Great John. Love the time lapse on these sort of things. You were lucky with the help for what you did there, I think I had to level out the ground and move two sheds by myself. Looking forward to the next video.
as someone who has laid lots of concrete, well worth paying the guys to do it, they make a much better job than a newbie, and you still have a back ;0)
Really enjoyed watching your video John. I'm in the process of starting to build my own workshop/shed/man cave. I noticed that the concrete company were in Northants. Is there any chance you could put up their details as i'm in Corby and would be interested in getting a quote. Thanks.
Long shot and I now I'm late to this party, but I'm thinking about putting a small home gym in the garden here and I will need a slightly raised concrete base too. May I ask how much it cost you to get a digger in + concrete base done?
As far as I recall it was about £100 for the digger for the day plus you would need a skip. concrete wa about £600 I think but a while ago now so I may be remembering wrong
Do you remember if the concrete guys said anything about you keeping the old slab of concrete? Wonder if they will move differently on the ground in time and affect your construction.
Hi I do rememebr speaking to them. They did say they may move separately. Only one small part of the shed actually sits on the old piece of concrete which should mean that the shed is not effected if it does move. They said if it does move it wont be very much
Having concreted all my life, on and off, it would have been much better as one continuous slab and it a pity you didn't put a damp membrane in and possibly insulation. The digger could have levelled the crusher run, if that's what you used and compacted it with his tracks. Anyway it's a good start.
Al's Hack Shack Thanks Al. It's a mine field and took me a lot of researching to fully understand it. Thomas says Hi and if you would like to see more of him I have a video where he makes a pen
Your shed looks great! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I built an 8x10 shed for my kids in my backyard earlier this year using plans I got from *WoodBlueprints. Com* Clear directions and an accurate materials list...It was great for a novice builder like myself!
Many thanks, I've been looking for "how to build a simple shed foundation" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Damkietor Nonpareil Dominion - (just google it ) ? It is a great one off product for building better sheds and woodworking without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got cool results with it.

John Clothier oh right, I've removed my planks and there's quite a lot of space that needs to be filled. Can I just fill it back in with soil? Thanks for your prompt reply
Maximum height of 2.5 metres in the case of a building only if you are within two metres of a boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse. If otherwise maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres and maximum overall height of four metres with a dual pitched roof or three metres for any other roof, so if you were not close to the house then yes you could of gone higher Oh well ..
Indeed, however that would have meant putting the shed right in the middle of the garden and for the sake of gaining half a meter of head height it wasnt worth it losing the whole garden. Unfortunately my garden is rather small so I was very limited
Originally I was going to use my single car garage as a workshop, but it's rather small and I have no idea where else to store the stuff we keep in there. So, I reckon a Garden woodwork shop is the way to go. I can see I will find this series invaluable. I wish we had access for one of the mini diggers as my garden is on a slop. Thanks for sharing John
Hi John,Thanks for sharing your build here. I’m thinking of using the same kind of concrete company, in fact may use that same company. Did you have to get a separate quote for the delivery and the laying/levelling? Their website only shows costs of supply. How deep did you have the concrete layer would you say? Thanks again.
Darren Lane to be honest it was a while ago now but I recall that I just rang them because I didn't know what I needed. As for depth the concrete was about 8 inches I believe

Thanks Paul. Yes I have been very lucky that people have helped me.
Awesome.. Love seeing build videos of new workshops! Looking good so far!
Thanks

From what I saw I think you are right!
Probably not necessary but I would have laid a bit of mesh rebar in the bottom, belt and braces 😁
The concrete guys said wasn’t necessary. I think there was something in the concrete
Deffo needs a rebar anyone telling u different is happy to cut corners to save u money
It will crack/peel within 5years at best without
hi John, what depth of concrete did you pour as a slab? cheers
Its about 6 to 8 inches

excellent video and good to see someone explain this. how much did you pay to get them do to the pouring and finishing?
Thanks! Sorry it was too long ago to remember now
Hi Were the guys that laid the concrete from the same company that supplied the concrete? Thanks
Hi. Yes they were. I was lucky they offered the service
Looking great! Envious of the space you will have when its finished! Hope you will be having an open house party when completed
Thanks Stephen. I'm sure it will soon feel too small. you are always welcome to come over.
Very enjoyable video John, coming on a treat mate. I was tired just watching! ;)
Looking forward to the next installment.

Hi John, love watching the process, and really informative about the planning regs etc. Also hi Thomas, thanks for being an awesome helper! :)

Nice video, would have been useful to understand the costs though.
Thanks. Costs ran away from me to be honest and I didn't really track them.
Great video, what equip did you use for timelapse?
Thanks. It was a gopro
Looking forward to this series john
Thanks. I hope you like it
Cool video. Good commentary too. How much did the base only Inc.the Labour set you back roughly
Thanks. As far as I remember it was about £1000 including the removal of the mud and the laying of the concrete
Nice start, good choice on getting in concreters!
I am very glad I did it! It cost a bit more but the hassle it saved it was well worth it!
John Clothier could I get a rough idea please on how much it cost for the concreters to do that area?

Thanks Bill. It's all done now. I just need to edit the timelapse.
how much did the concrete base cost?
Sorry I cant remember now. Was a few hundread
Great start John and some great background information too!
Thanks Ian
Once the base is made and you remove the wooden planks from the edges, what goes in the space where the planks were?
wah01234 I didn't remove them. They are still there and painted to match the shed
John Clothier oh right, I've removed my planks and there's quite a lot of space that needs to be filled. Can I just fill it back in with soil?
Thanks for your prompt reply
I see no reason not to use soil but I'm no expert. No probs
John Clothier great, Thank you John

Hello, Great video, what was the total cost of your build??
