The first world cup for Leo Messi as a starter in the national team and newly crowned best player in the world. The 22 year old didn’t score any goals in the tournament but was heavily involved in most of the goals Argentina scored. With Diego Maradona as coach, the Argentines steamrolled all opposition until they faced Germany in the quarters where they got humiliated with a 4-0 defeat, and Leo finished the tournament in tears.

@@khaloodyVEVO Both of you don't understand what went wrong. Maradona DID build the team to revolve around Messi. You guys think Maradona made some other person the main man? Like Higuain? Don't get it twisted. He DID make Messi the focal point. But the problem was that he played him wrong positionally. Maradona believed Messi to be another version of himself - a classic #10 playmaker from the middle of the field. And while Messi is indeed one of the all-time playmakers, he isn't the classic #10 that Maradona was. Messi is much, much more effective a bit more forward on the pitch as employed by Pep. Maradona failed to utilize Messi correctly

Tevez on the bench. Cambiasso must have been in the team and Zabaleta should have been proven, because Zanetti maybe, Even he was on fire after winning the Champions League, his time with Argentina had finished already. Ansaldi and Zabaleta were good options to try for the right wing back, which was a weakness in Sudáfrica.

I willl never forget i were so sad after they lost to germany 4-0 i went out alone and was riding around with my bike and listened to conte partiro by andrea bocelli when that happened I was only 17-18 years old and now when im 30 years old I finally got to see Leo win the world cup and when i think about it it still feels unreal to me it is just so perfect when you have watched every game in Leos career its so crazy its so perfect that its like a movie or something the movie about Leo Messi will surely be the best and most dramatic movie of all times!!!

El mejor Messi que vimos en un mundial, se gambeteaba a todo el equipo rival, y su corrida y explosividad eran increíbles, en el 2014 vimos un Messi con más definición pero no se tiraba tanto a gambetear todo el tiempo, prefería jugar más a tirar paredes.
En el 2018 vimos un Messi ya más lento, un Messi que elegía cuando correr y cuando solo dar un pase, y en el próximo mundial vamos a ver a un Messi ya lento, que no corre pero te gambetea y junta a 5 rivales a su alrededor para luego dar un pase y habilitar a un compañero, cómo van cambiando su manera de jugar de los crack a medida que pasa el tiempo en los mundiales

for those who don't watch him play they'll only see him with 1 assist in the whole tournament. What they don't see is most of argentina's goal came from Messi's work. he beats defenders, sets them up and lay off openings for his teammates to score. This is what the best player does

Para mi este es el mejor Messi de los mundiales que jugo, tenía velocidad, pase, definición. Pero maradona lo mato poniéndolo de mediapunta o de 10 , posición en la que messi no se desempeñaba, el estaba acostumbrado a jugar de falso 9 o extremo en el sistema de Guardiola. Maradona quizo hacerlo un maradona osea lo puso en la posición en la que el jugaba, pero messi en ese momento no tenía la visión de juego como ahora era más que nada un delantero explosivo que hacía goles, poco a poco fue evolucionando en esa posición de 10 hasta llegar a lo que es hoy, así que le tenemos que agradecer a Maradona que lo hizo debutar en esa posición, pero desperdicio quizá al mejor messi de todos.

This was the time I started watching football and following Messi, I was 10 years then, I wanted to watch cricket and my parents were like try watching the quarter finals of the world cup, Messi is brilliant, I was like who? And from then on I fell in love with Messi and his playing style and I watch almost every single match of his, the Germany match was really harsh, Messi was doing those amazing dribbles but nothing was working out for Argentina, this year, Argentina has to win!!

Messi était très bon dans cette coupe du monde quoiqu'il n'ait pas marqué de but. Je pense que l'Argentine aurait pu être championne du monde si elle n'avait pas un coach aussi inexpérimenté à sa tête que Maradona pars qu'en fait, en plus de Messi, il y avait Iguaine, Tevez, Arguero, Dimaria etc. Des joueurs de classe mondiale qui étaient très jeunes et qui étaient à leur meilleur niveau.
