Age of Empires IV - How to GET better FPS

- This video compares all the settings inside Age of Empires IV to figure out how to get better FPS while still maintaining a good-looking game. You can either try out my recommendations or make your own based of the comparisons I show in the video.
In the video I will showcase the difference in average FPS, which I will also show as a percentage difference between the different options inside the settings. And if the setting has an impact on the VRAM usage, then I will also showcase that difference between the different options, both in terms of megabytes and the percentile difference.

I am playing on a 1440p monitor upscaled to 4K while testing the game. This was done to ensure that my pc was used to its fullest but also to allow me to test the game in multiple resolutions when needed.

I noticed while playing... that the geometry detail add more eye candy features like feathers in helmets, reloads, stringed bow, etc... on high i saw that difference while in medium, is the same as low. (pardon my english if i got wrong)

I have a lap dell of 13 generation with intel core i7 1360p with nvidia geforce rtx2050 with dedicated 4gb that you recommend so that the graphics of the game look good?

Try to start with the setings I recommend in my video and then turn up or down the settings depending on your performance.

It will depend on your setup, but generally I would recommend to leave it off, as it has some latency downsides to using it.
The non existing differences in performance between different settings could come down to the fact that you're using a RTX 3090? Some visual elements it can handle so easily that the difference is negligible but on weaker hardware the difference could be higher. Or what do you think? Just a theory.
It could maybe be that, however the performance differnence between the different settings should be more or less the same, all other things being equal, no matter the GPU I am using, since the increase of the quality will put the same amount of load on the GPU. That being said, some GPU's will handle the extra load better, meaning that for a 3060 I might go from 100 to 90 fps, where to on a 3090 I would go from 200 to 180 fps. Eventhough the FPS difference is different, the procentile difference (in this case 10%) is the same, which is also why I try to emphasize that part of the performance differnce in my videos. In reality it will in some cases be more complicated than I described, but I hope this gave you some sort of answer.
@@BachTechNGames Yeah that part I understand, but when looking back on older generations of cards, I remember when some architectures really struggled with lets say for example tesselation, or particle/fog effects. Just like it is with ray tracing today. The percentage difference would vastly differ between generations of hardware when enabling tesselation while on newer cards, tesselation didn't have an impact at all eventually.
Some settings in this game could be affecting different elements similary to my examples. Either way, I will test this optimization guide on a RX 480 8GB card as soon as I get it in the mail to see if it is the same precentage numbers you get. Thanks for this guide anyway. It's a real hassle having to restart the game over and over just to change one setting. So this is much appriciated! :)

yep, i dont know what's wrong at my side but my overlay shows me constant 120fps or more, but it feels like 40/50 fps when i move the camera. nothing fixed it till now pls help its no fun to play like that
It is properly your frametimes that are causing that. You can try to lover the FPS limit, to be able to get more consistent frametimes. However that wont always work as some games, particularly strategy games are often just badly optimized in this area.

Is there any way to use the low image quality with some custom settings, like high textures, physics, geometry, etc?
No, image quality on low locks down the other settings, except for the shadow settings.
@@BachTechNGames The game is a bit beta-ish on the settings. They are working on it ( like remaking the hotkey/controls entirely etc ). When the game launched you had to go to the engine config file and change stuff there ( aoe4\user\profile.xml or something like that ). Thats also the reason that some filters were showing no difference, the game menu didnt do anything.

I think it should run fine, given that you are using an iGPU. But you will have to lower the settings.

My fps stuck at 8 I have a good pc with all these settings core i5 6th 16Gb Ram DDR4 with the card AMD Rx 570
If you FPS is stuck at 8 FPS then there is something wrong with the game or your PC, have you tried reinstalling it?
