Hope this video makes Fortify a bit more clear, this series is a bit experimental and I am trying a bunch of new stuff so let me know what you think!
Yes very clear now :) thanks a lot.
New to Diablo…. All I can say is thank you and keep ‘em coming.
love these hope you do more over other stuff like lucky hit chance and how that works.
Thank you as a
Solo necromancer
This class was optional for me, but stayed for the edit and cool themed idea. Great work , can't wait for next class!
optional? youre our druid!
@@DonTheCrown oh shit, I got caught *tramples away*
Haven't played Diablo since the first one and am jumping back in now. Absolutely love the format of this series (chalk on the chalkboard and projector slides...YES!!!). I have been finding these mechanic explanations extremely helpful, so subscribed and thank you!
I'm an old boy here trying to make the most of my post campaign game play.
Thank you so much for making these and your format. No awful music or weird plugs for mobile games or junk like that.
Keep up the great work 👍
Thank you! I checked what people on reddit had to say about it and they all were under the impression that fortify only does something when you get the ring around the health ball.
I wasn't so sure if they were right because with around 70% of fortify i always felt very tanky in my own game sessions.
And now you confirmed that suspicion of mine.
Phew.
👍
First time on the channel and love it! Will post in my discord so my mates can get this information. Thank you 🙏
Yet another great video, looking forward to the full breakdown
thanks!
This format is amazing earned a sub
This video is fantastic, thanks for the effort! ♥
Amazing work, Don
Great vids! Very informative !!!
Thanks was having trouble figuring this mechanic out
i really liked how you did this and it helped a lot. thank you
Love the final exam date/time, lol.
Thank you for this. I like your style and animations of explanations. Semi pro gamer here (no ego). Props.
Hah dude! I'm glad you did video for Asmon about world tiers trap, it's how I got here xD
Love your university content and just subscribed for more :D
Great video! Hoping you get more visibility once the game launches.
hopefully they pop off before then since supposed to help new to the genre players get ready to play with their friends but overall just want to help explain the systems
I really appreciate this channel, iv just started playing Diablo when the first beta launched for IV and played server slam and had no idea about any of this stuff lol. Subbd
Thanks great video
My feedback :
Thanks Sir
In the first beta phase on my Barb I was able to get my health bar to full fortify within 1 or 2 skills often keeping fortify up at all times. Another interesting thing I noticed was when my fortify was above my HP, I seemed to heal faster. I don't know if there's a hidden mechanic here or not.
Minor nitpick: base life refers to the life you would have without bonuses from gear. Your health tooltip in the stats screen can give you this value for reference. Without much gear increasing your max life, they're basically the same, but you don't get a free lunch out of abilities that scale on base life when you increase your health pool through gear (sadly!).
Nice thank you brov🙏💞🔥
very good video thank you
Tha k you so much you have my sub for life
a class i would take note... :D gj
Thank you for giving it to me as it is and straight! I hope you have same one for Barrier :)
Thank you for this video. I assume that this can now be relevant to sorc due to sanguine brace?
bit late watching but thanks for this :)
This breakdown was SO good! It's sad to see how people are still using fortify even though brutal hearts render it irrelevant. So few people understand what fortify is... It's basically pointless now, which makes room for so many more builds. I wish more people took the time to understand that the seasonal changes were truly game breaking and made it so fun to experience a whole different game
does anything that adds to my percent damage affect my minions as a nerco, or only the bonuses to their damage
My issue with this is that your fortify drains so it won’t be active unless hit. Then within 1 second it goes away. This is an issue on my necro with 100% damage increase while fortified, so I can never take advantage of it.
Let's go
Short and sweet. Not the biggest fan of plate spinning mechanics that will likely end up being mandatory , though the various ways to tweak the ways of getting fortified and to benefit from it means its certainly a lot more interesting than x% more armor, for example. I just really dislike the rapid decay of resources out of combat as a concept.
yeah Im betting that for the most part it won't be too much of a hassle except for the very start of a dungeon and on the way to the boss, 5 seconds to start decay is really fast though
Fortify decay timer needs to be doubled. Basically worthless in open world.
Fastest fortify gain in my experience is blood howl and the legendary that heals you or adds to fortify if at max health.
If going for defense, to sapphires in armor. If going for overpower damage, go rubies in armor.
To be clear the stats that say DR whilst fortified rolled on gear, do they apply to large hits that lead you to being fortified, or only IF you are fortified when you are originally hit?
only when you start as fortified
I was the 420 like much love
Great video but how do you tell difference from barrier and fortify on the health bar? They both look the Same to me and I have a barbarian that has both? Gave the video a like
barrier is blue
Tbe real question is, stack armour or health in endgame
Not sure if Fortify will be much use with the Harlequin Crest being shown off in the latest stream. Plus 1000 life is going to make it hard to actually make DR kick in.
% sources of fortify wont care if you have 2000 life or 2 million
also think Harlequin crest has already been nerfed cause the original datamine version had DR instead of life >.>
@@DonTheCrown Barbarian nodes add a percentage of 'base' life. Is that without additives from armor etc, or including that? I had assumed if+10% base life adds 100 fortify, but you had 2000 health with the Crest, it would take an awful long time to get to that 2000.
Lol I’ve just started my Druid and I thought when have full health fortified I have 2x hp plus 10DR and I didn’t feel like that way then I end up here :)
Fortify is such a strange attribute, it fights for attention with other things you're already trying to optimize for, another overly complex thing weighing D4 down instead of adding to gameplay
- fortify grants you extra damage and damage reduction, that's not gameplay changing, simply another unnecessary layer to add complexity to gear/paragon board when the result is nothing new
I noticed that using a health potion rapidly decreased my fortify.
I need that overpowered class
Does fortify count as barrier?
How do I get that blue shield around my fortify?
that's barrier, several ways to get that depending on your class
@@DonTheCrown Thank you.
Did I technically learn anything if I smoke bombed out? :P
but maybe he came back with snacks?
I appreciate your series very much, however, this video has caused me more confusion. Your examples are throwing me off. At 2:04, you give an example which states that at 1000 Life (500 Fortify), you take a hit for 600 damage. But, the first 500 damage comes off your unmitigated life...and then only 100 damage is subjected to the 10% dmg mitigation. So, you're left with 410 Life and 0 Fortify. Or is it 410 Fortify??? I would have thought that the first 500 would have been mitigated (10% of 500 = 50) leaving you with only 50 dmg being taken to your unmitigated life. Or something like that. 450 Life and 0 Fortify.
However, you give another example at 4:26 that states if you have 1000 Fortify and Life (confused...so are you saying you have a TOTAL of 2000 Life of which 1000 is Fortified, or are you saying that you're 100% Fortified w/ max 1000 Life?) and then you get hit by 600 Damage. You say that you end up with both 460 Life and Fortify. Isn't the total damage you took 540; i.e. 10% dmg mitigation = 60 dmg redux? So, 1000 - 540 = 460. Wouldn't that be split between Fortify and Life? So, you have 460 Life remaining of which 230 is Fortified.
I think the clearer way to state this would be that you have 460 Health of which 230 is still Fortified.
Sorry if I'm being daft here, but I'm still somewhat confused about Fortify at this point.
Fortify is not extra life, it's extra Effective Hp through Damage Reduction. At the base mechanic level, Fortify only works in reducing damage if it is equal to or higher than your Current Hp. If it is lower, it does nothing at all (aside from adding Overpower Damage). Fortify Value also does not decrease from hits unless it you are Fortified and it loses the same amount as the Post Mitigated Damage taken when Fortified activates. So essentially, if you are Fortified, your remaining Fortify Value after a Hit will always be equal to your Hp Value unless you heal between hits
E.g in his first example with 1k life, 500 Fortify and 600 damage, he first takes 500 damage which made him have 500 life and 500 fortify. This causes Fortify to activate, which reduces the remaining 100 damage by 10%, making him take a total of 590 Damage (500 + 100 * 0.9). His Life now drops to 410 (1k - 590 Total Damage) while his fortify also drops to 410 (500 - 90 Damage from the 100 damage Fortify applied to). If he took 700 instead, then he would take 680 damage (500 + 200 * 0.9) so his Life and Fortify both drops to 320 (1k - 680 Total Damage = 320 Life, 500 - 180 Post Mitigated Damage when Fortify was active = 320 Fortify)
In his 2nd example, he's illustrating the case where you were Fortified from the start. You still have 1k Life, but now that 1k Life is already Fortified. With the same 600 damage, you now take 600 * 0.9 = 540 Total Damage and because you were Fortified, your Fortify ALSO loses the same amount. So both Life and Fortify drops to 460. You are very much still Fortified in this case and the only way you won't be fortified anymore is if you heal and don't generate Fortify to make up the lost amount.
This is why I said Fortify isn't exactly Extra Life like Barriers. 1k Fortify is not 1k extra Hp as in this case, Fortify only mitigated 60 damage, while consuming 540 Fortify Value. Think of Fortify Value as a Threshold where it only works if your Hp Value is equal to or below the Threshold. When it activates, it Discounts the damage that went past the Threshold and drops by the same amount as the damage taken when it started discounting. This also means Fortify DR or generally reducing the damage you take can reduce the Fortify Value you lose when you take a Fortified hit, making it easier to top up missing Fortify.
Blizzard wtf this is the most confusing stat. I guess it's kind of like Ignore Pain from WoW??
I think Base life isn't what you think it is. If you have 1000 life that equals to max life. Not base
why is fortify so confusing
This sounds kind of unnecessarily complicated
If your example is correct and you get hit for 600 and you have 500 fortify so you lose 590; you’d literally be better off with one fortify because you’d only take 540.
With one fortify you'd not receive any DR in that example.
I'm sure he's not but this guy sounds a lot like Eric Weinstein.
You are #fakenews! According to experts, D4 is a casual game & no way such complex system like fortify is in the game. /s
I thought FORTIFIED came from eating my Frosted Flakes...
Well based on the example you gave with the 500 health above fortitude and taking 600 damage u wouldve taken 500 flat the 10% reduction would only be applied to the 100 that went over making u take 590 damage instead of 600 which is so close to useless its insane
