you seem to be more focused on what's going on between the ears rather than the results. For most riders, this is GOLD! Being in Va, sure wish you were closer.
And, can't wait for you to get a wireless microphone - maybe for Christmas???? :)
Anyway, I love what you're doing! Keep it up and I'll continue to watch your vids ALL THE WAY THROUGH!

Hey Scott! Thanks for watching and subscribing! Funny you should mention the wireless mic for Christmas because it's on my list. I would have purchased it already, but my wife gets annoyed when I buy thing for myself in December because she says I ruin the opportunity for others to get me gifts. So all I did was show her a message like yours, in the comments about me needing a wireless microphone and that was all it took. She gave me my wireless microphone today!😁👍🏾

I’d love to train with him but I’m in IL.
I told him the other day how I’ve been riding dirty since I been riding and I’m gonna go legit soon (has a 13 year hiatus from riding due to financial reasons and this time around I wanted to really get this slow stuff down since my ride now is a 2010 fatboy not a 500lb Suzuki cruiser like I had all those years ago)
I want to get my M endorsement so I can enroll in an advanced slow speed class.
These vids are so amazing and have helped me greatly.
I have so much respect for everyone who is training to get better. I see so many long time riders duck walking around the gas station even. Or when pulling up in traffic. At least I’m not that bad lol. I can u turn in 3 spots consistently but get nervous when on the street for some reason and sometimes forget the training .. TIME FOR MORE TRAINING FOR ME
      stay safe brother

Hi Robert Im from the UK. I have just found these videos. They are great. We dont spend enough time doing the slow stuff so when we have to, it can catch us out. I have got into some bad habits and these videos have given me plenty to think about and practice. At the moment if i did your course I wold spend most of my time doing press ups due to too much front brake. Thats my starting point point useing more back brake at slow speeds. Thanks for your time , effort and input.

Great vid Sir. So many people dont know about that rear brake for help in control with the throttle and clutch at slow speed. Another great use of rear brake is, when coming to a stop in normal traffic conditions use front brake to slow bike and at the very last couple of feet apply rear brake gradually as you release front brake . Come to a stop with just the rear brake. This stops the bike nose diving at a stop .

I'm picking up a lot of great points from your videos. Being I'm from NY and I'm not a cold weather rider the bike is up for the winter. Can't wait for riding season to practice some of the techniques your teaching.

I made a post earlier that was meant for another thread sorry. I think what your doing is great I wish we had someone out here in SoCal that would give his time like you. I have been riding for 40 years but I know my slow speed skills need a lot of work I do go out and practice but not enough.

Hey what's up Robert I enjoy watching your slow riding videos, I've been watching ride like a pro videos for a couple of years now one thing I picked up in your video that I don't remember hearing in Jerry's video is to pulling the clutch in makes it easier to turn handle bars.
I consider myself a 3 and do my maneuvers for the most part straight up

    • @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
      @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle  3 роки тому

Hey Kev! Thanks for watching and subscribing! Yes pulling in the clutch makes turning easier because when the clutch is out, the motorcycle wants to go straight.
We can bring that 3 to a 6 in no time. Just keep practicing and you have to lean that motorcycle. I'll be releasing Lesson #2 in a few days. If you haven't checked out lesson #1, take a look at it. They will all tie together.

Thank you. Great video and good information. :)

Hey Robert, another great video - I really enjoyed this one with you coaching Eric. He is an accomplished rider and was able to wxecute the things you were suggesting he do. So, good job Eric, as well! I'm just picking up my bike today - 3/11/21 - spring in Pennsylvania - was in for my 18k mile check-up, new tires and break pads! I am riding a BMW K1600GTL and look forward to getting out and replicating your courses! Great stuff - thanks for sharing your knowledge! Best regards,

Great video! Just purchased my '18 Ultra Limited a couple weeks ago, and already am practicing these skills with it. I noticed while Eric was doing the slow speed turns if he would have leaned his body in the opposite direction a little more his turns would have been even tighter. Once again...great video series!

Hey Mike! Funny you should say that because a guy had a Goldwing out there on the practice course today. I tried it for the first time ever. It definitely will take some getting use to, but that everything in life. You can get use to anything. It turns a lot smoother than a Harley.
I will be doing a video in the future on slow riding 2-up. Just remember, after you adjust the suspension,, nothing else changes.
