Just ordered GCR. Exactly what I need for several different uses. Will work nicely with my Icon controller. Thanks PDP! And a merry Christmas to all there at PDP Towers!
The monitor controller actually provides a massive solution: Sonarworks VST, per monitor. So you can have different profiles per monitor. This is actually a very interesting development.
I bought a monitor controller for a few reasons. Ability to switch to mono and invert signals (without having to worry about what is being bounced internally, we’ve all bounced out a mono signal before!) Also being old enough to remember the MIDI panic function on keyboards when your MIDI went haywire and blasted out 127 to your monitors. The ability to have something that is completely separate from the computer that you can hit mute on if (admittedly it’s not 1996 now so not as likely!) something in your computer goes haywire.
For 6 months Mackie bigknob using, it not just degrade(a little bit)the sound, but the left and right is not balance(about 1-2db mismatch). Not sure it is a individual QC issue or something else. And i found press the Dim button can fix it.But it appeared again after 4 months.Sold it and use Apogee Control hardware so far so good.
Cool will check the monitor controller out.. Looks Cool... Love your videos.. I know you spend much time on them.. Your Stream was great you play well of each other.. And I have a Big old cat that loves to work on faders.. If i play a mix and leave the room i will come back to fader caps are on the floor. When he leaves the seen of the crime he some how has managed to press save on the controller and the mix is rubbish.. LOL
eh.. .. I had some problems with setting routing (M1 Mac and Quantum 4848) , but in the end I got it with the help of Sonnarworks Reference on the input. And I love it.
I honestly don't comment much but for this ... yes. Thanks guys so much for sharing about virtual monitor control! Love the channel content and especially your humorous approach. Thanks for making me smile and laugh today 😊
It seems as though Ginger Audio is in a bit of an odd state at the moment. I really want to use that software but its not possible to download it from their website.
The Ground Control Room is an excellent piece of software but as I'm mainly PC-based it a shame it's Mac only, do you know if they are working on a windows version?
Hey Philip! Thanks for watching! Go to www.gingeraudio.com/room , hit "Purchase", fill out your email address, ZIP/Postal code, and then just above where it asks you to pay by card, PayPal or Google Pay, there's a button that says "Add Coupon". Took us a minute to find it too!
Did you select this ‘silent-featured’ first-version, because Ground Control 2 majored ‘hum’..? If you’re just listening to ‘Music For Pleasure’, does that limit you to cheezy 1970’s vinyl albums of lacklustre cover versions? For this task, though, I’m still awaiting what an Audient id44 Mk2 might offer... (which should include monitor switching?)
I’m having trouble routing audio to obs, while recording live in DAW. For example, I was recording the audio coming from DAW, but it did not record my mic audio in obs, but it did in my DAW. The audio that was on my video was only from the backing track in DAW but not the live recorded mic audio in same live session in DAW. Any ideas? Great video by the way 🤘🏽
How is the Left Right balance while operating Volume knob on Studio M? Heard about being an analog attenuator in long run the left and right differs in volume.
Trick question. Is it Windoze compatible? The blurb mentions AU plugins for the gizmo insertion gubbins, which fills me with Macdread. The spec blurb isn't immediately visible, but I may be temporarily pasta-blind. In which case "doh!"
GroundControl Room looks like it has a ton of potential for arseing around with audio going into Teams/Zoom/etc. In the run up to annual appraisal time, I can’t see any reason not to immediately install it and start buggering about in work calls. I’m actually looking forward to Monday morning now. Ta!
Would I be right in suggesting the ID/Scroll Control wheel function of the Audient ID14 (and others in that range) could be used to control the main volume?
Since I use an UAD Twin and the lousy 4 outputs are not expandable,, a software solution wouldn't help much. You can't aggregate multiple interfaces on Windows by default, so a 2 in, 4 out is far easier to setup. Then again, for a single monitor setup, the Twin comes with everything you need. Isn't that Behringer thing merely a copy of the Big Knob? Thanks for showing!
I'm guessing the Ginger Audio can load SoundID (Sonarworks) presets on each monitor output feeding the respective speakers? Like a software version of what the Merging Anubis does?
The Mackie Big Knob Passive is a good alternative to the Behringer, having all the same features, being at pretty much the same price, and having the advantage of NOT being a Behringer...
Just to note: It's essentially impossible to have polarity-flip on a passive device, since all the usual inputs/outputs share a common ground. Except, of course, if outputs don't actually share a common ground. ;-) But that's risky, so I'm not surprised that Berhinger didn't add such switches.
It's completely possible idk where you're getting this information. Balanced audio consists of 3 total conductors not two. One is for ground, which yes can be common, but the other two are for signal. If you flip the polarity of the two signal wires you absolutely will have a polarity flip in the audio. Electrically this works because the two signal conductors are differential, and use the ground as reference.
Soo essentially they made a cheap crappy Clone of Mackie Big knob.. Monitor controllers aren't anything new or special but dang they could've tried to make it look less similar to a Mackie Bigknob
Sweet! Something in my budget that I’ll definitely need soon. Thanks for this.
Well there goes my Monday morning plans to clean the studio, thanks :-) Ginger Audio fiddling commences.

Great video and tips chaps, that Ground Control Room sounds like just the ticket!

Great value guys, might want to point out in description above, Ground Control Room Mac ONLY!.
Thanks Tony, we forgot to mention that!

I do like me a monitor controller. Got the Mackie Big Knob last year and love it. Wouldn’t mind getting my hands on the Heritage Audio Baby Ram 😊

That software controller paired with a midi controller featuring all the necessary buttons would be golden!

Behringer, poooooooooo, Ginger audio, yahoooooooo..AND it works on a Mac…weeeeee…great video as always kids,,,cheers muh day

The only thing desk artists worldwide can agree on is the Herman Miller Aeron .
I think you should make a special about it one day :)
That software looks great. I wish they would make a midi controller that looks exactly the same in order to control it though.

Can I connet this device to my phones output in my mixer? And can I monitor with Independent levels of volume for each instrument on stage?

It isn’t… 🥺
you guys are awesome
It’ll be good for digital setups using sonarworks… different correction for each monitor… something like that… the use for streaming interests myself

Mixing Cat Meme, put that on a t-shirt and I will buy it. ;) Now I’m of to download 7 day trial, fingers crossed it’s workable for me.

If it’s an AU plugin, you’re most likely in luck! Feel free to download the trial and give it a go - worth a try!
Can i run second monitor (single avantone mixcube) to headphones output in my interface?
RME ARC USB, cheap piece of kit but it's an expensive entry into the ecosystem in order to use it. Vastly more than a hardware knob too.
This software looks great, but I would love to see a Linux Version or a Windows one, since I'll probably never buy a Mac.
Fair comment I think, and I was about to try it on my main studio PC. Guess it's going on the Jamulus/Drum Macbook Pro :).

the BKP also has an extra mono jack output as I recall

basically the same a Mackie big knob right
