  • Hello my friends and fellow orchidists,
    Here I show you how to apply Keiki hormone paste to the flower spike nodes to get keikis.
    You have to carefully peel off the outer skin over a nice healthy bumpy node and then apply the paste.It takes 7-10 days for the node to show some activity.
    I had got one Keiki last year from an orchid and you can follow that story in my Playlist.
    See what happens!

    I rescued an phalanopis orchid from my Daughter's home the roots are gone, there is still a spike that has two small keiki's with tiny leaves the spike still a bud on it what should I do .

    • @sooneatyOrchids
      @sooneatyOrchids  8 років тому

      I suggest you put it in a glass vase or or glass and let the roots air out. You can put some water at the bottom of the jar, and hope some roots come back. If there are keiki roots, spray those daily. Good luck!

      Keiki paste is a hormone for stimulating growth from the node of the plant. You may be able to buy it online.

    Hi there! is there another way of cloning orchids without KEIKI?
    Thanks!

    • @sooneatyOrchids
      @sooneatyOrchids  7 років тому +3

      no there isn't at this time anyway to clone an orchid.

    • @pamlipscomb4728
      @pamlipscomb4728 6 років тому +2

      Yes there are multiple ways to propagate orchids - cloning is done by meristem culture, divisions, you can use stem method that requires simple method but highly sterile conditions using specially prepared flasks using a bloom stem as opposed to true meristem, and there is breeding where you cross (breed) 2 plants then a seed pod develops, ripens, is planted in specific specially prepared flasks of agar, nutrients, etc. and again under very sterile conditions. There may be more depending on what type of orchid you want to progagste. However divisions and keiki paste is the simplists - everything else requires lab type conditions in terms of sanitary procedures. You can search the type of orchid you want to,propagate “phalaenopsis progation”, etc. Meristem type culture is the faster methods for many clones of the same plant but is the most difficult but the plants will be exactly the same as the main plant. Seedlings will never be the same - it will some combination of the parents but this method takes anywhere from 2-8 years to get a blooming size or close to blooming plant , keikis are probably and flask stem propagation are single plants and will be the same as main plant. Keep in mind the keiki paste is a hormone and can present health issues - wear gloves and don’t get on skin.

    I have a question and that question is if the crown has mold on it and all of the leaves died off and it’s just a green stem for where the flowers bloom from would their be any way for me to save thee orchid and have it grow back all of the leaves?

    • @sooneatyOrchids
      @sooneatyOrchids  2 роки тому +1

      I am afraid, just the stem with no roots will not be able to grow leaves.

    Hi . What is the best condition about light and temperature to induce a keiki in phalaenopsis?

    • @sooneatyOrchids
      @sooneatyOrchids  8 років тому

      I dont know how to induce a Keiki. In Nature, this usually happens when the plant is in distress and has no energy for flowers, so it tries to clone itself into a younger plant hoping that will survive. This one here is hormonally induced. The light and temp are same as for the regular parent plant.

    • @tumecanicopeugeot
      @tumecanicopeugeot 8 років тому

      Thank you... I found out and with some stimulation 45 days after the blooming with growing hormones, high temperature and less light it could create keiki. I had not tried but I will.

      Hi Gopinath,
      Not more blooms, but this is cloning of the plant, so producing more plants without growing from seeds,

    • @feliscatus17
      @feliscatus17 9 років тому +1

      Hey, I'm from Sydney and I've just learned that keiki paste is just root hormone. I bought some today at a local nursery (Flower Power). It's called Rootex-L and the active ingredient is indole butyric acid (root hormone). It also came in powder and gel form, you'd probably use the gel as a keiki paste.

    lol.. no I dont know how to make keiki without paste, they naturally occur in Nature when the plant is stressed and it thinks there is no more energy to produce flowers and it puts out a clone of itself in form of keiki. If you can stress a plant enough, by low watering and neglect you might get one ( if your conscience allows you to ill treat an orchid!).
