As a long-time mechanic it was a pleasure to watch a much younger mechanic work his magic. The video was well explained and thorough. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with others.
Tubby Greyed Thank you for the encouragement/compliments Brother. Speaking the language of fellow riders and techs allows me to bring more value to viewers. 🤙
Love your presentation...by far the best explanation of the way the machine works i have ever heard.I recently acquired a 750 shadow spirit and am hungry for advice. This was spot-on advice for me...Thank You!!
This is the best video I've found on UA-cam for proper adjustment of the fuel mixture after changing jets, pipes or airbox. Plus, you are an excellent teacher.
Man this is honestly one of the best videos I have seen on UA-cam to date. I was having problems with my VT750, watched this, and within 25 minutes the problem was solved… so simply.. thank you!
Good stage presence and "flow" to the video with no wasted moves. Clearly visible view on each part of the procedure with accurate and concise explanations and even a little theory behind it all. This video is a solid 10 on the Richter scale. I already knew it all and worked at a couple of shops in the past actually. . I watched it because I'm planning to do a UA-cam demonstration myself.....if I can do one 1/2 as good as he did on this one, I'll consider it an unmitigated success!!
Just bought a vt750 a month ago. I'm having this exact deceleration backfire you describe. Thank you so much for this in-depth video! Now I have confidence in digging into this myself.
Cody, Just applied your video Deceleration Backfire: Tuning your carburetor. I have the same exact 2003 Honda VT750 you did the video on... It took care of the problem and actually sounds great. I just want to thank you for taking the time and posting it. I followed it to the T and all went well. Thanks again. John
John Masell Hey John, so glad that you were able to apply this video directly to your own bike! It is very satisfying and encouraging to hear this! Cheers brother!
So far you have helped out a lot. I have the 1979 Limited Edition CB750K that you did the carb sync on. I had removed the baffles to discover incredible power waiting. After restoring her in Spring 2021, I had a Vintage Motorcycle co, tune so to get it past inspection. Things were okay for about a week although some deceleration backfire.. Yesterday after highspeed driving on the highway for about 5 min's, the lean symptoms showed up. I had enriched the mixtures since before. Still some deceleration backfire - so further enriched. and deceleration backfire became minimized. But after exiting the highway yesterday, when winding down to a stop, engine shut off, and idle simply would not sustain, and would need to rev her. It seemed like a manifold leak, and also the Carb No 1 was having loud backfires during idle suddenly. After limping home, with engine case @ 240 F Temp, and after cooing down, drained float boil one and injected carb cleaner directly into the Boil via its drain hole. This improved things somewhat. The Manifold Boots had been replaced, and new hose clamps tight for a screw driver but not firm for a ratchet. Just got back after some further testing, Im using STP Ultra to clean the fuel/ carb systems. Just a little back fire to watch on Cylinder 1 - Thanks again for your help and for reading this -
Hey Cody {PonyTail} Brother of 2down.. I've been riding all my life 8 on 3 speed 13 YZ490 ,street bikes beating up the trails 23 Harleys sporty,Heritage street to now vt750 was my RIP Dad passed to me I'm no mechanic and You all guys have been Very much helping me work on..Thanks Again keep'em coming
Just wanted you to know, I did take your advise seriously the other day about having screws turned out to far. So today... I took both Pilot screws and turn them both in till I could feel them seat. Did that two times ever so lightly. Then backed each screw out 3 1/2 turns. With cold start I pulled choke out and bike started right up running nice and smooth at fast idle. Pushed choke all the way back in. Motor idled back down running smoothly. Then turned idle screw down, went for a short ride decelerating in first gear and guest what? No more back fire!! Yea I feel so blessed right now. Thank you soooooo much!
I worked at a shop and my boss had a neat trick for pulling caps. He would drill a pilot hole like you did in the center. He then would take a wood screw that he ground just a little of the sharp tip off. He would thread into pilot hole in cap. Take a small slide hammer with a claw foot and pop it out in one slide. Anyways, thought you might like the info. Something to try out maybe. Great video, on point. Thank you.
I did this on a yamaha xv250 and worked perfect. Drilled enough of the hole to allow a wood screw to grab, then with a set of pliers I wiggled it out. Took all of 5 mins to do!
I've got a 2000 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100cc, and thanks to this video, I was able to enrich its lean mixture and increase the idle speed. It's running much smoother. Much appreciated MD! My next step will be to install a K&N high-flow air filter.
Hey Cody, boy am I glad I found this video. I bet you saved me a bunch of money! I have an ‘06 Shadow Spirit and I just finished the reassembly and test drove the bike. Based on your procedure for removing the Welch plugs and adjusting the carb settings, I am very, very satisfied with the results. I bought the bike with V&H Straightshots but had a problem with backfire during deceleration. I didn’t know if the bike had been jetted and the only way to tell was to inspect the jets. I needn’t tell you what that entails but I really didn’t want to go there. After finding this video, I decided to duplicate what you demonstrated and it worked perfectly. Backfire is gone and the bike runs great. It even increased the idle just like the video and I was able to dial it back down. Thanks for a job WELL DONE!!!
I bought a 03 shadow with cobra pipes and after market air filter. Kid said it had been jetted. Back firing like crazy. He said its always done that. Thanks to your video this old timer is good to go. Keep them coming. Thanks so much.
This guy is a god!! I'm running aftermarket Vance Hines Longshot exhaust and ever since my bike has been running lean and I never knew it till I watched this video. 97 shadow 1100. Couldn't thank this man enough. I been running like that for 2yrs now.
I watched this when you first put it out and got my bike running 100 times better. And now, I'll occasionally re-watch this vid to remind myself how to make these adjustments if I need to. Thanks Cody. U da man!
The jet kit changed the main from 112 to 118 and slow jet from 35 to 38. Who knows if larger or smaller due to scale differences. Stock needle with a washer to lift. no drilling done. I rode and put the choke 2/3 closed and it improved, minimal popping. Ill add another washer to the needles and turn them out and test with service tach to get higher idle. I have an inline fuel filter with a clear outer cylinder so I can see it is getting fuel. I checked a plug and insulator was white, electrode dark. I do have the K&N air filter in stock air box, so I am getting more air so, definetly need more fuel. I rebuild the petcock recently so it seems to be ok. Love the thumbnail! That is my bike. That oil line under #2 make adjusting it a PITA. I really appreciate your time and expertise. Ken
Thank you for all that info! Indeed both the K&N and new pipes increase your flow through the motor quite a bit. Adding another shim may be a good choice, I just hope your able to get the retainer back on to hold the needle in place. Definitely give the mixtures a turn out as well, if it it's not enough going up two too 3 sizes in the mains may be the next feat. Glad you like the photo, that my 750 that I'm trying to get dialed in! You are absolutely correct that oil line is a headache especially when you have been fighting with it for long enough for the motor to get hot! Best of luck! Keep me posted we need to solve this!
Holy hell, this might just be the best thing I've ever stumbled onto on UA-cam. I've got a 2000 VT750 ACE that the PO swapped pipes on and the idle is lumpy, it can stumble a bit when you first tip in and the decel backfiring is amazing - guess that's why Cobra calls it a shotgun exhaust. It's still pretty cold here in Chicago, but once I can comfortably sit in the driveway and tinker, this is going to have to be my first step. Now if I could just get you to stop by and double check my work (and maybe go over my NT700, too) I'd be in hog heaven.
@@CIarkNova Probably so. I did end up drilling out the plugs and fiddling with the air mix - the bike rides just fine but still backfires on decel and doesn't want to rev without any load. I'll be yanking plugs and replacing them soon.
I just popped out my baffles out of a set stock harley slip ons on my honda vtx1300, and I'm back firing, too, on deceleration. I'm glad I found this video. Thanks.
Hi there Doc, well I been wrenching for over 50 years taught 9 and you did a great job explaining the mixture adjustments and getting it done. I always have used dorky sounds to explain the engine working or asak for them in diagnosing a customer complaint. Keep up the good work!!!
Been having issues getting my 75 cb 750 running clean. This and other video on syncing carbs has been more helpful than any other videos. And I've watched them all.
Brother I love your videos!!! Even if I've done something before I still see if you have a video on it cause almost every one I've watched I learned something new. You have no idea how much help you have been for me thank you soooooo much. And this video spot on popped out the plugs did a cpl adjustments and BAM...my idol is smoothed out and no more backfiring, throttle response is better and it drops right back down to smooth even idol. My Bike and I thank you tons!!!! Keep up the videos you are a life saver for guys like me.
Just finished an intake, jet screw, and exhaust on a Coleman Mini Bike lol. Ran amazing at first, then started having very little power and deceleration backfire. The setups a little different with my carb, but your vocal demonstrations told me exactly how to tune it in. I've got an adjustable idle screw and mix screw (196cc Honda Clone 6.5), I did notice the throttle has to be cranked before the engine does anything
Your a gift that keeps on giving. thanks. Time to fix my Virago. Had a 1977 GoFor with 900 org miles and sold it to a perfect owner. I got a 1994 XV750 w/5000 miles. I definitely will does this.
You dont sound like a dork you sound like a genius, i have just fired up a bike carbed car for first time and gona have a go 2moro gettin it running right, the tip on throttle linkage was a big help in gettimg my car pedal returning right and your vocal guide of what the revs are doing are so helpful, i struggle with understanding written info in many ways but you make total sense, thanks braaah!
Previous owner had destroyed the screws heads and any movement i could achieved didnt do much so switched to a cbr600 set to have them fill the floats then conitune to piss fuel over the starter out the bottom haha i think theres some double back hoses missing, more rnd might be time to invest in a refurbished set, have you ever tuned a set on a car engine? That would be a sick video seems less common knowledge more only set people know how, the principle seems the same, but be cool to learn the difference in application
@@flybikesbmx6242 cars are a little different but I can help. Feel free to contact me. I'm an old car wiz man. When I grew up we fixed our own and I'm more than happy to pass on what I know.
Whats up Cody, just wanted to thank you. These videos have enabled me to bring my father's bike back to life, and I'm looking forward to getting it fine tuned. Keep up the good work bro.
great video im sold after reading just a couple coments . cant waite to try this i have 03 shadow spirit 750 having same problem pipes were cut baffles gone same air box popping on deceleration exspained in detail n right to the point and im glad i did buy the rejet b.s. kit thanks
Subbing just because you're the first UA-cam mechanic that made the "light" click for me. Thank you, agree with everyone else, you're a very good teacher, and the silly sounds DID help.
You don't sound like a dork, it's a beautiful language, the linguistic equivalent to "a picture says a thousand words", sincerely, thank you for this video.
Same as other posters, I also could NOT get my gs500 twin running right, couldn't find help with gs500 specifically, but within 5 minutes of watching this I had my idle perfect and no longer hanging and popping.
hi Cody, jjust wanted to let you know, I just bought a very well taken care of, honda shadow 750 ace(the bike is like new), except for the exhaust which somebody removed the baffles, and the bike had a rough idle and backfire with your explanation, I followed most of it except for removing the seat and gas tank. The idle is so much more healthier, and backfire it had is gone. I get some popping sounds but not as loud as it was. Thanks for the great video. Tony
its been 2 weeks since I made these adjustments, what I am now having issues with is not only is it still backfiring as I slow down , on acceleration as I roll on the throttle, it bogs before the actual vroom and go, if you know what i mean.
WELL AS USUAL ANOTHER PERFECTLY EXPLAINED VIDEO FROM CODY THE GENIUS OF THE POWERSPORTS INDUSTRY. THOSE WELCH PLUGS SEEM LIKE THEY WOULD BE TOUGH TO REMOVE. WELL TOUGH FOR THE NORMAL HUMAN. HAHAHA, BUT WHENEVER I WATCH A CODY VIDEO THINGS ALWAYS SEEM TO GO SMOOTHLY. I KNOW YOU ARE AS GOOD AS YOU ARE SIMPLY BY KNOWING YOUR CRAFT. I'm SURE YOU DIDN'T BECOME THE MOTORCYCLE GURU YOU ARE OVERNIGHT. JUST A. PERFECT VIDEO FOR THOSE NEEDING TO KNOW HOW TO. ADJUST THE AIR/FUEL MIXTURE ON THEIR BIKE. EVERY QUESTION A PERSON MIGHT HAVE IS COMPLETELY ANSWERED IN THIS VIDEO. AWESOME JOB CODY KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS BECAUSE WE ARE LOVING THEM. THANKS BUDDY!!!
Dude you have so much patience. It's a shame that they make these adjustment screws so difficult accessible. They should be very accessible. Nice Video thank you for your time making it.
This is what I have been looking for the last few days. Just got my carbs put back in after a clean and looking for an example on how to do this. Awesome
Great video..have the same sounding popping in carb and backfire on newly aquired 1985 sr500.Found the fuel mixture screw (near engine ) so will start at 2 turns out and go from there..
Great Video! I have had the similar problem with my 1982 750 Maxim. I'm going to start re-adjusting the screws and see what happens. Thanks for your time!
I just Wanted to say thank you so much for this video. I have a 2000 Yamaha R1 and have been struggling with the exact symptoms you talked about with backfires while idling and Narly decel pops since the ex-up delete and Graves ais delete. I'm gonna adjust my pilots tomorrow and make sure there all still in sync and then RIDE!!!!! So thank you again for all the pro tips and help on clear step by step instructions on your videos.. 🤙✌️
I just want to thank you for your video it's the reason my Yamaha r1 is now fixed. the previous owner for some reason had all the fuel mixture screws closed all the way in I didn't noticed and thought the carb was clogged I took the carb off multiple times to clean and couldn't figure out why it was running so lean the bike popped on deceleration and ran like poop after your video it now runs like a beast and no popping
Yamir929 This is music to my ears! Great job for figuring it out brother. Glad this video was able to point you in the right direction! Be careful out there!
XworksTV I can't seem to locate the proper screws. Any chance you can send me a PM with a picture of the proper screws. The frame is all in my way haha.
Good video.. Video tip: You can "soften" the chest light by placing a layer of self-sticking Glad Press 'n Seal over the light. This will spread the light more evenly and reduce the glare off the shiny bits.. and it's easily removed...
Hi Cody, great video and the explanations you gave near the end were very clear and will be very helpful in trying to tune the GSF400 I'm resurrecting!! If possible, it'd be great to see a video of this procedure on an inline 4 to hear the sounds diference between a 4 and a v-twin. A tip, I do film lighting for a living, wear long sleeves when you arms are so close to your light source. The reflection from you bare arms is bouncing back and messing with you camera's focus so the area you're working on isn't as clear as it could be. :):)
Thanks. I decided to show my wife I can fix a 02 Honda shadow spirit VT750 that her X left behind. It sat for nearly two years because it had a problem three "Bike" guys couldn't solve. Im an I.T. tech and I got it working. It wouldn't start before. I got it started but had to do a lot of small things like replace the battery, fuel pump relay and rebuild the carb. It runs and I can ride it but I am having many of the carb problems you described. I have adjusting it and am still getting some pops on the decal and funky hesitation on acceleration. Been having a hard time pinning down the perfect mixture. I wanted to hear the sound of a good working carb and im hoping that now that I hear the sound and your explanation of what certain sound like long BRAAAA! indicate, I am going try another adjustment today when I get home. Problem is its so damned hot here in San Antonio and the sun hits right into the garage so after five minutes im dying in my pool of sweat. lol. I have never had a motorcycle license or really drivin a bike. I drive a stick so learning to ride the bike up and down the street as I fix it has been easy. Im going to buy the bike for $300 from my wifes X and learn and eventually ride it so this video is a big help on just how it should sound with mostly OEM parts and no mods. Cheers.
Good video! I own 25 bikes and have done this with every one with good results. I truly believe it is the ethenol in the fuel now that is causing the lean idle mixture condition.
I've been a mechanic all my life and have been taught this before but I have thoroughly enjoyed these videos. Learning and doing mechanic work is what I love to do. I am going to play with my KLR 650 now which pops on decel and am fairly certain I have it to lean. I have taken out the baffle at the end of the exhaust so it doesn't sound like a lawn mower but still have catalytic converters and did not want to risk a problem with them. Anyway thanks for the teaching.
great explanation! I'm currently trying to learn carburetor basic. I'm trying to get my yamaha dragstar to work with pod filters without changing nozzles :) (and it also has adjustment screws under the cover).
I paid a solid 3 digits for my bike, because it would not run. $7 worth of plugs and i was riding, got to drop my first ever bikewave lol. looking forward to your videos as i turn my POS into a very nice first bike. thank you
BRO! replacing the thermostat this week to get my bike back up an running, and was contemplating messing with the A/F mixture, gonna do it for sure. still a little nervous about drilling into the carbs but i should be able able to pull it off. looking forward to my "new to me" bike running well again.
An additional tip I would give is at 4:02 to make sure to turn your fuel line to OFF before you remove the fuel line, otherwise you will have gas spilling out of your tank.
Thanks for this great video and all the explanations. I have a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit - have some acceleration backfire, and at idle as well just like in this video. Now I at least know where to start next weekend!
Hey Cody, just saw your video on "Deceleration Backfire: Tuning your carburetor" and found it extremely helpful. I just finished the clean up of the dual carbs on my 2000 V Star 1100 but have been having a hell of a time getting them adjusted. Since it appears that you work primarily on Honda, I'm hoping that a lot of the information about tuning transfers over to the Yamaha carbs. Chances are they both use Mikuni carburetors so the responses mimic one another. Right now as a starting point the OEM adjusting screws are set at three turns out but the engine response sounds very similar to the lean setting you illustrated in your video. Uneven idle, backfire, misfire and idle stop. I've ordered new thumbs screw style adjusting screws because it is next to impossible to adjust on the fly with the mixture screws inset and under the carbs with little to no space allowed to get any tooling in to adjust. Thanks for the video and I'm feeling positive that this will be an answer to my carburetor problems.
OMG! You are the man!!! Thank you so much! Factory had my air/fuel mixture screw only a half turn out then covered it up with the Welch plug. Absolutely no reason to apologize for sounding like a dork with the engine idle/rev sound effects. When I rev it takes a while to come back down. Now I know that's too lean, will open up the mix screw some more so it drops down faster. Thanks for showing me how to tune my bike. Performance 100% improved and will only get better with further adjustment. Feel bad for the guy who owned the bike for 13 yrs and didn't know about that welch plug. I'll bet that bike has always run like garbage until now.
Perfect demonstration of proper technique. Thank you for sharing this knowledge with the rest of the world!! I'm going to apply this technique to my vstar 650 tomorrow!
I have a VT750 and I was able to do that without taking the tank off or the throttle cable assembly. Just drill a small hole in the Welch plug and use a wood screw to pull it out. My bike has Cobra slip ons and 3.25 turns out worked perfectly.
While you may think you sounded like a dork, you accurately described exactly what my bike was doing after I fiddled with the pilot screw. (The taking longer to return to idle problem) So now I know it is running lean and I need to open it more. (I have the "D" head screw on my carb so it's not so easy to adjust.) Thanks for your time and making this and all the other videos. Kudos.
aquaman0167 So glad I was able to "speak the language" in a way that makes sense! I think you hit the nail on the head with turning the mix out for the fix! 👌🤙
Amazing video, just what I needed for my Vstar. Thanks! EDIT - I just did what you instructed and my Vstar now runs like a dream. All back firing gone. Thanks!
What up Cody, Watched all your videos regarding carburation and jetting. I've been bought up on 2 strokes 😁. I'd like to say thankyou dude for guiding me to set up my Honda cbr1000f , she's now running like a Rolex watch now😉💪. Best regards dude , Rich in the UK 🏴🍺👍
Ive got to say cody, its a good video. So much detail explained.good job man, had same issues 1 clynder not working as wll. I will go to the carb first. Thanks man
With a long drill bit i was able to do this with my tank and throttle still on. thank you for your video it gave me the curage to do it myself and my 05 shadow sabre 1100 has never sounded so good.
This was really a great video. It's the actual management of the circuits working together you covered and that is on the fly super advise. Thankyou so much!
Your videos are helping me mid my vtx 1300, and restore my cm450a and my cb650 nighthawk. Thanks for the info, man. Hopefully this will help me get the x jet done and carb tuned successfully. 🤙🏼
I just got my first bike last week. Honda shadow 1100. Thing runs great but I really enjoy these vids! The moment you did that first half turn and got the idle sounding much better was like magic to me lmao
great work as always Cody. I would like to give you one of my tips for plug removal. instead of drilling out to such a large size I drill a small hole in the plug and than insert a screw and pull the plug out. it has worked great for me for years.
acerider2005 Absolutely. That’s been my dads go to since the 80’s. Use a small bit then a pick to pull it out to keep everything clean and undamaged. Sometimes they can be in there pretty good though.
This was an amazing video thank you very much! I have a a Yamaha Vstar 1100. I took the muffler off, so I'm running straight pipes, the deceleration backfires are ungodly loud. I knew it was lean but didn't know how to properly deal with it. This will be my project tomorrow. You sir have a new subscriber
Great Vid man! I'm subbed! I'm from New Zealand and I have a Kymco Super 8 50-2T which I bought brand new off the showroom floor, I've had nothing but problems with starting issues, power loss, low idle/ stalling issues, backfiring on deceleration and Ive been back to the dealership many times and its still not been fixed I only have about three months of warranty left, they adjusted the Floater on the last service and it seemed to run a lot better but its now doing the same things but even worse, my top speed has dropped by about 8 KM/ph and throttle response is.... well none existant! The cap on the pilot screw has not been touched so I know it has not been adjusted (i have read in many forums that this screw has been miss adjusted from factory) and missed during QC. I will be doing exactly what you have shown in your video this weekend, I will hope to harness the power of the gods and laugh in the dealerships face if it was this that has been causing all my issues. I will report back after adjusting. Thank you for your very easy and informative Video... Keep it up!!
Great video!! I have a Vstar 1100 that I bought and have the deacceleration backfire as well. It has custom aftermarket pipes that I believe caused the problem or the bike might have been stored too long with old gas. I was going to get into taking the carbs off and cleaning, but after seeing this video, I will go with the adjustment route first. Again, GREAT VIDEO!!
I have a 1100 v star , iv been fiteing a backfire for a year . plugs carb,s rebuild coil fuel nothing worked .I watched this vid. I turned out my mixture and it works perfect .
Thank you so much, I watched two of your videos today and it helped me understand what's going on and hopefully I will be able to fix my decel popping. Cheers!
Thank you My 2003 Honda VT 750 runs much better I also checked for Vacuum leaks before doing the procedure and I knew the carbs were clean I had them apart a few years ago also I replaced the Air Filter and the Fuel filter before doing the adjustments. Again Thank You :-)
I’m pretty much addicted to this content. Cody….damn I wish we lived in the same area. I am beyond thankful for the info packed videos. I pulled my carbs last night and installed a jet kit and used these videos to make it a hassle free install. HIGHLY UNDERRATED CHANNEL 2000 Honda Shadow VT100C 57,xxx. Go Ride :)
Hey Todd! You installed jets? Were they Cobra jets by any chance? That's what I'm running and posted a question to Cody to see if he can listen to it and see if it's running ok.
On my V Star 650, I had deceleration backfire and did some research. By disabling or removing the AIS, the backfire should go away. I went ahead and followed the instructions, and the backfire was gone. I left the AIS in place in case I ever sold the bike and needed to return it to stock. There is no emission testing here, so the AIS isn't needed. The carbs were rejetted for the Jardines that were installed previous to the AIS bypass. The previous owner wasn't aware of this mod apparently. Works perfectly now.

A 99 honda magna has 4 carburetors. Is this possible on 4 carbs? Can u get to all 4 plugs?
Sounds like it's starving for air
Good looking bike but I'm not a fan of those style pipes. They make nearly every bike no matter what it is sound like a 250 rebel
Sounds like new.

Great vid, you explain the adjustments well. The vid can help people who need to get their bike running correctly. Thanks. Subscribed.
This is the best video I've found on UA-cam for proper adjustment of the fuel mixture after changing jets, pipes or airbox. Plus, you are an excellent teacher.

I just want to thank you for taking the time and posting it. I followed it to the T and all went well. Thanks again. John
John Masell Hey John, so glad that you were able to apply this video directly to your own bike! It is very satisfying and encouraging to hear this!

So far you have helped out a lot. I have the 1979 Limited Edition CB750K that you did the carb sync on. I had removed the baffles to discover incredible power waiting. After restoring her in Spring 2021, I had a Vintage Motorcycle co, tune so to get it past inspection.

Just a little back fire to watch on Cylinder 1 -
Thanks again for your help and for reading this -
Thanks for having the balls to try imitating the engine sound. It actually helped understanding. ❤️
It’s a big thing music people do too with certain sounds 😉🤷♂️

Hey Cody {PonyTail} Brother of 2down..
I've been riding all my life 8 on 3 speed 13 YZ490 ,street bikes beating up the trails 23 Harleys sporty,Heritage street to now vt750 was my RIP Dad passed to me I'm no mechanic and You all guys have been Very much helping me work on..Thanks Again keep'em coming
i owe you an adult drink mixture or 2 for all the knowledge you've shared, and time, money and sanity you've saved me
Just wanted you to know, I did take your advise seriously the other day about having screws turned out to far.
+JBHobbyist That’s what I’m talking about man!!! Nice job 🤙
Don’t you just love it when a solid plan works out?! So glad you got the result you wanted man. Enjoy it brother!
Im a master HVAC mechanic and I can tell you, This Dude is a really good mechanic! Take note.
Im not trying to be rude im actually curious what is an HVAC mechanic.

@@larryclarke7793 oh ok cool. thanks
cool, tell me more about how gasoline engines are similar to air conditioning again?
@@keeganlangford5580 Well, sarcastically, I'd say "mechanical" ! ! ! !
Hey Nicholas, I have a '96 Shadow 1100 Shadow as well. So was it just those two screws which solved your issue? I'm getting slight backfiring
I watched this when you first put it out and got my bike running 100 times better. And now, I'll occasionally re-watch this vid to remind myself how to make these adjustments if I need to.
Thanks Cody. U da man!
That last minute of advice you gave is exactly what I needed to hear, your an excellent teacher brother.
I've watched a lot of videos in the last few days and by far this is the best I've seen yet, great work my friend
now you solved my problem for my bike! Absolute must watch ladies and gentlemen!
Kelly R Johnson I wonder if the pilot jet is too small?
@@CIarkNova Probably so. I did end up drilling out the plugs and fiddling with the air mix - the bike rides just fine but still backfires on decel and doesn't want to rev without any load. I'll be yanking plugs and replacing them soon.
I just popped out my baffles out of a set stock harley slip ons on my honda vtx1300, and I'm back firing, too, on deceleration. I'm glad I found this video. Thanks.
Literally the firsy carb tune video that explains the air mixture ty god
Hi there Doc, well I been wrenching for over 50 years taught 9 and you did a great job explaining the mixture adjustments and getting it done.
I always have used dorky sounds to explain the engine working or asak for them in diagnosing a customer complaint. Keep up the good work!!!
Been having issues getting my 75 cb 750 running clean. This and other video on syncing carbs has been more helpful than any other videos. And I've watched them all.
Actually seeing the carbies getting a tune up and hearing the result, is brilliant thank you
It’s a great pleasure watching a great motorcycle mechanic
+bnnken Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Same as other posters, I also could NOT get my gs500 twin running right, couldn't find help with gs500 specifically, but within 5 minutes of watching this I had my idle perfect and no longer hanging and popping.
I dont care what you sound like. A smart guy will appreciate the help.
hi Cody, jjust wanted to let you know, I just bought a very well taken care of, honda shadow 750 ace(the bike is like new), except for the exhaust which somebody removed the baffles, and the bike had a rough idle and backfire with your explanation, I followed most of it except for removing the seat and gas tank. The idle is so much more healthier, and backfire it had is gone. I get some popping sounds but not as loud as it was. Thanks for the great video. Tony
Thanks Tony! Great job for giving the bike the love it needed! Ride safe out there!
its been 2 weeks since I made these adjustments, what I am now having issues with is not only is it still backfiring as I slow down , on acceleration as I roll on the throttle, it bogs before the actual vroom and go, if you know what i mean.
Thank you man ! I’ve had a backfire for over a year now hopefully this helps me out tomorrow !
Cody . Man you are awesome brother. You and your videos have helped me a lot. Just want to say thank you and I appreciate you making these videos.
Wow thank you so much for this comment!
How did your 2000 R1 like the settings? I have a 2002 fzs1000 with exup deleted and it's doing the same thing.
My fzs1000 has the same motor as 98-01 R1.
XworksTV Dude my 2000 R1 is running like poo. I'm now convinced this is my dilemma, based on your comment. I hope this solves the issue.
Bullock Wagon good luck it's an easy fix if it is just a turn of the screws in each carburetor
XworksTV I can't seem to locate the proper screws. Any chance you can send me a PM with a picture of the proper screws. The frame is all in my way haha.
Bullock Wagon there is one per carburetor it's on the bottom of each carburetor by the float bowl it's a copper Flathead screw
Good video.. Video tip: You can "soften" the chest light by placing a layer of self-sticking Glad Press 'n Seal over the light. This will spread the light more evenly and reduce the glare off the shiny bits.. and it's easily removed...
dude, holy shit... Where have your videos been my whole life? How did I just now find your channel? You need to be known, Subscribed!
+idkman 🤙🤙
Hi Cody, great video and the explanations you gave near the end were very clear and will be very helpful in trying to tune the GSF400 I'm resurrecting!! If possible, it'd be great to see a video of this procedure on an inline 4 to hear the sounds diference between a 4 and a v-twin.
A tip, I do film lighting for a living, wear long sleeves when you arms are so close to your light source. The reflection from you bare arms is bouncing back and messing with you camera's focus so the area you're working on isn't as clear as it could be. :):)
+Chris Chalk This is actually a fantastic tip! I did not know this!! Thank you for your feed back!
Scott Miller Nail on the head Scott! So easy and so practical!
I've been a mechanic all my life and have been taught this before but I have thoroughly enjoyed these videos. Learning and doing mechanic work is what I love to do. I am going to play with my KLR 650 now which pops on decel and am fairly certain I have it to lean.
I have taken out the baffle at the end of the exhaust so it doesn't sound like a lawn mower
but still have catalytic converters and did not want to risk a problem with them. Anyway thanks for the teaching.
With all the videos I've watched for research, this one is the most understandable. I will work as you advise, man! Thanks!!
great explanation!
Excellent explanation...! You have open my eyes. :) best wishes for you! Straight from Warsaw in Poland!
An additional tip I would give is at 4:02 to make sure to turn your fuel line to OFF before you remove the fuel line, otherwise you will have gas spilling out of your tank.
Got the same problem on my virago. Gonna try to adjust the mixture. Thanks for the video!
Great demo of tuning the carbs and explaining the desired result
Plus... the tune on that 750 sounds immaculate
Thanks for this great video and all the explanations. I have a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit - have some acceleration backfire, and at idle as well just like in this video.
Now I at least know where to start next weekend!
+Andre Kadibelban Hope it cures the issue!
THANK YOU CODY!!! Awesome video. I know how to deal with things now. I'm stoked! Super cool of you, man!
🤙🏻🤙🏻
I agree, this is the best video about adjusting your carb. Thanks bro
+Anatolie Murug Thank you!!
Best video I have ever seen on this procedure. Well done.
Thanks for taking your time to make the video!
You're a great teacher. You explain the hows and the whys equally well. This helped me so much. Thanks!
Just picked up a 99 with the same issue today for 1500 bucks thanks for the assistance
Bro, I just did this on my bike and si far so good. It already idles muuuch better!
Did this on my 98 Honda Aero thanks to this video. Great explanation. Worked like a charm! Thanks!!!
Steve Goodwin love hearing this! 🤙🤙
After a few videos watched, this one earned my sub!! Well done.
I agree
Thanks!
This is the most helpful video I’ve ever watched , thank you so much !
What up Cody,

Great tip to make it run "better than out of the box"!

Fantastic video. Im doing this to cure my popping on decceleration. Thank you.
great work as always Cody.
Cheers!
Awesome Mathew improved my performance 100% you are the man
Really good explination on whats happening on the inside.
Thank you man, it was extremely simple and informative!
Good stuff man! Thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge with us, and teaching an old dog a new trick.

Hey Todd! You installed jets? Were they Cobra jets by any chance? That's what I'm running and posted a question to Cody to see if he can listen to it and see if it's running ok.
@@mr.recruiterp3583 Dynojet jet kit, Cobra Slip Ons, K&N air filter.
