I was able to do up to brown belt within my first month of riding. Uncomfortable, but doable. I’m now 3.5 months in, brown belt is easy and comfortable. Crazy13 drill in 25-26 seconds. But black is murdering me, dropped my bike probably half a dozen times this week alone
I added an advanced practice to this: Taking a turn in the stalls, then accelerating fast to the the next row of stalls, turning, then accelerating back to the other set. This is helping me with hard braking in addition to the maneuvering. Thanks for your videos and books!
GREAT VIDEO! love no equipment drills. Watching this video from home or the park is golden. Somebody might watch 20 videos about 5 other topics before grabbing or buying cones. This forces the brain to remember your video every time a circuit city parking lot is passed😂👌🏾
That is a great video with lots of truth. If making turns in a parking lot many times, when it's time on the road, no problem. I have a Goldwing that I will never change and have problems finding the correct speed to do U-Turns, first speed is too slow and second is too fast, but with the rear brake, that might help. Thank you for taking time to show us the how to do it.
Thought I'd be able to jump right to blue belt, but no! Even white was a challenge when you haven't practiced in a long time. Before I left was able to do blue sort of confidently. Ready to get back out and try again!
@ nine5raptor: Thanx, this is a very, very worthful comment (in my mind)! In regard of all the things in life, we have to do our homework. Same. I tried this exercise after a week of riding. 3 parking spots felt easy so I tried 2 parking spots and instantly dropped my bike lol. Shut up and went back to practicing 3 parking spots for the rest of the session

Solid video working on the foundations! I've been doing these types of drills for years on my road bike and my mountain bike. 👍 the slow speed maneuvering helps tremendously on the trails specially when it comes to an unfamiliar role or drop and it also helps with balance lines
Dont you guys have to practice the figure 8 in the driving lessons to get your license? Im currently going for my motor license here in the Netherlands, and the figure 8 is one of the excersizes we need to do to pass the exam. From what I can tell its about the same space aswel. Its difficult to say the least.. So these videos are a great help man. Cheers.
We have to do something similar, at least in Indiana, we do a double U-turn which is essentially the same philosophy. The difference is, the test requires to do the maneuver within a 20ft box, whereas this skill test is within 16.
Hi Nils, for example in Germany the authorities cancelled the "8", because too many failed. Some acts in the courtyards, and this challenge has gone! We do the same with the exam levels in school by and by, so that even the laziest and *** pupils can reach the exam. That.s why we need "special forces" from "somewhere else" in Germany. We need to be a "society with effortless prosperity", without getting out of bed, but getting money from the state!
Agreed. Bike matters but its not end all be all. I can do some "blue belt" stuff on my hayabusa it just takes more effort than my 600. Wayyyyy easier on my 600 than my cruiser.

Ugh I tried doing this and after a while I was going too slow and ended up dropping it. Pro Tip. If you ride a Suzuki Bandit.... remove the front indicators before trying this (or else have a box of eBay spare indicators) Yeah... this bike always falls on its indicator
I started yesterday with a vfr800 '03. I can already do blackbelt stuff (circles with full lock) did it yesterday and today. But brown belt feels much harder because of the time you have to switch the weight of the bike and yourself. Maybe its just that l dont have enough trust in a bike and myself yet. And left hand gets sore really fast :D
Awesome videos man! Lots to learn and you're a great teacher. You lost me at doing this drill without the clutch. Slow speed stuff on a heavy MT09 as a shorter rider is already terrifying without my bike angry at me that the clutch is all the way out and Im under 15mph xD. The thought alone of doing this white belt drill without my clutch gave me a micro anxiety attack d:
I just took a "dirt Bike course through Honda in Colton. We did some of these drills but I had struggled with throttle control feeling jerky. The coaches were smooth. It was a beginning class and was not addressed. I need advice!
I'm a bit new to counter-steering, but nor riding. One of the problems I have getting this straight is the use of the terms "Push" and Pull". To me, when I "push" something, I am pushing it away from my body. When I "pull", I am pulling it towards my body. At around the 4:30 mark, He describes what he is doing, but it seems he is pushing when he says pulling and pulling when he says pushing. What am I missing?
Got out, worked it out, then started working with your slow speed turn video. Awesome. Going through your white belt training now. I've been riding for close to 30 years, had no idea I didn't know, what I didn't know. Thanks for your vids, excellent work!
Loved your video. Is there a role of aerodynamics of the bike? Some bikes are heavier but feel lighter..like yours in this case. I have a cafe racer. I always feel that it's more heavy and difficult to handle in tighter turns . Any suggestions
You just need to be more dynamic in your moves. Give just a little bit more speed and gaz approaching your u-turn and when you see the exit just open à little more your clutch to stop leaning and going straight to the other u-turn. Just like 1mm open when you finish turning. Legs well locked tight on your tank and the most important is the place you look at. As you have a different position on your bike your closer from the floor, don't be afraid to lean your bike. If footpegs touch the ground no fear it means that you lean it well.
You make it look so easy! How do you handle "only-clutch-drivin" with an older bike using a carburetor? They don't have the idle increase like fuel injection have.
I have an old one and still works , practice more , Work on your clutch-throttle control , go to a steep uphill , or slow down and increase speed just using the clutch lever
So when you counter steer at low speed and after you initiate your lean one side when you wanna turn the forks the other way do you turn the handle bars normally again or counter steer the other direction? If I push right and go right and initiate the lean to the right what do I do when I wanna go left?
@@j3tztbassman123 adding slight artificial lean of the bike while your body remains upright and/or a touch of rear brake drag can help too, you can also pedal kick or ratchet to maintain pedal clearance to help maintain momentum without risking pedal strikes. stay committed to it and youll be endlessly rewarded.
Do you initiate the turn with and push and then finish the turn by turning the handle bars, or is the goal to counter steer enough to carry the lean through the turn?

I was also scared to tip over & I did.. because I fell the 1st time, I got scared and my 2nd attempt I thought I was falling, so I dropped the bike myself 😫 My instructor canceled my exam and my next lessons, he said I need to take some time off from the bike because I can’t get the fear from leaning out of my head 😑

As you practice you will realize that it is not so likely that you will do this as long as you maintain a bit of speed. On the plus side, sometimes those sudden moments of adrenaline have a way of drilling the lesson far more permanently and quickly. Good videos. Of course it is better if we can turn head and shoulders to look into the distance when we practice tight turns at low speed. It is safer to know what is up ahead. But for me as a beginner, it is easier to look slightly down and forward if I increase lean angle (and counter weigh). If I look down and forward I can estimate the lean angle by looking at the front of the bike, windshield and ground.
I don't have a clutch on a scooter, so guess what I do with the finely responsive levers on the handlebar? Or is that the old Moto/ScooterJitsu debate again? :)
Throttle and dragging the rear brake is how I did my slow tight turn practice when I had a scooter. Bonus is that you can make super small tight circles with the shorter wheelbase.
Right after the three minute mark, you state you’re pushing left to lean the bike left, yet the handle bars turn left as if you pulled left/pushed right. So I am confused about counter steering still. I need to get over to a parking lot and try it myself I suppose.
I think he just misspoke or I'm not understanding what "pushing left" even means. Could mean pushing the left hand forward, this initiates a quick-twitch turn of the bars to the right, which then naturally leans the bike left....where you can then lean in to the turn with bars (to the left) and body. At any rate it's done naturally. You can't turn any two wheeled bike without counter steering first. It's impossible. He's just pointing out the physics of it all.
@@DavidetaraborrelliIt nope. The problem I run into is that the clip ons lock up and the compensate, I have to lean the bike further and ride the clutch like crazy. My bike also does not like being in low RPMs due to some of the modifications on it, so it just makes it more of a challenge
Damn, in romania to get ur license you need to do most things u show here. Figure 8, and also rotations at full lock. If u cant do this, u can't get a license
@@MotoJitsu i am not even close to mastering anything, i don't have my license yet😅... Another thing, when i am on the gas, and i counter steer to the right, i kind of pull the gas DOWN when pushing the handlebar forward with the right hand. At any rate it's done naturally. You can't turn any two wheeled bike without counter steering first. It's impossible. He's just pointing out the physics of it all.
This is super hard on my ZX10R
right? On my ZX6R I can't even stay within 24 feet when doing a u-turn. The thing just want to go straight. Any improvements on your end?
@@DavidetaraborrelliIt nope. The problem I run into is that the clip ons lock up and the compensate, I have to lean the bike further and ride the clutch like crazy. My bike also does not like being in low RPMs due to some of the modifications on it, so it just makes it more of a challenge
Same belts for long cruiser bikers?
Yup
Im not really sure if you're counter stearing here. We can see you're not, base on the angle of the handle bar
The best
I didnt think you'd counter steer at that speed :/
Damn, in romania to get ur license you need to do most things u show here. Figure 8, and also rotations at full lock. If u cant do this, u can't get a license
Here too...so what? That means you mastered it because you did it in a course? lol
@@MotoJitsu i am not even close to mastering anything, i don't have my license yet😅... Another thing, when i am on the gas, and i counter steer to the right, i kind of pull the gas DOWN when pushing the handlebar forward with the right hand. Which causes the bike to lunge forward... and if it would be a bigger bike, that could be a fatal mistake
what a weird comment to make when you don't even have your license.
@@MotoJitsu sorry for any confusion, i meant no disrespect. I was just pointing out about what is like in my country . I understand it's very important to keep practicing and improving.
no confusion or disrespect...I'm just saying
I do these every once a week
smart!
