Unbelievable driving by Bernd Schneider. How he kept up with those on-rails Toyotas is beyond me. The Mercedes wanted to leave the track at every corner and on every bump.
That Toyota GTONE is the Grandfather of every prototype we've seen at LeMans in the Coupe era of P1 cars. The Audi's Peugots Porsches and Rebellions can all trace their aerodynamic design theory to that car. That car was so far ahead of its time it's not funny. If you love variety in design, then there is no greater 24 hour of Le Mans in history than this. The coupe prototypes and open cockpit counterparts both vying for the overall win, the vast difference in design theory, and of course the insane pacing of this race in 1999 was a precursor to the all out sprints we see today. THIS is quite possibly the most important 24 hour of Le Mans ever run as it set the course of automotive history in prototype racing for the next 20 years into the modern era we saw until this year. Even the LMDh car is a form of the same design ethos as the GTONE.
If you watch the Toyota TS010 and the Peugeot 905 Lmp from 91-92 seasons you will see that the body desing (longtail) apeared before the GT-ONE. In fact this GT-ONE (TS020) is a continuation of the TS010 desing pilosophy... Also if you want to go even further back, watch the first desing of the Porsche 917.

Yeah I must say it gets boring when it's American coverage and it's non stop Corvette / onboard / pitstops / interviews. I'm not saying all racing drivers are boring, man, compared to footballers they're positively fascinating, but can we please see the cars on the track?
Nice to hear fellow Connecticut Yankee Sam Posey's poetic and knowledgeable commentary. 23 years on now, 2022, stay strong and well Sam. Lime Rock forever. Creighton Demarest. 💚👍👌🏆🏁✌️🇺🇲 God speed Alain de Cadenet 7/2/2022 🏁💔
It’s a real shame Mercedes had their incidents as it could have been an absolutely awesome race between them Toyota and BMW over 24hrs. You had Toyota which were fastest, BMW who were the most economical and Mercedes who could just about keep up with the drivers absolutely wringing it’s neck.
It kind of bugs me if the copyright info is legitimately under FOX as SPEED, since this race aired when it was still SpeedVision. Before the days of FOX and NASCAR 24/7. The good days. I don't think FOX should get any credit for this glorious footage.
When they bought the network they assumed all ownership of archived content under the SpeedVision name. It's just how it works. they bought the network, they own the content.
It was purely down to the regulations at the time. The Pole lap in 1992 was around 3:21. The ACO dictate how fast they want the lap times effectively, so you can't compare like for like.

Finally, coverage of the race that made history!

Maybe some cars that years were TOO fast.

Damn the prototypes really had all the screen time back then.
Definitely helps when there's over 25 prototypes battling in the top classes

Posey was good and bad. A bit pretentious and pedantic, don't you agree?
My favorite Le Mans. Modern classic!
I'm excited I can look forward to such an extensive coverage in the following videos in this playlist, very enjoyable start so far
Thank you very much for the upload!!

My first time in Le Mans🙏
They didn't win, but I love the offensively loud and evil looking Panoz Spyders.
Audi: Pronto, Webber?
Mercedes: New Nokia who dis?
Audi: sBinnafly.
Thankfully, Hobbo is in the booth.
15:32 terminator
Audi already showing on its debut how to change the whole gearbox in superfast fashion.
the commentators made some mistakes
4:15 thats the only ford not a ferrari
4:21 thats a riley scott MARK 3 not 2
1:09:26 driver is Tsuchiya not Takaya
38:50 52:56 that CLR sounds so damn good
haha but mercedes go brrrrr flap woooooosh.
1:16:05 i wish i could buy the car just to pay someone to drive it back and forth in front of me
The Mercedes looks unstable as hell.
the best LM edition maybe ever!
15:58 Omg, haha. XD
Interesting to see that they describe 3.37.as a really fast lap time. By 2010 they were doing 19's. Aero I think.

What a class field! Too bad Benz could not manifest some competition to the end.

toyota dominated early even back in the 90s......
Toyota deserved that victory.
