They do. With them being suitable for many rural services, they're still quite popular within fleets although in the later years I can see this being more common.
The hybrid E400MMC you saw was Stagecoach London 12372 which hit a tree in Woolwich last year that obviously sustained serious front end damage that took out the whole cab into to pieces and the chassis was damaged in the process so it was deemed as a write off.
That's one of the biggest reasons MMC's ripped off by Woolwich casually thrown down from last year out on a route 122. Although 16 reg softened with low branches on the high road.
My local bus company down here in Kent run plenty of buses of this age, although they are slowly getting newer ones in thier fleet. One of my regular rides is a 05 reg Dennis Dart Plaxton Pointer SLF 8.5m, which unfortunately is currently off the road waiting a repair to the fan i believe.
It is ashamed to see things being abandoned or scrapped but visiting a place like that is just kind of cool and eerie. Whether it be this place, remains of an old castle, or even the burnt down Brighton Pier, its just such a cool feeling, comment below if you know what I mean!
Buses get accident damage or as they get older they become more expensive to run and take more expensive fuel . As expenses rise ticket prices would have to do the same to cover costs . No.passengers would agree to that .
Hello just found your video.Im a ex arriva bus driver. I used to drive darts commander’s and spectra’s in Wakefield. That scrap yard was a playground for us kids back in the 80’s.
Some that haven't already been cannibalised and in good condition overall, possibly. But some of them there would require a full pocket to get them back in good shape.
I'd definitely want to live that Stagecoach ALX400 Trident bus or Arriva East Lancs Lowlander that I've had around in my entire childhood in Yorkshire.
That Dart at 11:10 was 34418, ex-Stagecoach South. I learnt to drive and got my licence in that Dart! 36017 just behind it I also used to drive when it was at Worthing.
The Optare Solo, 47258, I drove it's sisters when they were brand new to the Dunfermline yard of Stagecoach Fife. Lovely driving machines, felt like a big van. Always cooking their coolant though, had to top them up at every visit to the station! 47258 was mostly seen kicking around Perth. No idea what happened to her to end up in a scrapyard so early. Maybe the constant overheating? Gone are the days of buses putting in a 30 year shift before being retired.
@0:39 E300, Originally was in a Grey and Purple Livery in East Scotland, Dunfermline for the route 747 Between Halbeath P&R to Edinburgh Airport Via Inverkeithing, Original Reg Plate was WLT 427 and was changed to SV57 BYX, I remember being on this bus literally a month ago!
If this is the yard in between Wombwell and Low valley/ Darfield, I used to work there when I was 12 yrs old in the summer holidays from school 😄 Loved it
mad thing is i remember most of these been in service on the roads where i live, not that long ago. Go north east had a load of dart buses, and i remember them even having one bendy bus that would do the Metro centre route. stage coach ran the Alexander Dennis buses Be interesting to see what mileage these have before they are scrapped off, id bet they are well into the hundreds easy.
The optare at the start of video was mine EGD reg one of two that went within the last few weeks Replaced with new vehicles one was Mercedes one was MAN engined Nothing really wrong with them just old and then out of test I literally couldn’t give them away so they went for scrap simple as that
@9:09 to 9:48 I used to drive this bus 47586 YK05CAV on the Exeter city services between 2013 and 2015. I can hear that loud indicator 'beep' just by looking at the cabs of these old Optare Solos. So many memories for me. How long has this been off the road now?
The classic indicator beep, oh it does bring back memories. We used to have some 55 plate 6 cylinder cummins engined Solos and they had that classic sound, I'd sleep to that 😂
Great vid a probably built half these vehicles at adl in Falkirk that stagecoach isn't that old the white and purple one such a shame to see them scrapped already cheers👍👍
Everything seen here is absolutely brilliant to the electric crap we have nowadays shame to see all of these once in service ending their lives destroyed. Great Video I recommend doing more talks
Wonder if any of the ones from Stagecoach's Hatston depot in Kirkwall, Orkney, ended up there. They had to replace pretty much their entire fleet there not long ago (pretty much all '72 plates now) after the sheer number of passenger complaints and inspection failures they'd been getting as up to that point most of them were worn out cast-offs from other depots sent up here basically to die.
@@robinsbusvideos My pleasure Robin and keep those vlogs coming 😃 And hope you don't mind all my playlists because they are all about letting off 💨💨💨 Just for a laugh though 😅
8:31 I had a feeling this bus was familiar. 19098 originally belonged to us at Stagecoach South. Also sad to see 36017 there too which I think have seen a few times in service in the Basingstoke area. I also believe the Dart at 11:10 is one of ours too.
Was on 47258 only a couple of months ago, she was such a cracking little solo. Gutted to see she has ended her life like this :( also she was an Ex Perth/Dundee bus new too strathtay :)
that red rear access panel with 114 on it is from BD57 WDT one of my Ex Brighton Route 25 O530Gs (seen earlier on) unsure if WDT is still in existance within that yard or id they dismantled it prior to your visit
At 3:31 It is the same logo as Pilkington Glass. As a bit of speculation it could have been a staff bus run by the company to get to and from their factory but i'm not sure where in the country it would have run or what route it would take
Makes you feel old seeing ADL and Transbus Plaxton Pointer 2 Darts there doesn't it 😂. As I mentioned in the video, particularly the plaxton pointers, it's common for them to rot underneath.
I know which scrapyards this is and where they but won't give the names and location out. I do visit it alot to get spares and they're a great bunch of guys. I remember the ex SEM Darts when new and to get 17 yrs out of them isn't bad. Every Stagecoach MAN E300 will end up in scrapyards as nobody wants them due to being so unreliable.
In my home city one of the bus company has been using double decker electric buses on short routes and I have been on them and they are very very quite. I wonder how they are going to scrap them when the time comes with those batteries ?
Excuse my ignorance but what is the sense in not breaking up the majority of decommissioned buses almost as soon as they arrive at the knackers yard? I can see the value in holding onto more modern vehicles that have had to be scrapped through accident damage or a major mechanical failure but surely the rest could just be stripped of parts likely to be needed for vehicles of the same age to keep them on the road a bit longer. Do the big operators have a replacement policy based on age or mileage or is it more subjective and based on the condition of each vehicle. Do they deliberately take some vehicles of a particular model out of service to cannibalise for spare parts for the rest of the fleet. It seems that London buses and those in large metropolitan areas are replaced sooner than those operating out in the sticks by independent companies. That said most of the Arriva buses running in my neck of the woods appear be 15-20 years old. Besides possibly had replacement engines, gearboxes etc would they have had a full refurbishment and repaint during their lives? Presumably every bus goes through a very exacting MoT so is this the time when the axe falls?
Yeah, someone else mentioned that they've never seen a bus with seatbelts, so I replied that's what it's been used for, usually when schools hire them I believe.
They could of fix stagecoach London enviro 400 hybrid mmc 12372 as they managed to fix stagecoach London enviro 400 10194 after it was set on fire on the 208
WTF? 😲 A few plain Scania's (not sure if they're Omnicitys or Omnilinks?) then lots of Dart Pointers in Beachball MKI, MKII plus one in training livery too. All could have been sold for preservation or to a smaller operator and kept on the road! 😟 A scrapped MANviro! 😭💔
Optare Solo's make great camper conversions.
They do. With them being suitable for many rural services, they're still quite popular within fleets although in the later years I can see this being more common.

That’s why it’s there
Very interesting watch. Hits hard seeing buses you remember riding in service
They certainly think of some good names for the different makes & models of them buses!
My local bus company down here in Kent run plenty of buses of this age, although they are slowly getting newer ones in thier fleet.

these days 15s the minimum now although mainly the case at Stagecoach.

Not everything seen here is absolutely brilliant. The Tempo demonstrator was a bag of shite

18331 used to serve my hometown, so sad to see it in a scrapyard
And not a Gardner engine, in sight. Usually taken out straight away, and shipped abroad.

We had 19098 new at Princess Rd in Manchester....then when PS shut in 2011 it went to the newly built Sharston depot. Before cascaded down Hampshire
@@mikepaolo3169 Yeah, few of our E400's are ex Manchester.

This has to be in Caerphilly for sure because there’s a Harris coaches bus or the red and cream bus could be a Cardiff bus livery
Nope.

@robinsbusvideos indeed especially since they're one of the buses from my childhood. When I went on it there was nothing wrong with it
