- So, as the Caddy is finished I decided I needed another project. This time I have gone for something different and am going to be turning this 1981 Yamaha XV75 Virago into a cafe racer.

Glad I found these videos. Great Job! I have a running '83 XV920. I got in boxes for free back in 1999. It was a pile of parts in boxes and needed a top-end rebuild when I found it. I also picked up an '83 XV920 parts bike for $100. I rode it a lot until about 4 years ago. It has been sitting in my driveway for the past 4 years doing nothing. I've been wanting to transform it into something different and your videos have been a great inspiration.

I love motorcycle content. The minute you pulled the rear seat and Fender it totally changed the look of the bike. I could see all of the potential.

Well the channel is called Dan Chambers, not Caddy buildz, VW mk1 buildz, Spaceship buildz, etc. It literally is you so, whatever you want a go at is what it is. I came to the channel because of the Mk1 but I have enjoyed all of it. Anything you work on has the teaching in it to work on whatever and to not be afraid to do it.

@@DanChambersDAC yes if you give it your full attention and can fab up stuff quickly and do a drawing so you have the plan in front of you. Also I would be tempted to do a single shaft driven arm from a bmw k1300r so you can mess with the rear wheel

Thank you so much mate for doing this bike I’ve bought one a few years back I intended on making it into a cafe racer but was always too intimidated because I had not seen many other people do this same bike as it’s different from the virago. My bikes the same year as yours as well.
The bike project is also very interesting, but I would very much like to see the Golf finished and fully restored. I hope the focus won't be moving away from it too much :) Keep up the good work!
Thank you! The Golf was alway’s going to be the long term project as I want to get it right and I don’t want to rush it. I need variety on the channel to help grow it and hopefully grow the income as this is my fulltime job and I haven’t taken any money out in over a year now. Every penny has been invested back into the channel.

Nice one Dan, I found the channel a couple of weeks ago and have been hooked ever since. I used to be right into the VW scene. Ive had more VW's than I can remember, mostly old mk2 polos with a couple of golfs, a mk2 scirocco and a slammed mk2 Caddy van thrown in. I built a G40 polo from a bare shell with roll cage and then built a 125cc Yamaha XV Virago that started from a tired 90's 250cc rat look virago that had been sitting in a friends garden for years rusting away and ending up being some kind of bobber/cafe racer old school hybrid. Im really looking forward to seeing how this project progresses mate, Its giving me the bug to get back into building stuff.

I think this engine is derived from the nils hedlund motor he made for yamaha. Good old school looks. When you started stripping it it looked a litle like the Vincent speed bikes. That wedge shape and aircooled v twin engine. Looking forward to this build thank you

I prefer automotive channels that have varied content. I love cars (Own a Golf GTI) and the Virago is one of my favourite bikes, I had an XV125 several years ago, always wanted an XV1100

A Virago 535 was my 1st bike. Loved it. Had to add lead additive to the fuel as hadn't been converted.
