- I give Cinestill 50D another go, this time in gorgeous Yosemite National Park. I definitely didn't shoot this right the first time, maybe I finally got it right?

Is anyone else using CineStill 50D a lot? I’d love to hear your thoughts on best practices and situations that lend itself to making this film really shine!
Loved the shots!
Love this man. I miss the west coast and especially Yosemite! I would love to get back there soon. Glad you were able to get away for a bit.
Yeah man it was a single day of true happiness. Need to go back already.
You're too cute. Coffee! More coffee! 😄 And landscapes! Yosemite must be earth's magical place! Wonderful shots, beautiful light! So happy, you've shared these!
Ahh thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Ooooo baby. This is what showing up early feels like.
You win!
Amazing shots and brilliant video! Definitely has me wanting to try out Cinestill 50D
aw thanks! im really glad you enjoyed it! just make sure to give that 50D lots of light
Absolutely loüve it mate.
Oi
The music choice is awesome! Nice shots man! I'm gonna pull the trigger on some 50Ds.
Thanks my dude! And do it. It LOVES light so go outside and get some sweet shots. Then show me.
Nice video, I like the look of the Cinestill photos of Yosemite. The video brings back nice memories, I visited shortly Yosemite in 2005, great place.
I wish I could live there
@@ThePhotoDept Totally agree!
Your Rolleiflex isn't a 3.5F model. It's an earlier Automat version. You can tell because it takes Bay 1 filters and has a Tessar lens. Also the shutter lock is a catch that swings across like a latch. The 3.5F takes larger Bay 2 filters, has either a Planar or Xenotar lens and has a different shutter lock and self timer amongst other notable differences.
NICE. thank you so much for this info. I haven’t been able to find much at all about this specific camera so that is so helpful. You rule.
Bro I am loving these shots, keep it the frik up.
hey thank you!!!
@@ThePhotoDept Of course! always look forward to your videos
Pretty awesome video !
Thank you!
Nice! That first shot is superb!
I think you're right about that film needing a crap ton of light. It always ends up looking really bland when I use it in the cold, dark Norwegian winter/fall/spring/most of the year. It does really well with push processing, though. Pushing one or two stops gives it some extra punch. Works well with flash too, speaking of crap ton of light :-)
thanks friend! I agree, I gotta try pushing it a bit and see how it looks.
I saw one video of a guy shooting 50D at 400, developed at a lab normally (no pushing). And it looks very good, even better underexposed than overexposed.
Damn, gonna have to try that.
Hey thank you for this video. One question: what colour profile do you use to scan cinestill films?
I scan as flat as possible and add contrast in post. Either that or I’ll scan as a negative and use negative lab pro to convert.
Cool video. As a “Texan” I’m trying to get in the Bay Area for a day 😃
when its safer, you must.
When did you arrive in Yosemite? During the wildfires - was there any smoke? Had entry tickets for Sept 1st but passed due to wildfire fears 😕
it was right before the fires, so we luckily didnt have any issues.
What's up my man? I dig yosemite, did you drive back to the Bay area in the same day? I actually did a review a couple years ago on my channel comparing the Rollie cord to the Rollie flex.
Yeah we did! Just a quick little day trip. It was really fun. I’m gonna have to check your video out!
Does CineStill require any filters or special processing from the lab?
Great question! CineStill requires no special processing, just normal C41 like any other color negative film. If you’re shooting 800T in daylight, it’s a good idea do use an 85 filter to balance the blue.
? I think I saw 3 shots on 50D and the rest of the stills were portra 160; is that right?
No, you saw twelve 6x6 shots of the 50D, then I searched to Portra 160. I labeled the Portra photos so you can see. The colors are vastly different as well.
@@ThePhotoDept looked again with an ad-blocker on - I counted 8 and ... meh. I guess I missed the point or was expecting something else
Thanks for the reply.
The only info I have on that camera is that it is expensive. I recently got a Minolta Autocord which I guess you could call a poor man's version of the Rollei.
Those Autocords are amazing though.
Was this before all the fires?
probably the week before.
I need to get my butt to yosemiteeee. Did you guys make a reservation??
Do it! Yes! We had to buy a day pass ahead of time.
I’ll be the contrarian, I liked the photos, but not a fan of the emulsion. The halation in the highlights just sets me off (you can really see it in the car shot 4:29). I shot one roll 6x7 and got similar results to yours. Now once you switched over to Portra160... 👍😀
i think the porta160, while nice, looks smeary and less vibrant in comparison. I should have overexposed it anyway, but i dunno, I really love the emulsion of 50D. If the halation bugs you, you can simply neutralize it easily in post. However, taste is subjective so I can't fault you there. I personally barely notice it.
i whisper-yelled "oh my god. i want to paint this," @ 5:02
DO IT
@@ThePhotoDept not good enough yet. NEED PRACTICE FIRST
Have thou tried overexposing cinestill 50d?
Pray thee, I have not yet exsposeth yonder film beyond rated box speed, my lord.
