This is my reaction to British Guys Try Canadian Snacks
In this video I react to British guys Jolly trying snack from Canada including Ruffles All Dressed, Hostess Hickory Sticks, maple candy and more.
Original Video - • British Guys Try CANAD...
You're supposed to pour hickory sticks into your mouth. Nothing like the fear of getting one stuck sideways in your throat!
What a beautiful way to go
Nom nom nom. Those sticks always get stuck going down but we never ever blame them and never stop eating them no matter how many wounds they cause.
Now you're living!
You can add to salads, sandwiches , hamburgers. Soooo good
I put them in my homemade hamburgers. So good lol
Hickory sticks, hawkin’s cheezies, Vickie’s chips are great, ruffles all dress are the best all dress chips. Also coffee crisp chocolate bars.
Too bad they missed Hawkins Cheezies.
Hickory stick are my favourite and the Salt & vinegar.
Hawkin's Cheezies.
Sadly, Coffee Crisp isn't on there...that will always be my favourite. I live in Scotland now and get disappointed by many of the snacky/treat options. I was even born here, but my tastes for snacks got refined in Canada. Another great one is Old Dutch Nacho chips.
We call them chips 😊
Hickory Sticks are awesome.
Definitely agree😊
Yup! Hickory sticks are one of my favourites.
As long as they are the original not the salt and vinegar ones. Bought those by mistake was not impressed 😊
Hawkins Cheezies.
Love Hawkins cheesies!
Hickory sticks are a mandatory food group when you’re in High School in Canada.
second ... gum was first while waiting for the hostess guy to refill the rack with them and the lays guy to reload the regular fritos
I read that as "when you're high in school"... Tells you something about my high school days 😂
@@kaboom-zf2bl a real Canadian would be chewing on tic tacs. Our Italian friends imported them into Canada and we immediately became addicted.
@@Somethingaboutthat tbh cant stand tic tacs ... and Im just dwn the street from JT
I don’t know why this one ends up on everyone’s hit list.
They didn't get any Coffee Crisp? Le gasp! Hawkin's Cheezies are delicious. Those Maple Sugar candies are supposed to be nibbled on, or you put them in your mouth like a hard candy.
Coffee Crisp = the best candy bar ever made IMO.
They were in the video. It looked like a bag of the tiny ones but I don’t think they ate them.
My brother loves Hawkins cheezies. They're good to dip in soft serve ice cream lol.
@@michaelmarkowski204 Can confirm.
Hawkin’s cheezies are a must
All Dressed chips are a combination of the 4 most popular flavours in Canada: Sour Cream & Onion + Salt & Vinegar + Barbecue + Ketchup
It's also got a heavy dose of paprika in there.
@@Ottawajames thats the ketchup colouring
Definitely try Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle if you can find them :)
Or almost any flavour by Miss Vickie's, they're a top class kettle chip.
Miss Vickies is goated
True, I can’t say I have ever had a bad Miss Vickie’s chip, they are all top shelf.
Metro supermarkets (Food Basics) have their own house brand of kettle cooked chips at a cheap price with some pretty unique flavours, none of which I can recall at the moment other than sea salt and sea salt & black pepper.....One is called "Devil's (something)", apparently an extremely hot and spicy flavour.
I miss those chips now that I've moved across the pond. Like it's almost painful.
Yes! The crunch on Miss Vickie’s is superior and their flavours are fabulous - I adore the spicy dill pickle!
Hickory Sticks are the best and Maple cookies are good from both companies, but I usually eat Dare. We say chips for crisps and fries for french fries, but we still say Fish and Chips. lol
Thats so true i never thought about the fish and chips thing. Fish and fries sounds ridiculous anyway
Dare is better.
I think for Maple cookies you have a lot of people in Canada who don't care about the brand. Unless you are a real die-hard cookie connoisseur who likes to compare sandwich-style cookies, it just comes down to whether people like this type of cookie or not. Pretty much every large grocery store in Canada has their own store brands and would make these cookies. Christie and Dare are not brands that are exclusive to any particular store.
Salt and vinegar is a common favorite in Canada. My favorite are Miss Vickie’s sea salt and malt vinegar chips.
I drooled reading this
Canadians ( and any Commonwealth country)spell it " favoUrite"!!!
You mean 'favourite'? 😉
Yes,yes,yes👍🏼
We call them Chips, even in French!
yup, well the word croustilles exist but we don't really use it
The Dare company is going strong for many years. Maple cookies are best sellers as well thumbprint cookies too.
Old Dutch Ketchup is the best brand of ketchup chips and Ruffles All Dressed is the best kind of All Dressed chips. Lays can take a hike.
On the west coast is Vancouver Island and the city of Nanaimo. We have a square called Nanaimo Bars. Must try!
Nanaimo bars are across Canada. They're a staple here on the prairies. My Mom made great ones. A fave❤
Chips - and salt & vinegar is the best chip but all dressed is amazing. We call them cookies and yes we do dip in tea. And maple syrup is in everything. BLT sandwich with real Canadian old cheddar cheese, with maple drizzle is so good
Standard 90's Toronto kid lunch would be a Jamaican Beef Patty, Hickory Sticks and a Tahitian Treat soda.
Hawkins Cheezies and any kind of Vachon pastries.
Yes Vachon is expert at their snack cakes!
You SHOULD set up a post office box, and than ask Canadians, from different Provinces to send You the Most popular snacks from that Province. Each Province has it's own unique brand of snacks.
Maple sugar is maple syrup with all the water boiled away. There is also a maple spread which is made by boiling the syrup and whipping air into it as the water evaporates. This makes it into something you can spread on toast rather than sugar crystals.
But the stuff we all know and love under the brand name "map o spread" contains no maple ...
@@robertsmith4681 Yes sadly there's a lot more fake maple than real. :(
They are called chips in Canada, although most people know what crisps are. The maple candies are generally only seen in airports and tourist traps, but they are delicious. ❤
If you've ever chopped down a tree, you'll see why they're called 'chips'.
you dont live in Ottawa do you ... them suckers are in all the farmers markets by the ton ... since lanark County is the maple syrup capital of the world
@@kaboom-zf2bl I thought the Province of Quebec was the maple syrup capital of the world?
@@kathrynturnbull990 go to Lanark county Ontario.... they earned that distinction back when Ottawa became the capital
Speak for yourself. I've lived all over Canada in my 67 years and I've never heard of "crisps".
Butter tarts are really popular in southern Ontario. There is actually a butter tart trail; a mapped out trail of small towns and their bakeries that all claim to have the best butter tarts. Would be fun to explore that! Stretchy pants would be mandatory. 😂
Here on the prairies too. Pecans in them for me, hate raisins!
Ketchup Chips, and Crunchie bars
I live in Toronto and Salt & Vinegar is a popular flavour here. Definitely top 5 with Ketchup, All Dressed, Dill Pickle & Sour Crean & Onion.
Smoky bacon is another good chip flavour.
Coffee Crisp chocolate bar, All Dressed chips
Coffee Crisp . One of my favorites when I could eat them . I'm a diabetic now and I can't really eat that stuff anymore . The Rolling Stones with "What a drag it is , getting old ' too true .
If you see Fish and Chips on a Canadian Menu, you will get French Fries with your fish, otherwise chips refers to what you call crisps.
Ms Vickie's Salt N Vinegar and also Hawkins Cheezies!
Try a "chocolate" bar called Eat More... it's molasses mixed with nuts. It's good!!!
I gave my husband an Eatmore bar once. I ended up finishing it for him. I've loved them since I was a kid.
Other YT creators that have tried potato chips usually prefer Lays Ketchup over Ruffles All Dressed. Coffee Crisp chocolate bars tend to get a double 👍🏻. Dare brand is Canadian, Christie brand is US. The maple flavoured sugar they tried would be like eating a maple flavoured sugar cube. Hickory Sticks taste amazing.
If you let us know your mailing address, I would guess you might get a box or 2 of treats 🙂
I'd definitely send some snacks. Let us know Mert!
Just get a PO Box at your post office. That way you keep your home address anonymous.
Mert - If you get a PO box I'm sure everyone here (including myself) will send you lots of Canadian snacks! It would be fun!
Maple sugar is simply maple syrup that has been boiled down further to remove most of the moisture. When it cools it forms into a lump of almost pure maple flavoured sugar. It’s very sweet and can be eaten like candy but can also be used as a substitute for white or brown sugar. Putting it in coffee or tea is a very good idea.
its the heroin of canada.
In Canada, we say "cookies", not "biscuits".
The only biscuits we have here would be the American bread, kind, like buttermilk biscuits. Most typically eaten at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
@@JesusFriedChrist Yes. They're good and really fill you up. I couldn't eat more than one per meal though. Actually, one biscuit might be all I could eat period for a meal.
As I’m watching this video I’m drinking tea and enjoying some Maple Cream Cookies.
You really got to try those all-dressed chips. It's no joke, they're that good. If you love coffee, try and find a coffee crisp chocolate bar. It's nice and sweet, but with a lovely taste of coffee.
My favorites are Old Dutch Chips (never called them crisps)
In 1954, Old Dutch opened a plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to manufacture chips for the Canadian market. The head office for Canadian operations remains in Winnipeg. *Old Dutch Foods sells their products in the states of Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Old Dutch is my favourite chip brand, too! 😄
Especially Creamy Dill
Yeah. And are orders of magnitude better than anything Hostess puts out.
My favourite brand as well. Especially the cheddar ones. Barrie Walmart used to carry them but they had no flavours of them at all when I went today :(
The BBQ in the box is the best!
There's a berry that specific to a certain region in Canada it's called the Saskatoon Berry. It's a variety of myrtle tree that puts out berries that are very similar to blueberries.
I'm from Saskatchewan, home of the Saskatoon. I say that blue berries and Saskatoons taste quite different. I'd much rather have blueberries! Great show!
IF you like coffee, CoffeeCrisps are amazing. If you kinda like coffee, CoffeeCrisps are very good. If you don't like coffee... well, a CoffeeCrisp is interesting to try.
There are layers and layers of Canadian snacks, I think you’d be surprised at how many flavours/types of jerky are stocked as standard in stores and especially gas stations. In BC, almost every supermarket and some delicatessens will sell Candied Salmon - which still goes by the older name of ‘Indian Candy' in some places - this is something a lot of people who fish make at home, there are lots of recipes on UA-cam, but it’s basically a sweet, heavily marinaded smoked salmon, it is cut into square strips and smoked until it is drier than the smoked salmon you would see in the UK. It isn’t as dry as salmon jerky, but it is still a way of preserving. A normal supermarket here will probably have five or so types of salmon at the fish counter, from fresh to candied, smoked to double smoked, lox and sushi. The Candied, is the one sold as a snack.
Lucky you man , I love smoked salmon , the advantages of the big city . I've been there .
@@sandywilson867 I’m a way away from a big city, But I’m on the island and buy the ocean. A lot of people here fish, and a lot of people smoke and cure their own meat and fish. Some people in the town will row out and drop a few pot off before they go to work, then retrieve them for dinner, it’s not unusual for such food to be traded, or given as presents, or favours. Living in a city, somebody might be given a bottle of wine or a case of beer as a ‘thankyou' or token of appreciation. Here you are more likely to receive some salmon, or venison or crab, or shrimps. One property I used to take care of had owners from Texas. They'd fly up in the summer, spend a day or two and then head up to Haida Gwaii to fish for a week, before coming back and spending a week or two, before heading home.
When they left, I was always instructed to take whatever was in the freezer. Which was usually 30 or more pounds of salmon and halibut. The staff with the fishing charter company would actually fillet, vacuum seal and freeze their customers catches for them, so it was a nice clean gift!
I’m about 15 minutes away from a town with a supermarket, but if I wanted to, I could last a long time without going to town. Lots of people have stands outside their gates. I can (in season) buy most vegetables, pickles, jams, honey, most meats, several types of seafood, several kinds of meat, cheese etc.
Ketchup chips and All Dressed chips. Definitely try them. I mean ketchup and french fries wth it's obvious
Miss Vickie's spicy dill pickle kettle chips. Yes please!
I’m going to betray my culture here: ketchup chips even smell gross. Don’t. Just don’t…
The Passion Flakie is a great Canadian snack.
Miss Vickie's Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar Kettle Cooked Chips 💙
Yes please 👍🏼
Miss Vickie salt and vinegar chips are THE best chips. Must try
Several companies make the maple leaf cookies... the best of the best is Leclerc, then Dare and lastly Christie. Maple sugar is suppose to be eaten just like they did, yes. It's pure maple sap boiled till it's cristalizing... And I agree with them, Mr Big is deceiving and Oh Henry are very good (at least in my opinion of course). As for chips (we don't call them crisps), Hickory sticks are yummy... the All dressed chips to my taste, not so much... not bad but not that good either. My favourite other than plain chips or regular chips would be salt and vinegar or black pepper and lime. Yummm. 🙂
You ever have an unusual craving for a food that's never your main choice?
Ketchup chips
There's also Leclerc that makes maple syrup cookies, they have a plant in my city and everytime I pass by and they made a batch I want to make complaints because it smells so good!
My fave chocolate bar since childhood is Oh Henry, I grew up on a farm and if my Mom went into Winnipeg without us she would bring us each an Oh Henry. Lol, was one of her faves too. Hickory sticks and All Dressed chips family faves. I am addicted to Maple Cookies but always buy the Dare brand, my parents always had these in the house so a bit of nostalgia in those cookies as well. Funny video, thanks Mert!
You can get maple candies at many grocery stores, almost all chip brands in Canada have an all dressed version. The best chips in the entire country is a brand called Covered Bridge. You should get yourself a PO Box cause you’d for sure get stuff in the mail. If you like chocolate you should look for Coffee Crisp or Wunderbar. I know I’m forgetting some good ones…
The Covered Bridge plant in NB burnt down back in Mar of this year. The owner said after the fire that he is planning to rebuild.
@@edwardlongshanks827 yeah Covered Bridge chips will be at a premium for the next year or so...or however long the rebuild takes. It's a huge loss for the community and for Canadian chip enthusiasts.
I call them chips and my husband likes the All Dressed.
These snacks we call chips in both languages, french fries we usually just call "fries" or "frites" in French. Maple cookies have a neo-religious symbology here in Canada, each province has it's preferred brand and sort of unique flavor.
Ganongs Chicken Bones (cinnamon candy) from St. Stephen NB where the Ganong Chocolate/Candy Factory is. We have Salt & Vinegar, Malt Salt & Vinegar, Ketchup, BBQ, Sour cream & onion, all dressed, rotisserie chicken, dill pickle, and many many other flavors of chips (not crisps) in my area of Canada. There are Lays, Ruffles, "store" brands, no name brands, Miss Vickie's, Old Dutch, Cap Cod, Kettle brand, and my favorite chip brand is Covered Bridge out of Waterville NB.
In chips or crisps SEA SALT AND PEPPER or👍 FRIES AND GRAVY or DILL PICKLE or SMOKEY BACON or ALL DRESSED and HICKORY STICKS also ZESTY CHEESE DORITOS , candy bars COFFEE CRISP or MR BIG , and MAPLE LEAF COOKIES of any brand , and BUTTER TARTS of any brand 👍
Lays/Ruffles period are Canadian! Kraft Dinner is also Canadian. I personally love Ms. Vickies Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar chips
Salt and Vin (S & V) are tops everywhere.. I imagine.. All Dressed might be better!! Oh Henry as well, excellent bar but best is "coffee crisp"... All cookies/biscuits are dipped in tea!!..
They guys showed Christie's Pirate Cookies in one of the boxes but didn't show a tasting. Those are the best! The Pirate Cookies are oatmeal peanut butter sandwich cookies (biscuits) and my favourite cookies. Hickory sticks are good, all-dressed chips are good. Miss Vickie's has the BEST salt and vinegar chips. They take a layer off your tongue if you eat too many. Awesome. All the Miss Vickie's chips are great.
We call them chips because unfortunately we are heavily influenced by America however, unlike Americans we are not clueless and you can easily say crisps and we will understand :) If you like Salt & Vinegar (yes, it's popular here) and if you like 'kettle' chips, you should try Miss Vickie's Salt & Malt Vinegar (Miss Vickie's was a strictly Canadian brand until it was purchased by another company. )
We call them chips just like in the US. All dressed are my favorite since it's a mix of flavors, and ketchup has grown on me. I don't eat junk like chips anymore, but this made me hungry 😂
Whippet cookies are another Canadian invention and there are maple flavor whippets too
Atlantic Canada has Ganong Chicken Bones - excellent if you like cinnamon. But it has to be Ganongs, any other brand are not as good.
Canadians call them chips.Christies are an off shoot of Nabisco in the US while Dare is a straight Canadian brand.
Chip flavours you can find in Canada: Plain, BBQ, Salt & Vinegar, Ketchup, All Dressed, Dill Pickle. Sour Cream & Onion, Sour Cream & Bacon, Roasted Chicken. I'm probably missing some. Supermarkets like Loblaw, Metro, and Sobey's, along with Wal-Mart, will also offer unique international flavours under their own exclusive house brands, mainly inspired by Indian or Asian cultures.
My favourite chips are Roast Chicken
My Favourite chip is the Salt and Vinegar
Oh Henry peanut butter is good but the regular one is good as well
Chips, covered bridge chips are made in mew brunswick, they have "storm chips" all flavors in one bag
Dang I have never heard of those. Gotta order me some to BC.
Are they even available right now? The plant in NB burnt down to the ground in Mar of this year. I know the owner said he was going rebuild after the fire.
I have ordered the covered bridge chips. They are good I love their sour cream and onion. I get them from spud in bc
There are things that are specific to certain cities, Forinstance the Persian Pastry is only regularly found in Winnepeg or Thunder bay.
Yes there are treats only available in certain places
Love all dressed chips and ketchup
Maple bacon and eggs delicious
Hickory sticks my all time fav
Dare maple cookies are the best
I love all dressed and hickory sticks. You need to check out the try channel tasting Joe Louis snack. It’s a Canadian pastry sweet that has been around for years. They were very impressed
Joe? It’s Jos! And you have to say it in a thick French accent every time you grab one.
@@Somethingaboutthat lolol darn auto. Correct or many be because I grew up in southern Ontario lolol🇨🇦
There's lots of different chips and drinks that you can only get in specific cities and provinces especially when you get down to the east coast of Canada.
In all dressed chips is just a combination of the four top chips in Canada.. so it's a mixture of ketchup barbecue sour cream and onion and salt and vinegar
A pretty good representation of Canadian snacks in this video. The Coffee Crisp bar is a recommended try, along with the Cadbury Caramilk bar and Hawkins Cheezies.😋 It's definitely chips, not crisps here. If a big snowstorm is predicted, Canadians will flock to the grocery stores to get their storm chips.
Sour cream and jalapeño ruffles chips? You're holding out on us Mert!
(seriously, I'd be willing to consider a snack exchange with you, I may be moving to that area of the world in a few years and would love to reconnoiter the snacking situation lol)
also, Salt & Vinegar is very popular here. Probably 4th/5th in popularity behind All Dressed, Ketchup and BBQ or plain)
Dill pickle is the best 🇨🇦
Hickory Sticks are So addictive!😋
My father was a district sales manager for Hostess Patatoe Chips now back in the sixties,we kids had alot of friends growing up.
Always first with new flavors, remember hotdog, pizza, ketchup, bacon, some didn't make it...Guess what was handed out from our house on Halloween?
Don`t forget Hostess chip flops, chocolate chips, orange chips or lime chips. No one wanted these chips even for 5 cents a bag!
@donaldnicol8415 yep, 5 cents a bag,or three empty pop bottles..
Crisps... are known as Chips... in Canada. If you don't like All Dressed chips... in Ontario... you can be finned up to $100... for lying.
Hawkins Cheezies and Old Dutch salt and vinegar chips. Two of my favorites.
My favourite flavours of Chips is - Dill Pickle, Spicy Dill Pickle, Ketchup, Spicy Ketchup, All Dressed, Lay’s Cheddar Jalapeño chips , Hickory Sticks, Doritos Sweet Chili Heat,
My favourite chips are Old Dutch Baked Ketchup chips. I also love Salt & Vinegar chips
Don’t like ketchup chips but All Dressed chips are my favourite!🇨🇦
My favourite chips are Onion and Garlic flavour. They’re delicious!! ❤❤
Nah. we don't dip. Maybe Oreos in ilk. Or Choloclate ship cookies.
All Dressed, then Hickory Sticks, then Salt & Vinegar.
All dressed and Hickory sticks are my two favorite chips. Luv maple cookies too
A specifically Canadian chocolate I love is Caramilk. It’s just chocolate & caramel but it’s delicious
Pringles now makes Maple Sugar Chips for the Canadian market
Cuban Sandwich. I wonder if they are still available? Fabulous.
Barbecue Ketchep Sea Salt, sour cream and cheddar cheese
Love hickory sticks and original Lays potato chips. Don’t care for ketchup or all dressed. 🇨🇦🖖🏻
