List of the tips 1. 0:25 - Flip your canvas 2. 0:55 - Lower your sketch opacity for smoother lines 3. 1:20 - Customize your brush pressure 4. 1:40 - The transparent color can be used as an eraser (CSP specific) 5. 2:00 - Balance detail 6. 2:19 - Use clipping layers and lock transparent pixels (also known as “alpha lock” or “protect alpha” on some programs) 7. 2:55 - Avoid color picking 8. 3:25 - Use pure white (and pure black) sparingly 9. 4:25 - Never use extreme colors (ex neon green/red/blue) 10. 4:59 - Check your values using a white/block color layer 11. 5:34 - Use overlay and multiply for shading and mood 12. 6:14 - Color your lineart 13. 6:50 - The soft lineart trick 14. 7:17 - Expand your selection to create borders (CSP specific) 15. 7:42 - Use an art program that you enjoy
Tip #16: with a will, there’s a way. Even if whatever drawing program you use doesn’t have certain features there are ways to cheat the system. Exp: Ibis paint doesn’t let you use gradient maps with paying but I’m stingy. Buuuuut Ibis paint DOES allow you to select certain colors in your canvas. Soooo I’ll manually put my artwork in black & white and select and fill to my hearts content. It may not be perfect, but it’s something!
Another good tip is to change the size of your line art, by having all the outside lines thicker and inside lines thinner adds some more flow to the art :3
A small personal add-on to tip 2- try using gaussian blur on your sketch or use an airbrush pen when drawing it. That way the lines are less clear and less intimidating to translate into proper line work since you don't have to commit so strictly to what your sketch is
EEK these are all so good!! I think my favorite tip to give out is to use a vector layer when doing line art as when you resize it it doesn't lose its quality! ^_^
One thing I've discovered when it comes to lineart/colored lines: using a desaturated midtone blue and changing the effect of the linear to Subtract makes the lines have a redish tone over your colors! If you don't use the bucket tool it's really easy to add the effect of colored lines. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it to my advantage while digitally painting but for character drawings and whatnot, it's definitely sped up my coloring process.
Sometimes i forget to flip the canvas until ive already colored it in, and when i do flip it, i just cry a lil on the inside. Thank goodness for the liquid brush 😭😭😭
Zepy, I just wanted to say a few things !! Thank you so much for just creating! I have been watching/subbed to you for around when you had 20k or so subscribers. Your art is so pretty and your tips have helped me so much and I have always loved how you read out your streams when they happen!
personally for borders i like to use layer property > effect > border effect bc its easier to adjust the border thickness & you can even draw on a layer with the effect turned on and the border will surround what you're drawing automatically
i knew everything here but i will NEVER skip out on a zepy upload... wish youd mention some keybinds tho :-) ! the "C" key is your keybind for the transparent brush color Space + Ctrl while dragging to zoom in and out Space + Shift while dragging to rotate the canvas Ctrl + Alt while dragging to change your brush size i use CSP as well so these might not translate to other programs tho ive seen at least the first two work for some like firealpaca if my memory is serving me correctly ok love you byebye :3
This video is amazing, I love how you edited it! I loved the little skit with the pen pressure in particular, pen pressure needs to be talked about more often in general
How to color your lineart quick af: 1: Merge all your coloring layers without the lineart. 2: copy the end result in a layer above the lineart and clip it. 3: Blur it with gaussian blur. 4: click ctrl+u to open the color correction window. 5: increase the value and saturation (just make it darker and more saturated) Done, you have a colored lineart that matches the coloring without having to manually paint it :)
7:30 clip studio also has a built-in border layer effect, which imo usually turns out a lot cleaner than doing it yourself :p i usually put the effect on a flat layer below my colors
@@HeartsNini it's in layer properties! it's above layers in the default layout and the button is a circle if you're on a tablet it's only in studio mode, not simple mode
"Avoid color picking" I did that when I was a child with my first tablet. Turns out aparently the dogs I drew I were green, and that i'm colorblind x) This ended up being a part of my character design, putting wrong colors
I would love to paint with CSP but I draw in Paint Tool Sai bc of the feeling it has when you draw. Its so hard to go from Paint Tool Sai to CSP. CSP has so much cool features but its just how drawing feels: odd and stiff
can you go more in depth on the overlay when using overlay and multiply for shading and mood, for the life of me i can not understand how to use it like i need a whole video on how to use this on CPS

these are such lifesavers :sob:, but does anyone know how to do a line pressure like effect without a stylus? (aka finger only)
In CSP at least (not sure for other programs) you can set brush size/opacity to be affected by pen speed instead! This could be an alternative :)
