About 10 years ago, I had an orchid with 2 babies growing and could not find a single video on how to repot those! So glad I found your video since I know someone who has an orchid that has keiki’s!
Just discovered a baby on my many years old orchid like 5 min ago !!!- I was today years old when I learned keiki term and found your video and learned how to pot - thank you! Great images, supply list, everything I need to do it tomorrow !
Nice video, thank you. I would consider opening up a small paper clip in the form of a long u shape and use it to hold down the baby plans in the new pots. Otherwise, with a small movement the plant can dislodge and fall off the pot, possibly get injured.
That was really helpful. I have 2 keikis and wasn’t sure how or if I could replant them. One of mine has a flower and one root. You made it look pretty straightforward.
If it's not possible to plant the keiki because the roots will not fit into a pot, I would put the keiki in a jar/terrarium on a moss and let it grow new shorter roots. Then I would plant the new shorter roots in the medium and would leave the long ones as aerial roots
Thank you for this video. Haven't known what to do with my keiki which has about 10 aerial roots lol. I have been waiting for it to grow it's own roots still attached to mother plant. Now I know, thanks.
Hi Rebecca, thank you. I water when the roots look silver. But I try to increase the air humidity first. I feel that it's more important so that the keikis don't get wilted while they try to grow roots.
Hi Anna, your video on how to plant Keikis was very helpful to me. I have 4 Keikis and just planted them the way you described. My only question, do you keep adding water to the botton of the pot as the water I'm sure will dry up? Thank you, looking forward to many more of your videos. 🌱
Yes they do. These are Phalaenopsis orchids and they all can have keikis on the flower spikes. However, it's not easy to make them grow keikis. Some do and some don't. I think it also depends on the variety, some grow keikis easier than others.
Thanks for a great video! Can I plant a keiki that has fully bloomed flowers and where the stem it's on of the original orchid is still alive and not dried?
How about orientation? Does the direction you point the plant end up creating better balance when it grows larger and gets a flower stem, or is that not so important? Thanks for this helpful video!
I watch your video on potting the keikis. How does the keiki get water if their aerial roots are only on the surface and not deep rooted in the medium? The small amount of water in the pot, how long will it remain there. Is it necessary to spray on the aerial root every now and then? Is Seramis (special subtrat) the only medium recommended for keiki or any other orchid soil or granules can be used?
Hey Rosa. Thanks for great questions. I always add the water in the pot, when it evaporates. So, I don't let it disappear completely. I keep the air humidity high, always spraying around the plant and having trays with water close to them. You can also use bark, but I use the clay granules
Thanks so much for your reply. You haven't reply if Seramis Special subtrat is the only medium for keiki or Seramis granules or any other orchid barks can be used for keiki? How often can I water the keiki?
@@rosaong9152 Hey Rosa, I use Seramis clay granules, but Seramis is a brand, you can use any clay granules of any company. I do not recommend bark, as bacteria can grow on it very fast
I have two babys only neither have any roots. I'm starting to think I just don't have what it takes. Each one has 4-5 peddles but like I said no roots. Don't know what to do.
My keiki has only grown one root, but it's been growing for around almost a year and hasn't grown any more roots. And the root is petty long at this point. Can I still pot it with only one root?
Hey Sara, yes, it is absolutely possible, but a bit risky. If the flower spike where the keiki grows is getting dry or yellow, it's a good idea to plant the keiki now. If the flower spike is green, it still provides nutrients for the keiki and you can wait. But it may take a couple of months till the second root will grow
@@AnnasViolets thank you! I actually just recently had three more roots grow and the stem has also grown from the Kiki with flower buds on it already! Is it okay to plant with the stem and flower buds?

I was given a keike today. I learned how to pot as well as what they are called. Great video.

It's a very good idea. It was unstable, indeed.
I didnt know it was that simple. I just did it and hopefully it will survive the summer heat!
Hi Anna love the way you present and narrate!
Thank you so much 🙂

Very helpful! I’m excited to plant my first keiki after watching this video.
Thank you for this information. Questions: 1) how often do you water. 2) when and how do you transfer to a bigger pot?
How do you treat kekeis that are bigger and have very long aerial roots?

I try to plant them straight, but all of my orchids eventually grow almost horizontally. They tend to bend over the pot :)
I just planted a keiki with just one root. Will it survive?
А можно ли посадить кейки в мох? И можно ли оставить все корешки воздушными?
Is this normal for keikis to grow on old flower stems? Awesome video!
Hi Leah, thank you so much! Yes, it's normal. As long as the old flowers pike stays green, it can produce a keiki :)

How do you get keikes to grow on the flower stem? Please respond 🙏🏼
I didn't do anything special. I think some varieties grow keikis easier than others
How to get keiki on the stem itself without cuting
Hey Ourida, there is a special paste that you can use, but I have never used anything special to force the orchid to produce babies.
I’ve tried the paste but it wasn’t successful and was pretty expensive

my keiki does not have roots… it’s not grown or changed for 7 months… leaves on the mother orchid are getting limp. Advice?
Maybe overwatered? Do you see the roots? Are they rotten?

How did you happen to get 3 keikis grow on a phal? Plz share lol
I think it is the orchid variety that has this tendency. I didn't do anything special, no chemicals. Just proper care, as usual
My philaenopsis plant has produced a keiki which is currently in flower. Do I wait until the flower has died before planting the keiki.
Yes, you can plant it after flowering. One of my keikis has also flowered, but it had just one flower
