Great intro to a very cool plugin! 👍👍 Pardon the reference to a tired old cliché, but you did a great job of establishing that 'the possibilities are truly endless'.👍👍 I'm an old fart, so seeing the Spatializer triggered thoughts of quadraphonic speaker set-ups applied to ambient music. 😎 My only wish...too bad there isn't a 'Beiber mangler' function... 😉😁 (p.s. Your dry sense of humour is fantastic...although the image of 'audio vomit' & chopping up the pieces in your DAW did have me putting down my sandwich for a moment or two... 🤢😉😁 )
I just snagged this the other day with a PA fidy voucher... cuz I'm kind of a granular fanatic, and I love UA's plugins. Absolutely love Triad, SpecOps, Sandman Pro etc. When I first saw SILO it reminded me a lot of that badass binaural/ambisonic granular plugin "DUST" by SoundMorph, but both DUST and SILO definitely have their own thing going on. I'm looking forward to deep diving SILO & hearing what it's capable of.
Thanks for the great demonstration. Love seeing how far granular technology came over the last couple of years. Now waiting for Brian Eno's take on granular synthesis & effects.
Thanks for the video, I just bought Silo because of your review! I was hesitating with Arturia efx_fragments but prefered Silo. I hope Silo v2 will have modulators assignable to the different parameters for more madness.
Great demo/review. Thinking about picking this up for mastering purposes actually. Seems like a cool tool for adding depth/space in subtle and very cool ways.
Triad is SO good. If I ever hit a Sound Design "writer's block" I just open Triad and start randomizing things. Every time I play with it I find the weirdest/most interesting sounds.
This could Unfiltered Audios best yet. The interface is so easy to use and encourages experimentation I got some amazing stuff without reading the manual. Great Vid Cam with some cool tips. A must have for sound design
Very good video Cameron. Thank you. (Funny to see how some plugins seem to mimic the typical max 4 live graphics. I think a lot of developers have been working with M4L before or look for inspiration on the M4L forum.)
Portal is great, even better that you can rent-to-own it. I also use Lagrange (UrsaDSP) and Bubbler++ (SoundHack), free granular delay plugins that are worth trying out imo.
Hearing you say bout the mother in that voice with the elevator tune was brain wise a David Lynchy effect:)) Cool software and review at the right speed, subscribed
Downloading the free trial from Plugin Alliance now. Will probably buy it 10 minutes later! Have to say Unfiltered Audio are pretty good. I already use their Sandman delay and Triad, which is bonkers. I don't think Silo will disappoint.
Silo is an amazing granulator, sounds really good and fun to use. It reminds alot of the old, very old now defunct Riverrun by AudioEase, which is a true compliment since that one was amazing and sounded gorgeous. Now, speaking of grains... Pretty curious to hear you about that new granular effect by Arturia, called Fragments. Solid contender to Silo I think...
@@agreen9903 Update - looks like since I already had a UA product (although dearVR would have worked as well), the price was $79.99. And then I had a $25 loyalty voucher. I now have SILO lol
@@JasonGillmanJr I've got plugin alliance mix and master monthly subscription so I've got silo now lol good job this video popped up or I might have missed it
I got the trial not expecting to be extremely wowed, but damn. This is a *FINE* plugin! Especially when syncing buffer size and rate to the tempo, you can get insane stuff thats still rhythmical and the euclidian masks just shine! And freezing the buffer and scrupping through allows for insane pads and textures... Everything I ever wanted from a granular processor, really. And additionally, the spatializer in 3D-Pitch-Mode allows for some cool, tape-ish warbly stuff with its Doppler-Effect. Don't really have the 129,99€ right now (although tthat really is a fair price), and I already dread the end of my 14-day-trial, but I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for the next sale!
Love the playback of the frozen sample with Granular playability via midi. Live granular mangling with pitch playability....take my money and say no more......can’t go wrong with Unfiltered Audio
when the drum loop began it sounded like hysteresis from glitchmachines, hard to control without constant bouncing of the audio and then sorting it out
I love love love it been having a lot of fun messing with it. My ONE wish is that there’s eventually an update with the trademark modulation section for stuff like the filter on the reverb section or on the freeze or triggering buttons etc
We just bought house too, welcome to the fun world of sum pumps, ice damns, property disputes, gained/lost equity..... It's awesome, seriously congratulations.
Hi. Always exciting to see a new granular effects plugin. I guess for 25 dollars with voucher one can't go too wrong here. Some granular EFX plugins are extremely latency heavy. Is this part okay for you with SILO? Thank you.
For 25 usd it's a must have. It depends on your settings but it can be pretty much latency free. However if you mess with the grain speed and play head speed you can create literal delays 😉
@@SyntheticFuture cool. Thank you. I have the unparalled Crusher-X. But I'm also looking for a efficient mixing tool. I especially love such granular effects for dry parallel mixing. They are amazing for adding interest to dull tracks when used subtle. Cheers
Thanks for that demo, it really pointed out some pretty unique features of Silo. Using Midi to control the pitches: I am not aware of other granuluar effects doing this (but don't not too many), which I find surprising, but this opens IMHO great sound crafting possibilities. Or the possiblity to use SILO as a kind of PaulStretch: again very cool. Anyhow, I missed a remark on the CPU-usage: Depending on the settings, this can be pretty high. Apart, from that: Lucky me, I got mine yesterday for 29.99,. To me, Silo ist not a granular reverb, but a sort of "Texturalizer", and now I am lokking forward to create some nice amibent drones with this thing. Feeding it, of course, apart from samples, with sounds from the Lion :-)
i was keeping my eye on GRAINSCAPES , but after couple of minutes, which turned into hour, tweaking some knobs, must say - this is absolutely Beast of a software.. I do have Arturia's EFX and GRAINDAD as well. GRAINDAD can be also fun but its bit more complex than SILO, but definitely with same Sonic capability. To me; EFX Fragments lacks Chaos, although its very well made module, that can be your only granular module, its still not that accidental, like SILO. I think all mentioned GFX are very good and can handle most of granular stuff, still surprised with SILO tho...
I love unfiltered audio tools. Im actually surprised this doesn’t have lfo’s to automate control movements. Will have to download the demo to try it out.
Is there such a thing as a synthasizer recipe book? I know how to use a synthasizer but I don’t know what to use to make a sound from scratch, please can you help me please. Thanks p.s I love your channel and how you explain things 😊💯

I'm too old to be a hipster, but I still might check this out. It sounds like a vert nice granulizer. I'm looking for something with an alternative sound to Clouds.
Well, since Waves Ltd. pulled that absolute dick move recently, I began looking for a replacement for Brauer Motion and although SILO does some of what I am looking to do, it is a bit more chaotic than BM. However, I'm actually warming up to the chaotic nature of the spacializer in SILO. SILO is a fantastic piece of code. Many thanks for all of your hard work Cameron.
Wow this plug is a revolution . It look like padshop and crystaliser. A New kind of matter. I like it . Thank you for your excellent présentation . To fuck drums to create space and atmospheric music . So big. I already see the automation with lfo from max into live .
I have but I don't own the rights to the vocals so sadly I can't share it =( And my own singing is something I'd rather not subject the world to. If you know a good source for royalty free vocals I'm all ears 😎
There's a bug that we've fixed here where if anti-aliasing is enabled you can get clicks on the right side of the buffer. Turn AA off in the settings to fix it and/or wait for an update. Sorry!
indeed. Dust also gives gravity fields that are cool, convolution reverb, multiple samples for the emitters, and you can program your own movements. It also looks like some Max ensemble used in Ableton.
What do you think of SILO?
