I grew in Hiiraan where the operation of the Somali national army is happening at the moment. I left Somalia in 2010 when most of the country was ruled by Alshabab. This is good news. There will be no peace and stability unless the government eliminates Alshabab. The last government was a disappointment in the fight against Alshabab but they made progress in other areas. Let us hope this government can weaken Alshabab

So, the U.S. has kinda had to go it alone, but in actuality, as this video indicates, they've been relying on Somali government troops to do most of the ground fighting, while the U.S. provided training, air support and intelligence. Occasionally, U.S. special forces conducted air raids on suspected holdouts of high-profile militant figures. That's what happened not too long ago, when reports came out that U.S. special forces killed a high profile ISIS or Al Shabaab leader in Somalia.
