Christian band that's been around since 1996, and still going today. 11 albums to date, the most recent released in 2022. Lineup has been constant since guitarist Seth Morrison joined in 2011. Lead singer/ bassist John Cooper is the only original member. John's wife Korey(rhythm guitar/keyboards) came on board in '99. Drummer Jen Ledger is from England., but became an American citizen in 2021. John was the only vocalist until she joined in 2008 ,when Lori Peters retired. To hear her voice, check out songs like "Awake and Alive", "Hero", and "Feel Invincible".

Skillet is one of Christian music’s best kept secrets. Not preachy in their lyrics and hook you in with their sound. This song is about the duality of being a Christian. You feel like you aren’t worthy due to your past or your thoughts, but you are saved from them. Title line comes from John Cooper’s love of superheroes. When Dr Banner gets injected with radiation that turns him into the Hulk, he says I feel like a monster.

That's because the band is Christian but their music is not.
Skillet has never said their music was meant to be taken as Christian gospel. People are just putting that on them from their own opinions.

If you iked this song then I highly reconmend listening to Feel Invisible, Not Goona Die, Sick of It, Out Of Hell, Burn it Down, Hero, Whisper in the Dark, Rebirthing, Psycho in my Head and Legendary. They're all really good songs by Skillet (the best in my oppinion)
Jen Ledger is my 2nd all time favorite singing drummer. She has her own band as well. When they tour at the same time, she does double duty unless they have a gig on the same night. If that happens, Lacey Sturm from Flyleaf sits in for her vocals. Skillet is a banger of a group, and worth the dive.
Ya Jen has even said a lot of her singing influence is from Lacey, you can def hear it. Two of the best female rock singers going.
Skillet’s Biggest Song. The Lead Singer Jon Cooper is married to the Rhythm Guitarist Korey Cooper. You should check out the Songs “Hero” or “Awake & Alive” who feature Jon Cooper singing with the Drummer Jen Ledger. Their voices blend so well together
Awake and Alive is best seen live. That way you can appreciate Jonathan Chu on the violin and Tate Olsen on the cello.
I believe they call that harmonizing.
After my brothers discovered this band and song, I could not stand hearing this song on repeat because this was the only song they knew. I think Skillet is an underrated band as a whole and you should definitely check out more of them❤

Lead singer John Cooper has been known to say that Skillet is the biggest people have never heard of, LOL. This song was number 1 on Bilboard's Rock charts and #4 on the Hot 100 if I remember correctly, so huge hit for them. Songs I really like from them would be Whispers in the Dark, Awake and Alive, and Not Gonna Die (particularly if you can find the version with the intro - the album has a longer introduction to the song that's part of the previous track that's cut out of the music video, but it adds some serious epicness.)

Skillet is great. I've seen them 2 or 3 x and always a great time.
I love the heavy distortion in the guitars and the growly vocals. Not usually a big fan of vocal fry or growl when it’s over used in a song but this was well done.
I know the drummer is phenomenal from other songs.
This song got a ton of airplay on radio and satellite when it came out and is still on my playlist.
It's a genre called industrial rock just if you want to look for similar music.
The frontman is John Cooper his wife is the lady guitarist Kori.

Great Christian band and are awesome live. The lead singer bass player is married to the rhythm guitar player. The drummer sings as well.

Enjoy your journey into Skillet. After a friend introduced me to them a year or so ago, they've quickly become one of my favorite bands. They certainly have 'a sound' like many bands do, but also a wide variety of styles. My favorite is the symphonic metal or epic/anthem type songs.

If you liked this then you REALLY need to listen to their songs Legendary (was once the theme for WWE so you know it rocks), Not Gonna Die, Back to Life, Finish Line, Ignite, Standing in the Storm, Whispers in the Dark, Forever or the End (for a ballad between John and Jen)....so many good ones.
They're a band of Christians that relies on having general messages of hope vs name dropping God and trying to convert, typically tour with non-Christian bands.
Jen (drums/vocals) has a side project called Ledger. John (bass/vocals) and Seth (guitar) have one called Fight the Fury, a little harder than typical Skillet.
If I'm not mistaken there's a few songs they made that got featured in the WWE, especially the games.

Skillet is a solid band,sadly one of those bands where you need to listen back on theyr songs to go "oh,this would be a cool request for people unaware of them". I guess you can call them underrated in a way,although popular at the same time.
