1. Power it on
2. Set the language
3. Once it goes to pair to the phone scroll to the bottom
4. Press the question mark at the bottom
5. Follow the steps that are prompted
6. Now you have a set up watch without a phone

JoesGE.com is a pretty cool place (depending who you talk to it might be more than pretty cool. But hey, I'm just writing this down so that it says something down here, because that's more professional right?) and if you're still reading along at this point you might as well sit down and grab some popcorn because this is about to trail on about how we are this premiere repair service located in Washington State North of Seattle in basically the "Armpit of the US" near Mt baker (Mt Baker has the world record for most snowfall at 1,140 inches in a season). Even though it can smell bad around here we love the fresh air and being near the post office and in a quiet sleepy mountain town certainly gives us much closer access to Team Turtle and Team Beaver (Watch our "Who, what, when and where is JoesGE?" video if you don't get the reference).
All this to basically say that we are all addicted to coffee and stay in the warehouse for ridiculously long hours in order to keep up with the demands of the youth for these two sided head audio devices and speakers that float when you throw them in the ocean or in your bathtub to test if they actually float. On top of that we do like it when less stuff ends up in landfills so we hoard everything on shelves with wheels so that we pollute less, it just sits in our warehouse loosing molecules slowly over time degrading to become smaller and smaller.
If you are still reading at this point you deserve an award, or a high five, or something because you must either be the most patient person on the planet, or you read blogs frequently. And if the latter is the case, then this whole thing must seem pretty short so lets keep going.
We do some really interesting things here at JoesGE which are frequently documented in our sometimes weekly sometimes never vlogs.
Also, if you are wondering how we keep up with the demands of the people so well, its because 90% of the people that work here are all Russian around getting things done most of the time. Yes, that was a pun, you are welcome. We hope you have a pun filled day, because who couldn't use a few laughs?
I don't want a phone anymore just a watch to make calls on is that possible?
I went Verizon and they're telling me they can do it with the samsung active 2, I went online to the Samsung site and the text support and they say it'll work on the galaxy 3 watch too. But I feel uneasy. I'll keep posted.
So I would like to know something, let's say u connected it to a phone but u went out and left your phone at home, would you still be able to use it or u would have to use non phone mode?
If it is connected to cellular you can use it without the phone. But if it is just connected to a phone through Bluetooth, no cellular, then you'll have to be near your phone.
This take a sim right, so I can receive and make calls with no phone?
Depends on if you get the cellular model. The cellular model doesn't take a sim, but does connect to cellular service

1. Yes you can we update the software without a phone.
2. You can connect via WiFi or LTE depending on what model you have and their is the Galaxy Store where you can download apps so I assume you can update them but you will have to test that.
3. Yes, you can connect the watch to your Samsung Account.

Hey Joe. So I've got a really interesting idea that I want to try out.
1) watch only as a phone (lte + number share)
2) no smart phone pair up. Just a basic phone line with ... A flip phone.
Techinally with the lte + numbershare the watch should get all texts and calls (regardless of the phone being nearby or not).
I know you're thinking: but what about UA-cam Twitter, and all the things a phone is useful for? Well I'm trying to move away from that. And really with a pair of Galaxy buds, and s3, and a dummy line for calls/texts there shouldn't be anything else needed right?
That's a fun project. In theory what you are saying should work. Let us know if you do accomplish this.
This is exactly what I've been thinking about the past few weeks. Only issue I have are about three apps that I use very frequently.
1. Spotify
2. Goole maps
3. Gmail
@@thriftylndr5313 I understand completely. As for Spotify, they have it built into the watch. I believe you connect your account via a URL so opening it up on your laptop should be fine.
Google maps: there's other good navigation apps out there. I've used a few for runs.
Gmail: my whole goal is to unplugg some lol. But at work/home I always have my laptop with me. I haven't checked to see if there are any email client apps ... But then again I wouldn't want to reply to emails on that small screen
@@localblackman427 Gmail (or any other email client) would be for work related and urgent mail only. For any other communication I'd use my flip-phone. if you do happen to go with a Samsung watch + flip phone setup, would you please post a video? I'm so sick and tired of wasting time on my smartphone and no matter how many apps I delete, it seem to find something else. UA-cam being one of the biggest time wasters of all.
@@thriftylndr5313 for sure! I'm gonna go talk to a Best buy agent later today and see what they say. I know I won't be able to switch immediately, because I'm still paying off my note 9, but they'd be able to tell me what's possible.
A few years ago I did switch to a flip phone and a Verizon tablet. And it was actually realllllllyyyy niceeeeee. However when I became an Android developer it just made more sense for me to just have an Android phone as a daily driver (that and the Verizon tablet was a trash tablet lol).
Is this possible with the new galaxy watch, mine has a similar menu but no option to skip connecting with a phone
Thanks for the comment. Look for the i icon when setting up the watch. If no i icon is found then you will need a phone for setup.

Can you call text without the phone
Thanks for watching! You can call and text on the watch, however it needs to be within bluetooth range of your phone. MD.
Can you text call with no phone or sim card
No, the watch needs to be connected to a phone that has cell service in order to make calls. So the phone would need to have an active sim card in it and the watch would need to be synced and within bluetooth range of the phone. MD.
