Bro, I just did the same thing. The braid trick definitely works. It is totally worth keeping a few feet rolled up and stowed for just this reason. Yank it, then go back to fishing!
Never been hooked while also hooked to a fish...I'd imagine thats pretty rough but dude handled it well, he clipped the line, disconnected the hook from the lure and kept on fishin. I'm an idiot,I'd probably show up at an ER with the fish still connected lol
Any time there is trouble hooks involved I keep my hands away until the fish has settled way way down grab some needle nose pliers and zip the fish off not a once in my 40 plus years of fishing have I been stuck
