      What more credit should she have received?? She was very well paid for a supporting actress in a sitcom, she was getting $7k a week in 1958. She won Emmys and she was offered a spinoff with William but she refused. Desilu did film a pilot starring Vivian but CBS didn't buy it. She received top billing in Lucy's second sitcom and shared the screen equally with Lucy for the most part in the second series. During the 1970s Vivian was a spokesperson for Maxwell House coffee.. She got her credits when she was alive.

      You will notice that Lucy was the ONLY one who made jokes about his accent. You may have seen the Lilt commercial at the end of "Lucy and Superman" where they discuss the new "Squizz Com Leelt", and she ends up saying "It's a squizz com...I mean it's a SQUEEZE COMB!" during that ad!

      Unfortunate how he and Vivian Vance didn't get along, and Bill only cared about his lines and nothing else. But at least he was professional about it, and despite their strong dislike of each other, Vivian and Bill had AMAZING on- screen chemistry and I hope they did actually realize how much realism it brought to their "marriage." LOL. It was reported that when Viv heard about Bill's passing in 1966, she was at a restaurant with her husband and shouted CHAMPAGNE FOR EVERYBODY! Man, even if I hated my co-star that much, I would NEVER publicly celebrate his death!

      @Bussiness Name How come they stayed friends till Desi died; the spoke on the phone together several times a week and last conversation together before Desi died, she said, I love you, I love you, I love you - and he replied I love you two honey.

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs Рік тому +4

      @Bussiness Name It was not a loveless marriage, but it was difficult due to strains of the business side of Producing the show and running the studio. Unfortunately, Desi was an addict: sex, booze, and gambling. (His second wife Edith almost divorced him for the same reasons.) Yet, both Lucy and Desi expressed care, love and concern for each other - When Desi heard that Lucy was injured on the set of the movie with Bob Hope - he immediately ran over to see her, chewed out Bob for allowing this to happen - this was 1960 the most stressful time in their marriage, just before the divorce. When he sang "Forever Darling"at his daughter's 2nd, people felt he was singing it to Lucy as well, even tho both of them were in successful 2nd marriages.

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs Рік тому

      @Bussiness Name I think Lucy also had gratitude towards Ricky, he created a brilliant gem for the couple in I Love Lucy; and if it were not for her determination for Desi to play the husband on the show - where would he be? The were both incredible in the roles and wanted very much wanted children together and both co-parented brilliantly after the divorce. To me that is even more than "passionate"love; underneath a friendship of depth remained always.
      PS: Daughter Lucie Arnaz said when her mother remarried her father was devastated; and if you saw pictures of him at that time, he looked like the life was out of him. A deep sadness.

    The '58 T-birds were a major break from the original two-seaters from 1955-1957. At the time they were popular, but by the late 1960s the early Thunderbirds became the desirable models and the ones like this one shown here were rejected. In the long term, this has remained true.

    I wish they would have done more shows over the last 3 seasons. Only doing 13, with the cast and writers all at their prime, was a crime. Arnaz went to the hour format, shown 'now and then', because he said the 30 minute format had gone stale. However, the new format was not as good, or sharp, as the shorter episodes and the use of guest stars screwed up the casts involvement, often to the lack of face time. Arnaz was worn out doing his Ricky role and running Desilu Studios, but that was his doing. Something should have been done to work around his schedule. As a result, we're deprived and dozens of Lucy episodes. Too bad. This was a great series. Probably never to be topped.

      The celebrity guests proved a hit in Lucy's second sitcom on CBS.
      During The Lucy Show's last two seasons she had multiple movies and tv stars come on the show and the ratings went through the roof to the point the show became the second watched tv show in the USA for 1966-67 and 1967-68 seasons, she also won an Emmy at that time. Viv had walked away from the series due to contract negotiating not working in her favor and Lucy had decided that she couldn't do the series without Viv. During season 3 midway through, Lucy decided to continue and bring in a replacement such as Joan Blondell and Ann Sothern, only Ann seem to work but Ann wanted to be the co-star and receive top billing with Lucy, but Lucy rejected this and Ann was let go. The producers decided to give Gale Gordon a bigger responsibility as Lucy's boss to mimic the relationship Lucy and Desli had on I Love Lucy and to add a celebrity guest ever so often and the new format worked after a trial and error period..

    ..and I know WHY the scene at 2:49 was omitted in future rebroadcasts. Here's why: when the initial repeats of "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR" were telecast in the summer of 1962, the sponsor was General Foods...at that time, the makers of Post Cereals, whose commercials were often seen during the show. They frowned on references to any competitors [even in a fictional context, as in "Korny Krinkles"], and they certainly didn't want any scenes of people trying to avoid eating cereal, either.

      "Beat" Vivian Vance to a TV role??? It almost sounds like she was up for the same role, the way you put it. She was offered the lead in GUESTWARD HO! but froze up, not working with Lucy. So the role went to Joanne Dru.

      @@RayPointerChannel Well she did go on The Lucy Show but not to my knowledge before William Frawley. I felt glad for Frawley because they were both offered their own show together by Desi and Lucy produced by Desilu. Frawley was on board for it but Vivian Vance refused to work with him.

      Seventy years after ILL, people still refer to, "Lucy & Ethel" to describe a wacky idea or scheme. THEY left a mark on the culture, so much so that, "Lucy & Ethel" became code for best friends & crazy ideas & situations. [Edited to shorten & clarify my statements, b/c I tend to be verbose.]

      There are dolls of Lucy & ETHEL, & a postage stamp of Lucy & ETHEL, both from the famous candy factory scene. Frawley was WRITTEN OUT of My Three Sons. Vivian CHOSE to leave The Lucy Show.

      Frawley said yes to a spin-off, b/c ILL had revitalized his dead career. Vivian said no b/c she wasn't that desperate, even when offered a $50,000 bonus! It's not some achievement that Frawley broke his contract w/ Desilu to take the My Three Sons job. [Edited for accuracy.]

      The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show (aka The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) was on the air for 3 seasons after I Love Lucy ended in 1957. It wasn't on every week, just occasionally, so 13 1-hour episodes altogether for those 3 seasons. 1957-58: 5 shows, 1958-59: 5 shows, 1959-60: 3 shows. Also called "I Love Lucy: Seasons 7-9" on DVD.

      For some odd reason, automatic transmissions in the 50s all had " special " names. For example, even though it was the same transmission, the name of the automatic transmission in a Mercury was Merc-O-Matic.
      And it wasn't just transmissions that got names, other features...like air conditioning, got special names.
