Hey Matt fellow UA-camr here I’ve been on the road for four years, I recently settled my parents estate that spent some time, urban camping in the driveway, and I inherited quite a lot of gear from the home. Now, my travel buddy likes using this gear so she has all the necessities for cooking whatever she wants to cook, but we very little space in our 12 foot off-road camper and the Jeep combined. I’d love to see a video where you do a full load out of everything you guys are using on your rig. to pair down some of the stuff. We literally have one medium size, black and yellow storage bin full of cooking stuff plus I have two front runner bins full of my normal kitchen stuff.

Still have to put it together though lol.

For camp chairs, I will allow for extra space to bring along my GCI Freestyle Rocker. I'm a bigger person and it holds my bulk nicely, and rocking in front of a campfire seriously can't be beat. I also have the GCI Roadtrip Rocker that packs down nicely, but if I had to choose one or the other, with space not a consideration, the Freestyle rocker would be my choice. I'm intrigued by the Front Runner for size considerations, but I'm not entirely sure it would be comfortable for a Gentleman Of Unusual Size. I may try one out this year and see.

Love your reviews of the stuff you actually use and really put through their paces. It would be good to know from the viewer's standpoint what you purchased and what was given to you. I'm probably more forgiving on drawbacks if it's free, but like that Rux bag - it's great, but for $300 I'll find a more budget option, plus all of the other add ons you had it's closer to $500...to store chips and bread. If I got it for free, it would be great.

We carry a ARB 50qt two section and it has worked best whether our trip is a week or when we went three months traveling to Alaska. We travel in a F-150 pulling a nucamp 400 BDL and the ARB sits behind the front passenger seat (that section of the back seat lifts up. We can get about 4-5 days worth of food and then another 2-3 in the fridge in our nucamp. For power, during travel the ARB runs off the truck DC (nice port on the back of the console). If we park for a break of longer than an hour, I have a small lithium battery system that I’ll plug the ARB into. In an emergency, it can ran the ARB for almost 18-hrs. Have the original Fire Can and just a few weeks ago on a camping trip, we used a medium size Dutch Oven skillet and cooked breakfast and dinner. Did cook one meal with a small skillet but had to be very careful it tipped off the Fire Can.

Matt, for some new sleep systems please look into Zenbivy sleep systems. Mike the owner has EXPED style foam self inflating pads, along with some blow up ones and all 5 r value or above.
BUT, it’s their sheet and down quilts that blow me away. And I think you two would appreciate their size, to feel, to warmth. Check em out and see if Mike would send you a few down options and their 30 inch wide pad pads.

Great video. One comment on the Cliq chairs. We have 4 of the originals and I love everything about them except the rubber feet wore out very quickly on all 4, and there is no way to replace them (I checked with Cliq). Fine on a hard surface, but in dirt or sand, the metal legs without the rubber feet sink easily. My only complaint with them, and the reason I won't replace them.

Hi Mat, A good vid idea for a nube like me would be how you deal with nitty gritty camping duties that no one addresses....i.e. do you just dump garbage in your tailgate garbage bag and wash it out when you get home, or do you use liners? How do you clean your kitchen gear after a meal? (pots, pans, silverware cups etc.) Water being at a premium. It would seem to me some kind of clean up would be required to keep large 4 legged omnivores out of your tent at night. Sorry for being a noodle head about this...

    WRT the Cliq chair.
I've got a great chair (BIG) with "hard" (important ) arm rests that I pull out when we are staying for more than a night or two. . As much as I like my Helinox style chair for a quick and dirty chill fest for long term lounging - Hard Arm Rests (a/w drink & phone holder) R GOLD...
So - Do you miss not having a proper hard arm rest on the Cliq???

  • @marceld6061
    @marceld6061 3 місяці тому

Clic chair looks sweet. I would prefer one with a higher back like the 'wind chime chair' I currently use. I have the Jetboil Genesis Basecamp. The included pot and pan are generous but not oversized. I also have a smaller MSR 4 pot kit for the times I don't need the larger ones. I agree about the GerberGear ComplEAT set. I almost pulled the trigger on it but I have enough pots. The ability to stack everything in one kit is a nice feature but not worth the price. I would consider ditching the MSR kit if Gerber came out with a 2 person kit like you mentioned. IIRC, the bag for the kit can be used as a wash sink? We bought the InstaPrivy last year but haven't gone out where we have needed to use it yet. It currently sits in the Jeep for those "just in case" situations. You never know when nature is going to suddenly call!

Every considered a TemboTusk? Or would you still prefer a jet boil? Great video!

I've had a Skottle in the past. Honestly I wasn't a fan. I've got friends that absolutely love them though.

For the jetboil burner, hows that do in the wind? Whats good about the coleman is that it has the wind guards but its bulky as.

@1995Kakashi I've been using the Jetboil Genesis for two seasons and no, it's not great in the wind. It comes with a flimsy plastic wind shield that isn't very good. That's the *only* downside to the Genesis. I've had two camp stoves for the last 35 years--the other was (is) a Coleman white gas suitcase-style from the early 1990s. It hurt like heck to replace it with the Jetboil, but after the first use in the wild, I was convinced I made the right choice. But yeah, in high wind, you have to shelter it a bit.

If your ICECO has issues can you repair it, or do you have to throw it out and buy a new one?

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures

The only issue I’ve had is with a VL60 that wouldn’t keep the temps set. IceCo replaced it under warranty.

Curious why now just run a topper -aka camper shell - to keep the dust and weather off all your gear in the back instead of that rack system?
