Thank you for this video. I wanted to ask which edge is best for making satin frill shorts/underwear with a rolled edge finish?. I want to make a few for myself
Dear Baybee Tacoo. Thanks for asking! If I were to sew satin frill shorts/dessous, I would probably cut them in the bias grain. Which means most of my seams and hems will be in the bias grain. Therefore I would use a 3-thread narrow seam (stitch 7 on the BERNINA L 850/890 or L450/460) to assemble the pieces and then use a 3-thread rolled hem (stitch 8) for hemming. You could try a wooly nylon in the loopers for a softer feeling on your skin.
Adding the elastic or lace elastic to the waist can be done either with a narrow coverstitch, a narrow 3-thread overlock or a narrow 2-thread flatlock... but these are just suggestions. Have fun trying the different stitches and effects to find the best solution for your project and have fun sewing!

Dear Lizzy, thanks for asking.
For details for the lettuce edge finish, please refer to the information given as at 01:58 of the video: Set the machine for a 3-thread rolled hem. Use stretchy material only. Stretch fabric slightly while sewing. If available (dependig on the machine you are using), use differential feed 0.7 to support the stretching. Use wooly nylon in the upper looper, for a more pronounced decorative effect. A similar effect can be achieved using a woven fabric cut in bias grain.

Hi Ruth, thanks for your kind feedback and for your inquiry. For a lettuce edge, any fabric that has stretch is fine, the more stretch, the nicer the lettuce. For my example I used a soft bi-directional stretchy fabric, which I ordered from a German online shop (www.spitzen-paradies.de; article L715 bi-elastischer Desoussstof cassis, matt) but that was a while ago and it is not on their website any longer. But I am sure you will find an alternative, either there or from another source. Happy sewing!

@@theanswersisinsideu Dear Ruth, it is the fabric mentioned above (bi-directional stretchy fabric, fine quality as I would use for bodywear, approx 80% Polyamide, 20% Elastan). I am not sure if it will make sense for you to buy from spitzen-paradies.de (depending on where you live) but you should be able to get similar fabric in any good fabric shop. Since we bought our fabric almost two years ago I can't send you a link to the exact fabric used in the video.
