    Picked up my 5th pair of the original Mont Blancs the other day on Amazon for $83 U.S. I’ll be running in the originals for as long as I can keep buying them.

    Ah good stuff… thought they would stiffen the heal collar a bit. Flexible carbon!

    They look good but I still think I will be going for the old version and save 100 euros

    Thanks for the first impressions. You allayed my concerns about the fit and I ended up picking up a pair.
    The rear pull tab was a bit weird at first, but if you hook your forefinger on it and use your thumb to pull the heel cup back, I’ve found it works really well.
    I’m interested in seeing your long term impressions. Thanks for the vids.

      Rear pull tab is only a design feature. It has ZERO functionality.

    I thought the carbon fibre plate in this shoes is supposedly to flex both up and down? maybe check your facts here...

      @TDMiller  6 місяців тому

      I just double checked to be sure. It's asymmetrical - so only flexible in one direction 😊 thanks for calling it out, though. Best to be certain about these things 😅

      @@TDMillerthat is interesting because one of the co-founders was interviewed at a trade show on the UA-cam channel called Believe In The Run and he said it was flexible both up and down so in both directions! It is interesting that you find they are not. Would you think about getting an official response from them to clarify? I would have thought there would be an advantage if the carbon plate flexed in both directions for a trail shoe for trail conformity

      You're right, he did say that! He also said, it's 30mm stack, but he could have been confused. I'll triple check with my contacts and see what they say! But the Carbitex Monoflex shoe plate is developed to only bend in one direction. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      I got another confirmation from an Altra sales rep: the plate only bends in one direction. Brian must have misspoken.

      @@TDMiller good to know! It would be great if you could make some sort of assessment whether the carbon plate in a trail shoe like this one functions to have a demonstrable speed performance benefit or whether the speed performance benefit is significantly less than how a carbon plate is employed in a road racing shoe platform, and that perhaps it is designed to provide some other type of benefits instead? Also, are there downsides to a carbon plated shoe for trail, such as this one from Altra or the one from Nike, compared to something like a Timp (which is too narrow for my foot so I don't really care about the Timp; though interestingly enough an Escalante Racer fits not problem) or Olympus 5/6? I imagine that if the plate is designed to be more conformable to trail in terms of its flexibility, then it is going to have a proportionally lesser performance benefit, at least as far as speed is concerned. You may wish to reflect on this for incorporation into your video for your next evaluation of the Mont Blanc Carbon.

    Also fixes the heel slip completely for me. It is harder and thus not great on asphalt but the carbon plate comes into its own when you run down long descents at speed. At. 5min/km it is already very noticeable and so I would guess for elites that run 3:30min/km downhill it could amount to a lot.

    Great video. Mont blanc is french and we don’t pronounce the “t” at end of “mont” and the “c” at the end of “blanc” 😊

      Merci! After 5 years of French in school I still butcher the language 😅 I cannot for the life of me speak French.

      Fun fact: I was raised in the Netherlands and chose French in school because "I would never need German anyway." Oh boy. 10 years later I moved to Germany 😅
