So update on the Venetian Plaster i saw at the hardware store ... i think it can only be tinted a few colors (none of which i like) so that option is out lol! I hope you guys enjoy todays vlog!
Why couldn’t you find a paint you like, then mix up a batch of your plaster using the thinned paint as your liquid?
Personally I don't think that or a lime wash is the right look for you farmhouse. With all the bead board and unique features you already have it just seems too much. Just my opinion.
Girl go get some cabinet glazing it’s like a gel glaze and you can wipe it on and do as much or little coloring as you like but it will sink into all the knooks and crannies of the plaster.
I was going to say! The tints are very limited. I used that venetian plaster on my fire place and love it. It's very shiny :D

@@amara560 I'm 1000% sure she was completely fine or McKenna would never have left her! Plus for all we know Romeo could of been on his way home so she wasn't going to be alone long. I went through the same dilemma when I was looking for pine shelf material in 12" wide...I'm not sure what lengths you need, but I ended up buying pine stair treads. They go up to 48" wide (I believe) and it was WAY cheaper and worked out great for me! Sometimes you have to think outside the box! Good luck!

I'd try a much lighter grey for the mantle and then antique it to make that beautiful detail stand out. You could use a dark wax. By using a lighter grey on fireplace it will really become the focal point. If you paint same dark grey as bookcases it will blend in and be too much of the same.
If you want to go bold, paint the mantle in pashmina and antique it with dark wax. You could dilute pashmina and use it as a wash on plaster, then highlight (dry brush) the plaster with wall color paint. I'd do the same to the plaster above oven vent. It will balance the two rooms since you can clearly see each room end to end. 😊👍
Also, you don't need to paint mantle exterior with high heat paint. Those sealed fireplaces will not catch your mantle on fire.😊
I too was going to suggest pashmina and antique-ing it with wax. Great minds think alike.

10/10 recommend a biscuit jointer. Makita has a great one that I wanted for years and finally got this year. It will allow you to join narrower boards together and line it up for a smoother look and adds extra strength. Would also help with other woodworking projects for kind of a hidden joinery. Plus, it’s easier to use then a doweling jig in my personal experience.

We use to enjoy going thrifting, shopping, crafting, cooking, and just spending time together. She past away 10 yrs ago, but watching you two together makes me remember all the fun and special times we spent together. It makes my heart happy.

I tip for getting your corners out of a pillow case is to use a chop stick 😊
Yeah, easier to push from inside.
25:10 your corners will also be sharper if you clip the seam allowance on the diagonal so it doesn't bunch up against itself when you flip it right side out.

I love a Christmas tin. I think some items just need a plinth to shine amongst the rest and a decorative box is perfect. Plus when storing glass ornaments they are the best. Always thrift the boxes ❤️
FYI Dog Food Recall! I am not sure what dog food you and your mom feed your fur babies but Fresh Pet has a RECALL of their food. Any time your dog becomes ill without an explanation always check to see if their food has been recalled.
So thankful Kinsley and your mom's dogs are okay. This past Tuesday I lost my beloved Yorkie Dolly of 15 years. We only feed her chicken, brown rice, Peas and apples. I am so thankful for the 15 years that she was in our lives. So so missed !
A DIY cat house should be on the content agenda for the outdoor neighborhood cats. I would melt. Love getting a new MaCenna video!
There are loads of sheds in MaCennas garden so plenty of places for stray cats to shelter.
@@jmk1962 I’m talking about for aesthetic purposes where she can chill and watch the sweet kitties from her house somewhere. I’m a cat lover…I love seeing the occasional kitty in the vlogs. Little pieces of gold. 😉 But I love dogs too. So Kinsley is a wonderful side-kick / main character too!

I believe high heat paint has to get very hot in order to cure properly. So if your surround doesn't get to the correct temperature maybe don't paint it with high heat. Learned that when I was painting my fireplace insert!

The corners in the cushions can be made quite easily. Simply "dent" the corners from the inside with a wooden stick or a brush handle. This is very quick and effective.

My Mum was a dressmaker n she would push her closed scissors up into the inside corners of a cushion to push out the corners to a point. Try it!
I don’t know how wide your shelves are, but would pre-made stair treads work. They’re generally beveled on the front.
Love the idea of using the old bricks for the new fireplace. Personally I would have painted the beedboard and cabinets (the sides) of the fireplace the colour Deep river from Benjamin moore or a even darker green. The livingroom gets much more light and can handle a dark colour with depth. And the colour is just amazing!
The channel Woodbrew recently built a floating built in tv stand/bookcase and he used some incredible looking wood, forgot what type but I do remember it being expensive! However, he shows how he built it but also the plans he created. I know in your case it’s not for the tv but floating if that’s the direction you go with

Water down a paint color you like and brush or sponge it on to your liking...you get the color you want and its cheaper. You and your mom are so cute together 💞
You could always use a sealer on the knots so they don't show through the paint! They work really well.

Velvet ribbon is most usually found in the best selection in a Fabric store.
I am so,surprised to see the bead boards painted! All this time I couldn't wait for that to happen and I had no idea I would miss that random patterning there. It makes me want to suggest a muted patchwork pattern of some sort there but I need to wait for the shelves first. They're gonna change everything again. It's coming along Girly!

If you still can't find the wood you need for the shelves, you can always just use the same cabinet grade (or a nicer grade) of 3/4" plywood and use that iron-on edging. And I also like that idea of the rich wood color for the cabinets and Shelves, though it definitely could give a busy look with the gray beadboard AND the plaster wall AND the decorative mantel AND the brick hearth.
Kingsley is very involved with what you purchase for the house, it's so cute. I'm normally not a fan of faux flowers but with the beige vase it looks really prettyl Thank you for sharing all your talent and wisdome.

I use my swing tweezers or string Turner to poke the corner of the sewing project and push it out from the inside . It always makes the pillow look more finished if you turn it right side out and sew around the edge again about 1/8 in from the edge.

My weekend is complete now that I’ve seen the new paint on the on the walls in the living room. Love to watch you and your mom go thrift in together. U2 are so stinking cute.❤
Use a dowel or knitting needle from the inside to push out the corners. Digging at the fabric with a pin of any kind could result in snags.
Try getting some 100% pumpkin puree and giving Kinsley a spoon full mixed in with her food. I learned that trick from a lady that works in animal rescue & have used it on my dogs anytime they're having tummy issues. Pumpkin has probiotics and fiber so it's great for them anyway. Make sure it's 100% pumpkin 🎃 and not pumpkin pie filling though, very important! I just put the extra in a Tupperware in the fridge and mix it into their food until it's all gone. This time of year is great to stock up on it too, I literally have like 10 huge cans in my pantry at all times bc it's a life saver! You can also mix it with plain Greek yogurt and freeze in ice cube trays for a frozen treat if she likes that better. I hope this helps either now or in the future!

Helpful tip to find the velvet ribbon... because it's very trendy right now.... Hobby Lobby carries it both in the holiday section -- bigger rolls obviously-- and the fabric section (which is more "everyday craft" colors) but a bit smaller roll size. Can still save some change either way, 50% off Christmas or 40% fabrics.
Favorite video of the week ! 😊 As much as I looove the grey in the entrance, I'm not sure about it for the bookshelves. I think the transition from the warm wood tones to the cool grey is a bit weird. The light in the living room give the grey a weird tone. I would have imagined the back of the bookshelves black so it can mirror the kitchen island. It would match the hearth too. And then the shelves and the bottom part of the bookshelves to match the rich wood tones. Just a thought though ! Can't wait to see your next video !

I believe there are hanging brass lamps coming in front of shelves. They will give the grey a warmer feel similar to the entryway.

You make me miss my mom. But now I’m a grown up girl mom and she is like you too, so in a way you remind me of my daughter. Can’t wait to see what you did with the shelves. I think I saw in Lowe’s pre cut shelves that were 12 inches wide and different lengths. I thought of them as an option if I needed to and couldn’t find what I wanted.
That little floral tin at the store could have been such a cute tissue holder!!

I have a floral tin similar to that that I was gifted. It was my husband's grandpa's great aubts. I use it for tea bags and it adds the most beautiful touch to my counter top

Love the color of those pillows and the flowers in the bathroom. Everything is coming together so beautifully!! You’re doing such an amazing job! My mom taught me to use a small dowel or backside of a pencil and gently push the corners out from the inside when making pillows (or anything with corners).
I love the grey green around the chimney breast - it shows off the texture of the beadboard so nicely.

I always used the rubber tip side of a pencil into the unclosed side of the pillowcase to get the 4 points to stick out. It’s so much easier to do.
I might be the only one but I’m not the biggest fan of the dark color on the bead boards. I can’t pin-point it but for some reason the contrast doesn’t seem like it suits the area. Still can’t wait for the finished product though! I’m trusting the process!
