    I own D7500, and its a top quality camera. Takes superb shots with great colors and contrast. It is much better then D7200 in-terms of IQ, speed and processing.The touch articulating screen is a wonderful addition. The ergonomics and weight of this camera is iMO better then D7200. In lot of ways,its more of a D500. I am absolutely enjoying this gem

      @@omarvazquez7813 The d7500 does really great in low light. If your aperture is very open too, you can basically make seamless photos.

    in liveview I don't use C-AF. I use AF-S, step down to F8, prefocus, then film. If the depth of the object substantially changes I will half press the shutter button or tap the screen. This keeps the wobble AF to a minimum and makes the videos usable.

    • @DriveByReviews
      @DriveByReviews  6 років тому +1

      Absolutely, if you don't mind being limited to a larger DOF it should work well at F8. I tend to push camera's to the limit in their AF abilities simply to show the deficit compared to what they COULD have put in the camera. Really, it makes no sense for Nikon to hang on to old tech when they're getting completely outclassed by Sony when it comes to AF. But each camera has its pros and cons.

    • @Ullimately
      @Ullimately 6 років тому

      Yes, live view with D7500 sucks. It does not auto focus at all.

    • @tooshmart6669
      @tooshmart6669 6 років тому

      Hopefully they put their new phase detection sensor in the new D750 and have smooth AF in live-view. It doesnt have to be a mirrorless camera to have great AF like the 80D.

    • @tooshmart6669
      @tooshmart6669 6 років тому

      If Nikon can make a 4K version the 80D, they would have a winner.

    Great video. I have this exact camera. Note that at higher f/stops (f/3.5), the autofocus has a harder time focusing, while at f/11 there is a broader depth of field so it's easier for it to focus (as in your shot rolling through the neighborhood).

    • @DriveByReviews
      @DriveByReviews  7 років тому +1

      Thanks Brent! A good point, although I haven't noticed much of an improvement with different f stops but that would be an interesting test video to make in the future ;D In photography mode I find the AF is pretty snappy and accurate (even with the f1.4 lens I'm testing right now). My disappointment in the AF comes mostly from two observations: 1) A huge disparity between AF in photo and video mode. 2) DSLR cameras used to beat mirrorless with AF and, with its recent release, the D7500 should have been a challenge to the 425 phase detection autofocus points that is available in cheaper mirrorless options. Nikon could justify having less AF points for more $ if their performance was superior, but it definitely isn't.

    NIce review. I'm trying to like the D7500, but it hasn't yet won me over. Part of the reason I'm still on the fence is most of my subject matter is wildlife in motion, and the AF system has not been consistent. It works really well some of the time, and very poorly some of the time, and is not something I experienced with my D7200. That suggests the 'difference' is the product of the Expeed 5 processor, or the new metering sensor, which are supposed to be two of the more worthy upgrades from the D7200.

    thanks - I am happy with this camera, trying to learn all the functions of it before going overseas (Baltic Cruise and Denmark) for a couple of months and want to be an expert before going to India next January for three months. Will subscribe - there are few videos on this camera except for people bagging it and being all precious about only one slot. I like it.

    • @DriveByReviews
      @DriveByReviews  7 років тому +3

      Nice, someone else asked for a walk through on the dials so I was considering combining that info with all the autofocus settings into one video. And yeah, I hear you on the extreme reactions to one SD card slot. Personally, I don't mind, but I also get how people who wanted to use it for professional use find 2 slots essential.

  • @williambillings6972
    @williambillings6972 5 років тому +1

    Very good demo regarding the AF system, which is what I had the most questions about. I can do without a second SD card slot, but the somewhat quirky AF of the 7500 seems to diminish the benefits of a movable screen, increased FPS, and improved metering. With the current difference (D7200 @ $696.95 v. D7500 @ 1146.95) in price it makes more sense - to me to either get a new D7200, or wait until Nikon releases the D7500's successor.

    • @sutoikku
      @sutoikku 5 років тому

      It's price has dropped. Mostly vloggers worry about autofocus for videos. Most video pros keep their cameras on manual anyway. I own a D7500 and I don't generally have an issue with autofocus as long as it's off.

    I recently retired and love taking pictures and purchased this camera, but don`t know anything about this camera except what I`m learning from videos on youtube. You did not say how to set this camera for high-speed shooting. I really need to find a video to show me how to set it completely. My thing is that I don`t want to run fro vid to vid and get a lot of info that`s different from others and end up being overly confused by so many different versions.

    Hey my friend , thanks for the review !! Great job :)
    Can I ask you something ? I am Nikon d5300 user , And I am going to upgrade my camera gear for produce 4k videos , You are a Sony A6300 user , so besides the crop factor and bad autofocus in video mode in nikon ( which are no problem for me ) , what you think about the 4 k video quality , I mean resolution / detail ? Sony vs Nikon 4K , I know Sony is better because is 6k oversampled to 4K , but is a huge difference ?
    Thanks for your time and channel !!! :D

    • @DriveByReviews
      @DriveByReviews  7 років тому +2

      Hey Kanashiro, great question and it sounds like you've done your homework. The full answer really is going to come down to personal preference and intended use of the camera. Short answer I would say Sony, but I have a lot more experience with Sony overall and like the color/dynamic range it produces. Nikon continues to strike me as a photo focused brand. Keep in mind that a true comparison based on cost would be the Sony a6500 vs. Nikon D7500. Now, if you're going to be making youtube videos then detail will be reduced anyways from YT's processing making subtle differences moot. If you're going to be using it for a home business for clients then you should choose what you're most comfortable with; Sony's menu's can be a nightmare and it sounds like you're used to Nikon.

    • @kstyle12
      @kstyle12 7 років тому +2

      Thanks for your fast and detailed answer !! yes i really enjoyed my Nikon D5300 and i bought 3 lenses which i loved .I am Music Producer/Dj and started this year make some profile pictures and music videos to clients and even some times make Photos/Videos for Party Events at clubs .
      I saw just need 4k videos cause the clients and the market will demand soon, this level of resolution for sure , so Sony A6300 gave a hype to the Market of mirrorless , make me thinks if time to change to mirrorless .
      But with Sony i dont like the battery life , the design of the body and functions buttons and menu system ,if you are in one event make pics and videos looks hard to change fast , overheat ... you never know where you need to shoot in Warm music studio or at hot summer day and the lenses choice are so expensive and short compared to Canon and Nikon (Adapter are available but you have risk to bugs and lose autofocus performance )and the body of mirrorless dont look like something is made for last many years of hard use... but at all i cant deny Sony A6300 and A6500 is one of the amazing Low Budge for 4k Video and Photos .
      I think .. i already made my decision my friend ... i will stick with Nikon D7500 besides downsides is a amazing full feature pack into 1 camera ;D
      See you bro !!! keep the good work here .. Cheers From Japan / Tokyo

I didn't get the difference in auto focus between live mode and view finder mode. are these modes as horrible in both settings? is the 7500 an upgrade to the 7200? I don't mind the single slot sd. • @DriveByReviews
      @DriveByReviews  7 років тому +2

      Loaded question and ultimately it will come down to your preference. However, on paper the D7500 has a lot over the 80D like 200%+ higher max ISO, higher color depth, higher dynamic range, larger sensor pixel area, can shoot 4k video, and even longer shutter mechanism life. Since you mentioned traveling, I've enjoyed the portability of the a6000. Also, it's much cheaper to replace if lost/stolen/broken during a trip. You can check out my overview of it here: ua-cam.com/video/_02o07saipM/v-deo.html

      calis krit it's great camera but one SD card 💔 that the only reason bad for me

    • @hatch7x
      @hatch7x 6 років тому +1

      I believe most D7500 critics probably already own either a D7200 or a Canon 8D, so they naturally are biased to what they own and that's ok. I don't know if "calis kit" falls into that category or not and my purpose is not to call him/her out on their post but rather I want to injects a different perspective to the discussion. I understand that those using their camera for commercial purposes would sweat not having the redundancy of a second card slot, but for the enthusiast not worrying about delivering a product it is essentially a non issue. Personally I have never lost data on an SD card and I am old and using dedicated video cameras and DSLRs with SD cards for a long time. Facts are, the D7500 is definitely a step up in terms of quality of the photo, for those folks more interested in upgraded guts of the camera. Namely, the D7500 has the upgraded image processor and image sensor of the DX format flagship D500 as well as improved metering, all of which translates into better better photos in general and better photos in low light in particular. As to video, I personally do not use a DSLR to shoot video so I cannot speak first hand to the auto focus issue except to say that from what I read, Nikon lags Canon in this aspect of performance across their range of products.

    Your video recording camera has a bad auto focus. Left the video after a minute.

    I was tricked into buying the 7500 for UA-cam video production (simple head-in-a-box) and the auto focus is completely unusable. The Nikon 7500 camera is an absolute DOG with video. And, let's not even mention the fact that autofocus doesn't work AT ALL in 4k. Like... at all. It's simply... disconnected. Worst camera on earth for video. Stills... maybe. But, if you're doing even the most BASIC video production, avoid it like the plague.

    Wow, AUDIO FAIL. Not going to listen to someone who can't even get the basics of audio right; moving on.

    Live view with D7500 is CRAP.
    Tried to take a pic of a mushroom, using live view. Crappy live view in autofocus ALWAYS focuses on the background.
