  • This is one of the longest travel days we've had so far, so we decided to make a #travelvlog to document it for you guys!. We had to wake up at 3 AM to catch a 4:45 AM train from Plovdiv to Sofia. Then, we take a 10 hour train ride from #Sofia to #Bucharest, and don't arrive until 7 PM!
    We don't typically do videos like this where we show a day where we're traveling from one city to another. But this travel day was especially long, so we thought we'd take you along! Be sure to drop us a comment if this is something you'd like to see again :)
    Thanks so much for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe :)

    Our train system is very bad, 30 years ago was good, but not now. Our trains are slow and old. Not a lot of Bulgarians travel with trains here. I think it's kind of the same as the buses in USA, where the poor people are travelling with. Cool video! Nice work again :)

      Yeah that makes sense! We prefer trains over buses so it was just nice to not have to take the bus :) Thanks for watching!

    Hi guys, I might move to Sofia for a few years, next year. How easy was it to live there only speaking English? did you see a lot of American's or Ex-Pats? thanks

    • @JackandGabExplore
      @JackandGabExplore  4 роки тому +8

      It's a pretty international city so there were definitely a good it of foreigners there! I don't think we bumped into any other Americans though. You should definitely consider checking out Plovdiv...it's a super cool city and there are TONS of ex-pats living there. It's a big digital nomad hub! The bars and restaurants are awesome--the hipster district Kapana was our favorite neighborhood

    Interesting video, enjoyed watching it. You got lucky that you only got delayed by some 30 or so minutes when your locomotive failed. Often it takes a couple of hours to find a replacement locomotive.

    Seriously guys avoid the Bulgarian railways company - they are the worst in the whole country, people stay away. Better take a bus, it will cost 2-3 dollars more, but you will save a looooot of time :)

      I hope this is only a temporary situation. All around the world people prefer taking trains over buses for the level of comfort, reliability, speed and safety. From what I gather the service of the Bulgarian State Railways is actually better than their reputation. Once a reputation is damaged it takes a long time repair and I think some of the more recent "repair" hasn't been indexed by the population yet.
      I read all about the rebuilding of the major rail lines in Bulgaria and new trains being purchased so can't wait to see that improve the actual end-user experience. I think preferring slow and smelly buses will become a thing of the past then.

    You really should get a debit card with no foreign transaction fees or ATM fees, so if you ever need cash like you did at the train station, you can just go to an ATM and get cash. You'll get the best possible exchange rate and no fees.

      They have been in Plovdiv and Ruse which is like Arad or Bistrica in Romania, and I do think remote Bulgarian cities do look better than Romanian, because most of them are old and are still maintained good, of course without counting new buildings that does not fit with the older structures. But the capital Bucuresti and Brashow for example do look little better than many Bulgarian cities. Bucuresti is nicer than Sofia, but I think Varna and Burgas are nicer than both so hard to pick ;) ...

    • @ivo2
      @ivo2 4 роки тому

      @xRllyYes, but beauty of the city also matters for tourism so I guess Constanza must be nice because our black sea is also really really nice, nobody could guess we are relatively poor country. So they are more touristic cities and more forgotten in both countries, and the reasons our trains are less nice in some ways is that the country is smaller, so you can drive with car, but try to drive Romania... Lol, I tried, I prefer sleeping in train!
