- Welcome back - today I will take you through the history of the second reincarnation of the MGM Grand.
On the 18th of December 1993 - the second reincarnation of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino opened at 3799 on the South Las Vegas Boulevard.
Back in the 90s Vegas wanted to attract families into their resorts. Arguably MGM Grand spearheaded this drive and produced a World Class casino with a family friendly feel.
I mention in the video that I have made another episode about the first MGM Grand - known today as Bally's. The link to this video is below.

Stayed there in the 90s and I think we were given the smallest room in the place, with a view of a ventilator from the window. Hardly any daylight coming in the window. But we didn't spend much time in the room, lol
I worked at the theme park in the 90's. It made me so sad to see it all go away. I can still close my eyes and see it all. So many memories!
That must have been cool. I had no clue that used to be there. What a great spot
This casino used to have random animatronics scattered throughout the gaming floor. I am not sure what they were all supposed to be. Some were Oz inspired, other may have been from other films. I don’t entirely recall, but they were definitely there!
I very accurate history of the MGM Resorts history. Thanks for a walk down memory lane. The place I worked at for my whole career, from day one.
I am so glad you mentioned the walking through the lions mouth as being bad luck. I was told about this many years ago. I was informed of this about the same time as that stupid Asian casino went tits up on the north end of the strip. I think it was called The Lucky Dragon.
Very accurate
We stayed at the MGM : When we walked through the entrance we could see huge lineups at the reception desk which housed at least 12 stations to check in. My husband had a bright idea to go to the public telephone box and check in. We managed to skip the long wait and we were in our room within 30 minutes. We loved the hotel but we were disappointed that the room did not have any tea / coffee facilities.
Had a great time at the old theme park. Good memories.
Looked like a lot of fun!
Thanks for linking the history of Bally's video you made, that video has the shots of the casino alive and well before the fire that I wanted to see.
I have been going to Las Vegas for about 22 years! Witht he exception of 2 trips. I have stayed at the MGM Grand everytime. I think it is the best over all location and hotel on the strip. You are close to the center or you can stay right there and have everything you ever wanted to do in 4 to 5 days. I am going back this November and looking forward to relaxing and having fun! They have great service and great over all options for food, fun and relaxing. The only thing they may want to concider in the future is more shopping. But, for entertainment it is the best place.
I hope you had a great time on your trip! Sounds like they are doing a great job!
Omg just found your channel great work
Thank you so much!
AHHHHHHH YOURE BACK!!! your videos are incredible I missed them
Thank you so much! It’s great to be back!
Back when Vegas was actually fun. I miss that. Ironically, MGM Resorts has completely destroyed and de-themed everything that was cool or unique.
Miss the park
You’re back! Missed you guys!
Thank you! It’s been a while - happy to be back!
Wow finnaly back :)
At last 😄
Stayed once. Place is huge!
I walked the emerald city as a kid. but the show was never running so I would run to the door and knock, hoping I would piss off that bell guy.
My wife and I went to Vegas for the first time in July 2022. We stayed in a Grand King room at the MGM Grand. What an amazing hotel that was! I would go back in a heartbeat.
Just binge watched your videos and didn’t even realize it. So, yeah
I’m a fan.
Can’t wait to learn more about Vegas hotels.
That's so kind, thank you! Pleased you enjoyed them. More to come!
I saw EFX when Rick Springfield was the headliner. We arrived to the theater and saw fliers posted that Rick wasn’t in the show that evening. Also I was a kid and I didn’t know who Rick Springfield was.
Great video!
Thank you!
So glad to see another video from you!
I have very faint memories of going to MGM Grand Adventure as a kid, and even in more recent years I thought there was still a yellow brick road in the hotel!
In 2019, I was able to treat myself to a special dinner at the Maison Joel Robuchon. Great food and a lovely experience. Even people wary of "fancy food" will find plenty to enjoy on the bread and dessert carts, and the Maison also gives you a complimentary lemon pound cake after your meal. Excellent and friendly service too. Definitely research the menus and dress code before you go.
Thank you! Great to be back!
That must have been so cool to experience Grand Adventures first hand looked like a really fun place.
Joel Robuchon looks like a stunning restaurant! Thanks for the recommendation - I am absolutely a bread and dessert fan but have a soft spot for fancy food so it sounds perfect for me! Pleased you had such a great experience!
@@AmusementTourist forgot to add that sometimes the restaurant also gives their signature Robuchon mashed potatoes mid meal. I'm far from a mashed potatoes fan, but this dish was so light and airy and unique. Afterward, I saw chefs on cooking shows try to replicate this dish, so I guess it has a good reputation!
That sounds so good! I have to agree - not the biggest fan of mash but when it is done properly 😍 just wow! You know it’s good when it has that kind of reputation!
Hey, keep it up. You just started a year ago? That’s great. Keep it up
Just found your channel, love vegas history, happy to see there was more! I plan to watch everything tonight and look forward to more. Your voice is great btw.
Thank you so much - that is very kind! Enjoy! 😊
Amazing presentation. I am OZ.
great tour its been years since i was there
Glad you enjoyed it! 😄
I visited MGM Grand Las Vegas in 2011 and in 2016 to enjoy a Britney Spears, David Copperfield and cirque du Soleil show.
The Theme park made a lot of money, they closed it because they wanted to change their brand. Conventions were bringing in millions and Las Vegas realized that’s where the real money is. Regular Tourists are 2nd class and 2nd priorities.
Your videos are amazing. I was afraid you'd stopped posting. Please don't stop! I am fascinated by Vegas casino history!
That’s so kind! Thank you! I’ve got many more in the pipeline don’t you worry 😄

You forgot the mgm mansions
Why on earth did they do away with all those amazing attractions? I'd give anything to see it like that, i go in there on a weekly basis and its such a boring hotel now
Absolutely ridiculous to change the Lion front! They should have never done that. Mandalay Bay has the largest Convention area.

Vegas has lost all of its magic, all the the theme hotels have gotten rid of everything that made them awesome in the first place, mgm grand, luxor, treasure island, the volcano at mirage, all gone. Its no longer an affordable place either, its aimed purely at the elite class and priced way to high for anyone else
they changed it because the Chinese won't walk through the mouth of a lion so they caved they did not want to lose there business.
😝 ᵖʳᵒᵐᵒˢᵐ
Also the David Copperfield show was one of the worst things I've EVER SEEN!!!!
Oh no 🙈😂 won’t be rushing to see that then!
