Live, in front of ~60K people, at the opening of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, and a simultaneous live broadcast to millions around the world (I watched it in Hong Kong). Had forgotten, but an athlete had died that day in a practice run, and KD came out & did THIS. THIS is God-given talent -no fru-fru, no on-stage distractions, just KD singing her heart out. Awesome performance/ performer.
This woman has the voice of an angel..... no auto tune for her. That's pure magic! Her tribute to Roy Orbison "Crying" is amazing. One of her obscure songs is called "Barefoot" where is sings a few notes and you'd swear she is a WOLF! By the way it was her birthday a few days ago :)
To me, one of the funniest stories about k.d. Lang is that when she came out as gay, the country music industry had no problem. But good lord, when she came out as being vegetarian people lost their freaking minds.
She is singing live from the 2020 Opening Ceremony at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The "Maestro" himself who wrote 'Hallelujah" said KD's version was his favourite. He was a poet, singer, songwriter (May he rest in Peace).
She sang this in the opening night ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics that were held in Vancouver, Canada. All the people in the lower levels were Olympic athletes from all the Countries.
She won four Grammy awards between 1989 and 2004: 1989 - Best Country Collaboration with Vocals (with Roy Orbison) for _Crying_ 1990 - Best Female Country Vocal Performance for _Absolute Torch and Twang_ 1993 - Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for _Constant Craving_ 2004 - Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for _A wonderful World_ (with Tony Bennet) She was nominate another 7 times during that period. Has some great albums.
Thanks for this. I was there that night (I live in Vancouver) and, as always when listening to our KD, was rooted to the spot listening to her. Her voice is so pure and so powerful that she filled the stadium. I love and respect Leonard Cohen, but this is my favourite version of the song we know so well. Her albums are a journey unto themselves. Take the trip sometime.
The song writer, Leonard Cohen said this song belongs to kd lang after he heard her sing this. Kd & Leonard Cohen are both Canadian which makes us Canadians very proud. By the way Cohen wrote 87 verses for this song.
You hit the right one!!! This was the ALL TIME BEST -- Our Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Olympics. 🍁 Besides the audience in the Olympic Stadium; this was broadcast all across Canada on CBC television, and on NBC in the US.
Actually, if it wasn't for K.D. Lang and this song I would never have found PTX. I heard her performance and was so impressed that I started searching for other covers of Hallelujah which led me to PTX. To me KD's version is crazy good as is PTX's...love both renditions!!
lots of people because this performance is for the opening of the 2010 Vancouver BC Olympics. But if you watch her sing the same song, in Winnepeg, Canada, she has a huge audience there too (and IMO, she sang the song better there) they give her a standing ovation. Very popular singer.
Winter Olympics in 2010 Vancouver, B.C. I'm Canadian & remember the horrible tragedy that happened before the games even started with the death of one of the athletes. It was a sad way to begin & I think K.D. did the whole situation justice with this song. Great reaction.
She sang "Crying" at a Tribute for Roy Orbison. They also sang a duet of this song written by Roy Orbison. I've heard her sing several times, and they've always been live. Not with all the bells and whistles of a studio.
They asked Leonard Cohen to perform this at the Olympic Gala and he told them to ask K.D. to do it because "it is her song now". For me, this version is great but even better is the version she sang in front of Leonard Cohen on the night he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Check that one out too. Also, her performance of Crying at an event in memory of Roy Orbison. She and Roy recorded it together before he died and released as a duet. She sang it solo to honour him. Thanks for your analysis and for sharing.
I love how each time she sings this song she brings a different rendition, and they are all magnificent! I watched this live during the opening of the winter Olympics. I watched the opening just to hear her. My all-time favorite singer.
@@geebrewer8186 I'd have to go find it again. I don't believe I've heard her Australia version. But the award show one, to me, she had just the right amount of cynicism or irony in her tone, and it was magnificent.
@@karehelene the breath control she shows in the last 3 Hallelujah's in this performance is amazing. Not as "acted' as the Juno awards tho. ua-cam.com/video/--FrDSx-21k/v-deo.htmlsi=tr9sOJUmeSWdWoph
This performance especially shows why Cohen himself said her renditions are by far the best ever including his🤘🏽 (btw you cut off the last few moments: it returns briefly)
No, the best version was the one Cohen attended and he & his partner said as such: ua-cam.com/video/YYiMJ2bC65A/v-deo.html "After hearing KD Lang perform that song [Hallelujah] at the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2006 we [Leonard Cohen & I] looked at each other and said, “Well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It’s really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection.” Anjani Thomas, Leonard Cohen’s backup singer and romantic partner, quoted in “Interrupting Yr Broadcast: Anjani Thomas” by Alan Pedder (Wears the Trousers Magazine: July 8, 2008). I put out two versions one with one without and the one without is still blocked by YT for some reason sometimes I have to do that for it not get blocked sorry

I’ve often thought that she whispers a prayer for him in the gap before her final long note. If you listen closely, she quietly says a few words.

Lmao is there any clips of that
Being from Alberta and vegetarian is a big no no in their eyes. So yea worse than being gay. Blasfamy lol
She came from a small farming and ranching community, so when she spoke out against that same industry it was not taken well.
Her mom was still living in the small town. They burned crosses on her mom yard
Ha ha Remember that KD mag cover with Cindy Crawford?
I personally think this the best version of the song. She is AMAZING. And, like Leonard Cohen himself, she is Canadian.
She is singing live from the 2020 Opening Ceremony at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The "Maestro" himself who wrote 'Hallelujah" said KD's version was his favourite. He was a poet, singer, songwriter (May he rest in Peace).

Even Leonard Cohen commenting K.D. Lang’s version is better than his original version. Leonard called it is her song!
She is a Canadian icon...amazing singer. There's a lot of people because it's the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
She's one of Canada s gift to the world lady is so talented 😂
I’m in love with her voice!😮
13 years ago! and This performance still gives me goosebumps 🤩😍. Her voice !!
Love her independent voice and style! She sings with power and soul. 👍🏽🙌🏽

Barefoot!
Magical is how I would describe this performance. Her voice commands attention and she sounds like an angel. I'm always mesmerized listening to her. ❤

Leonard Cohen said that the only person who, should sing this song is KD LANG….now THAT’s the best endorsement anyone could ever ask for.
Leonard Cohen was asked to sing this song for the opening ceremony but he told them no. He said ask kd to sing the song. Either song now, not mine.
It's her song now, not mine. (Leonard Cohen).
A lot of people don't know that but it's so true that's what he said

Besides the audience in the Olympic Stadium; this was broadcast all across Canada on CBC television, and on NBC in the US.
This was KD’s performance at the Olympics in Vancouver. Both she and Leonard Cohen are from Canada.
Cohen’s personal testimony to love…he worked on it 15 plus years….fabulous!
Listen to her version of Roy Orbison’s “Crying”. 😮
She has such a unique style...love her.
Especially the MTV unplugged one which is her best one in my opinion.
You should react to KD Lang belts out
Crying. Live she is perfection
Love u KD
Shes great.
6:04 CHILLS every single time!!!! BEST rendition of this song EVER!!! Great reaction, great song, best rendition. Thanks for doing this one! Loved it!
You need to check out her tribute to Roy Orbison of his song Crying. Her voice is second to none. We love our girl🇨🇦❤
Definitely one of worlds treasures Ms KD Lang❤

It's not just the amount of people in the stadium, it's the amount of people in the palm of her hand.

Roy Orbison is smiling down from Heaven she said Roy's voice was epic now she has carried on with an epic voice !
You should have listened to the very end of the video. She really got going!
K D Lang is blue chip. The real deal
That was the Olympics.

KD is so talented!
She did this song at a Canadian award show and I believe that version is better than this one.
Yes!! Her performance of this at the Juno Awards, is even more amazing than this one!
@@anthonygeurtsen7143 To me that version was just the right blend of irony and cynicism. Definitely a different take on the song and so very good.
wasn't that in Winnepeg? Agree, it was better, but IMO the best version she has done is the Logies in Australia, the last 3 Hallelujah's are amazing.

That voice. Covered in goosebumps. ❤
I remember her signing this for the Vancouver Olympics here in Canada! Still sends chills, K.D. is a wonderful singer.
Opening ceremonies from the 2010 winter olympics in Vancouver
This was at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
She was performing at the Olympics in this video.

It’s the the opening ceremony for the 2010 Olympics, so yes a lot of peopl!!
Must watch Juno performance. Was even better
I don't understand the lyrics...but she has a beautiful voice
It's the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Canada
Opening of Olympics!
This performance especially shows why Cohen himself said her renditions are by far the best ever including his🤘🏽
(btw you cut off the last few moments: it returns briefly)
The next KDLa g video should watch is A song called Constant Craving.
it is from Montreal
Tonight in a few hours
Katie does a tribute to Roy Orbison’s crying sweetheart you got you gotta see that one respect
One of the greatest voices in generations….ouch, you don’t know who they are

Love this version. BTW... your "Copy Right" overlay is annoying and disruptive. Makes your video unwatchable.
I put out two versions one with one without and the one without is still blocked by YT for some reason sometimes I have to do that for it not get blocked sorry
There’s another better version that she does. She also does a tribute to the Olympics. It’s beautiful you need to watch that.
Her performance of this song at the Junos (do a search) is so much better than this one.
PS: silly you're acting like this was like anyone else, when it was LIVE, for the frigging OLYMPICS!!
You didn’t finish the video and missed the end
KD is a national treasure in Canadaxxx
Can’t 😮SEE HER! Out of here
Itwas Olymics!
You very much need to close your mouth when someone of her stature is singing. Thank you.
Love kd Lang but this guy talks way too much
I know right 🤣😂
